I really wanted to love this place. The standard rooms are 1300 US and u must factor in around 300 For a couple to travel there from Tokyo. This is nearly 2000 Australian dollars per night. Because it was a special trip, I convinced myself it would be worth travelling all the way from Tokyo to gora and paying the...

Love this Ryokan! Phenomenal staff. 9 decorated courses of Japanese for dinner. Relaxing Onsen. Great views of the hills & Autumn leaves. 5 minute walk to catch the cable car to the Mt Fuji lookout. Easy access from Tokyo on the train.

There is no question that Gora Kadan is one of the best. As you probably read that it use to belongs to the royals, the location, the staff and the food is top notch and worth the money. Only one advice, don't book the revitalizing body and facial 90 mins. The lady just put oil on my legs with no...

The Gora Kadan is a tradional Japanese hotel. Great service and the hotel is located perfectly in Hakone a luxury town south of Tokyo. The pricing is however too expensive for what you get. This is a pity as the hotel is offering a wonderful experience. Just note that the Fuji cannot be seen from the hotel. You have to...

For those wishing to experience traditional Japanese hospitality, this is the ryokan to seek out. The staff are gracious and welcoming (even when we arrived long before checkin, one of the staff suggested a spectacular excursion for us that would take two to three hours, and when we returned we were ushered to our room with its tatami mats and...

Staying at Gora Kadan is a true experience and unlike anywhere we have ever stayed before. Our room was beautiful, the building was beautiful, the staff were friendly but overall I am not sure that I would want to stay here again. Our room attendant was lovely and she carefully showed us how to wear the pretty yukatas which had...

A beautiful modern traditional Japanese inn. Traditional and modern may be oxymorons, but they describe Gora Kadan to a tee. The room is actually a suite, a sitting area looking out on a Zen garden, some with tubs in them, a tatami room with low table and chairs for meals, a sleeping room with futons, and a bathroom with big...

Gora Kadan was an absolutely incredible experience not only the place was absolutely gorgeous, simple yet calm and inviting but the primary reason why my wife and I felt in love with Hakone is our Japanese Aunty, Yumi. We had a hostess dedicated to us that explained everything from how to tie up our kimonos to how to drink our...

Dressing up in kimonos supplied by the hotel, sleeping on the floor in traditional Japanese style and enjoying the peace and tranquility of this wonderful place. The many courses taster meal is pretty challenging to a western palette and really wouldn't recommend it for children who really struggled to eat the food but the service was amazing and, if you...

I was a bit skeptical that this place would live up to the hype. My husband and I have stayed in some of the most luxurious hotels around the world, and even our private bungalow in the Maldives wasn't as expensive at Gora Kadan. But from the moment we arrived I was blown away by this magical place and the...
