The first ryokan that we've stayed in, so we have nothing to compare it with directly. The character of the place is somewhere between a "bed and breakfast" and hostel, so if you're looking for a hotel experience then this is not for you, but if you want to experience Japanese style rooms with tatami floor and futons, plus a... More

We asked for and got a really nice room (#6 or 7 I think) that was spacious with a window looking out on green woods. We also liked the various baths including the one you can reserve for coed use outside - and inside. The location is a bit off the beaten track but we liked that and there's easy... More

This place is perfect for an onsen gateway from Tokyo. Compared to other hotels in the area it's much cheaper but they have a small onsen pool you can book for your family or friends to enjoy a private bath. The atmosphere is truly Japanese, I can't wait to visit again.

OK I know people are going to hate on me but we really did not enjoy our stay here. The owner and staff are very nice people, sleeping in futons on the tatami is very "Japanese" and the outdoor hot spring was a memorable experience. However, the place is in serious need of an upgrade. One shower shared with 16... More

Me and my hubby went. We were looking for an onsen where it would be private and also both of us can go at the same time. This was perfect. We spent an hour at the onsen. We felt amazing and so relaxed after. And the staff there was really polite and sweet!

We spent 2 nights at Hakone Guest House during the end of May. We enjoyed a pleasant family atmosphere during our stay, the room was clean and confortable, and we had the occasion to sleep in the traditional futon bed and wear the yukata. We also loved the open air onsen with sulfurous thermal water , while a smaller one... More

This place is reasonably cheap although they seem to add various taxes and charges on arrival that make it feel less so. There is a very basic breakfast that can also be bought at around 800 Yen per person, which is like an old-fashioned motel breakfast, white bread to toast, margarine and some fruit and yoghurt. Terrible coffee as well.... More

We stayed here two nights and would definitely recommend it. Great location for exploring the Hakone region. Run by a lovely family who go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. On arrival they helped us to plan our sight seeing for the next two days. Private onsens are great for those who aren't quite ready for the... More

This place was a great mix of tradition and comfort. Probably the most well equipped 'Hostel' I have ever stayed in, really good communal facilities for cooking/relaxing. The rooms were great too, ours was pretty spacious and the futons really were comfortable to sleep on with an efficient A/C system. It really had the functionality of a good hotel with... More
