We stayed here on recommendation from a friend and wasn't disappointed. The ryokan is very authentic and rooms very spacious. We used the private onsen and although small it was good to be together (we didn't have another private onsen throughout the next 6 cities we traveled to in Japan). The meal is amazing and served in your room as... More

Not far from Onawara, just need to find the right bus. It'll let you off across the bridge after 10 minutes and some 23 stops. This seems to be a village. Quiet, a step back in time. Amazing plank flooring. Very clean, but with any 100 year old buildings you can see wear. If you want wabi-sabi...or gracefully wearing, come.... More

We had a fantastic stay at this classic Ryokan. The building, rooms and atmosphere allow you to step back in time and enjoy the Japanese Ryokan experience at its best. The meals were sublime, authentic and gorgeously presented. Staff was extremely kind. I strongly recommend this Ryokan.

We stayed here for one night to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan and it was lovely. The rooms are large and spacious, very clean. Service and hospitality was excellent. We used the private onsen which was nice. Food was served to our room for dinner and breakfast and was all lovely (western breakfast as fake bacon/sausage as you often get... More

It's worth his price. Once inside you enter a complete different world. The ryokan is made from wood and very old. It's a genuine Japanese experience and they go all the way. It's so quiet and relaxing. Due to his location next to the river, the view and sound of the running water was great . Walking distance from the... More

This was the second Ryokan we stayed in and it was fantastic! The staff was helpful and friendly, the rooms are lovely (ours had a balcony looking out over the water. The food is delicious and the futon beds are very comfortable. Hakone is a beautiful town and staying here makes it even better!

I really enjoyed my stay here. Location is very easy to get to from Hakone station or Odowara station by bus. Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Requested a room with a river view when booking as was recommended by other reviews, very happy with the room. Overall it was good value for money and a great experience.

Stayed here for one night in a room with a river view. Service: perfect. Our hostess (please excuse if the wrong term...) could not have been more accommodating nor helpful and even offered to take photographs as we left outside the entrance. Her English was good and she explained everything we needed to know. Onsen: clean but with some algae... More

Extremely helpful staff for our first time in a ryokan. Great location for a break from busier areas of Japan. The building was amazing: it wasn't just overlooking the river, it was built right alongside it with great views but while maintaining privacy.

This was a retreat and a family treat in the best sense of the word. Although located on a main road out of Hakone, once you walk through those sliding front doors, it's like you've entered an older quieter time. This is a lovely heritage building oozing with character - the Shinkuju Park Hyatt this is not (and I mean... More
