Extremely helpful staff for our first time in a ryokan. Great location for a break from busier areas of Japan. The building was amazing: it wasn't just overlooking the river, it was built right alongside it with great views but while maintaining privacy.

This was a retreat and a family treat in the best sense of the word. Although located on a main road out of Hakone, once you walk through those sliding front doors, it's like you've entered an older quieter time. This is a lovely heritage building oozing with character - the Shinkuju Park Hyatt this is not (and I mean... More

This was the mid-point of our 9 day trip around Japan and it was the perfect way to recharge and just enjoy being in the moment. At the entrance you are asked to remove your shoes and use one of the many slippers they have set out. A quick tour of the ryokan to show us the onsen (hot baths)... More

Now this is why we booked a ryokan. I know that this may sound cliché or crap but I really wanted to try staying at a traditional ryokan and have a ryokan experience alongside an onsen. Though i have nothing to compare it to in terms of how good it is as a traditional ryokan i can say it was... More

We found this place to be really great value for money. The rooms were beautiful and the service very accommodating. The standout was the food which was exceptional and very reasonably priced. This was the highlight of our second trip to Japan.

Having just returned from a weekend here we thought it best to do our review while the experience is fresh in our minds! This was a truly traditional experience and we savoured that, however traditional comes at a cost of almost $1000 for 2 nights. We did not however this included breakfast and dinner. Pros - lovely staff, who go... More

This was a great experience and I would recommend anyone stay at a ryokan when visiting Japan. I had my luggage delivered to the ryokan from the Hakone Yamoto train station so, it was an easy walk to the inn. My room was beautiful and had a river view. It was one of the most relaxing, 'unplugged' types of places... More

Really beautiful old ryokan, enjoyed my stay immensely. Rooms are comfortable and quiet, charmingly shabby. The onsen was great as well! We ordered dinner and breakfast in the room, and both meals were of the highest quality. The number of courses was astounding - after a long day travelling from Tokyo and doing the Hakone loop, we were starved, and... More

This was by far the most unique and wonderful experience we had in Japan. We chose this ryokan because we wanted an authentic experience in a beautiful setting that wasn't as expensive as other places I had been looking at. Including dinner, breakfast, and the sake we ordered at dinner, our total stay cost us $375 which I thought was... More

First time in a real traditional ryokan, it's a pleasure to discover step by step that world. The hosts are really kind and can speak English (thanks to れいみ for the time she takes to answer all my questions), and the food really good (moreover, I asked lately for a vegetarian menu and they did their best to get me...
