We stayed at Hakone Airu in early November 2019 after a week in Tokyo. Everything, from check-in to check-out was amazing. We were a few hours early for check-in and were able to drop our bags at the desk so we could explore the area (Tamadareno falls are worth the walk). After our walk we checked in and enjoyed a welcome drink before relaxing in our room and our very first onsen. In the evening we enjoyed the kaiseki dinner with shabu shabu course in a private dining room. We ate lots of dishes that we never had before and loved the beef shabu shabu. After that we spent some time at the bar. It's not only beautiful but fun as well. We joked around with the bartender and enjoyed some of his great whisky recommendation. All in all this was one of the highlights of our month in Japan. The location was beautiful, the rooms were luxurious and spacious after Tokyo. A special thanks to the staff for being very accomodating with adjusting the meal for my pregnant wife who could not eat raw fish, and thanks for the bartender that evening for making a great day just a bit more special. We enjoyed it so much that we're already planning to go back in 2021!

Thank you for staying at our hotel. We are very impressed with your best review. Did you succeed in giving birth to your baby? Japan is fighting Corona. Our hotel has a private hot spring in every room. Meals are served in a private dining room. Therefore, we rarely come into contact with other customers. You can rest assured. We are waiting for your return visit. Please come back to Hakone. Thank you.

Great place, rooms very authentic Japanese / Balinese mix. loved the onsen which was perfect for relaxation. We had a room on level 3 which was very clean and with everything you need, futon was laid out at night time while we ate dinner, and the kimono to wear to dinner was such a great touch, made for such an awesome experience. Food, both dinner and breakfast (we chose western breakfast) was devine, great flavours and such fun to try something different. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend, and Hakone itself is such a worthwhile trip.

Thank you for staying at our hotel. I would be glad if you were relaxing at our hotel. Our hotel has a mix of Balinese and Japanese style. All rooms have private hot springs. (Everything is Mountainview.) We recommend rooms on higher floors. Because you can have a beautiful view of the mountains. If you need a window in the open-air bath, book a room on the second floor. (Some rooms have windows.) Experience Japanese hospitality with yukata and meals. Hakone has different pleasures depending on the season. We are waiting for your revisit. Thank you.

Enjoyed two nights here in a superior room with open air bath and mountain view with dinner included. It was a very relaxing experience. Our Japanese style room with tatami matting and futons had everything we needed, including a fridge, a safe and a wide range of toiletries etc. When I was booking this I was a little confused about the photos but basically your room has sliding doors onto a little private terrace with a settee and a lounger chair. It is all under cover with just the outside open with the mountain view. Your private onsen is on this terrace. You can also get to it through a room with two sinks which leads onto a separate shower area with a glass door onto the terrace. It was lovely to relax in the private onsen which was lovely and hot and to have the mountain view. Great after a busy day but also fun at night and when it was raining. There was even some early blossom to look at. The terrace area was nice to cool down afterwards. Towelling bathrobes are provided. You also have a yukata each, Japanese pyjamas and socks provided. Most people eat their meals in these. Also very relaxing not having to dress up for dinner. Meals are served in your own private dining room. The food was excellent. The best we have had so far in a ryokan. There is plenty of it. Lots of small dishes. Japanese Breakfast is the same. More than you can eat! We found the whole experience very relaxing. You can even have relaxing music playing in your room. As other reviewers have said it is not cheap and it is quite regimented. Your meals are at a set time and you are expected to be on time but that is just how things work in a ryokan. If you go with it you get a small insight into traditional Japanese culture and it’s fun not quite knowing what you are going to be eating. Hakone Yamuto is also a nice place. Although you need to get the bus or a taxi to get to the hotel with your luggage, after that you can easily walk the 10 minutes or so into the town where there are lots of shops selling local delicacies. Two nights is about right. Doing the Hakone loop takes about a day. in our case it was pouring with rain so we didn’t see Mount Fuji, but still a fun day out. I would definitely recommend staying at Hakone Airu.

Thanks for staying and reviewing at our hotel. We are glad to be honest with your review. Our hotel has been in its third year of opening. As you say, a private hot spring is the best recommendation in the hotel. All rooms have private hot springs and you can enjoy the mountain view. It is also possible to relax with a drink on the terrace. The shower booth has glass so it is not cold in winter. All hot springs are original natural hot springs. Our hot springs have no smell or color. (Type is simple hot spring) It warms the whole body for a long time. Children can take a bath with peace of mind. Dinner is served with Japanese kaiseki. Kaiseki is a traditional Japanese method of eating with sake. You have about 10 courses to eat in one to one and a half hours. And you can relax on the tatami with yukata and pajamas. The hotel is close to Hakone Yumoto Station. However, it is strongly recommended that you come by bus or taxi as there are steep slopes. The way back is downhill, so please enjoy shopping and walking along the shopping street. It takes about 6-7 hours to go around Hakone. We recommend leaving your luggage at the hotel early in the morning and sightseeing. There are many tourist attractions such as lakes and museums etc. And Hakone has different pleasures depending on the season. Please come to Hakone again. We are waiting for your revisit. Thank you very much.

This hotel is amazing, best I have ever stayed in. Wanted to have a traditional ryokan experience and was not disappointed. The staff are welcoming from the moment you arrive. Rooms are great with a view of the mountain the river, we booked a room with the personal onsen which was very relaxing. Food was amazing, not sure what half of it was but all tasted great and was different everyday, breakfast was also great with a choice of Japanese or English. The bar downstairs has a lot of choice and the staff were again very friendly, Shiro was especially helpful with advising us where to go and helping with travel plans (even though there was a little bit of a language barrier, but nothing Google can't over come) would go back again if I could. 100% recommend this hotel!

Thank you for staying at our hotel. All of our hotels have a private Mountainview hot spring. The view is beautiful and very popular. We also recommend that hot spring. The aquarium bar has beautiful tropical fish and coral reefs. Bar masters are not good at English, but will strive to communicate with guests.Have a good time. Our hotel has a slightly different structure than traditional Japanese-style inns. Recommended for those who want to enjoy the Bali resort atmosphere. Please come to Hakone again. Thank you very much.

We stayed for two days between stays in Tokyo and Kyoto, and it was an amazing experience. It is a Japanese inn, be prepared for a very traditional experience and realize you are going to be in a room with tatami mats and a futon, and you will not wear your shoes after you walk in the from door, and a kimono to meals. The hotel did a masterful job of accommodating our dietary restrictions (kudos to our wonderful travel agent, Kim Witherspoon of Connoisseur Travel in DC for making sure that happened) . The service was amazing - Subin Guring and Sandess took spectacular care of us, and both insured our visit met everyone of our expectations. The food was interesting and delicious, and the onsen on our balcony was an incredible experience. There was a poster who raised on issue about being on time to dinner. When the ryokan prepares a 12 course meal and the pacing to present it to maximum effect, asking guests to be at dinner at the time to guests selected does not seem to me to an imposition. The front desk helped us with bus information for some touring and they volunteered to drive us to the train station in Odawara for the bullet train to Kyoto. If you have any interest in a traditional Japanese experience, this ryokan is not to be missed.

Thanks for staying and reviewing at our hotel. Most of our hotels are tatami. Tatami can be relaxed without shoes. Yukata is also available. You can feel Japanese style. Meals are provided with Japanese kaiseki. They offer about 10 courses in 1 hour to 1.5 hours. You can enjoy the look and taste slowly. Our staff strives to explain what the dish is. Ask anything if you have any questions. We want our guests to relax and enjoy our hotel. On December 16, it celebrated its 3rd anniversary. We will try to provide better service. Please come to Hakone again. Thank you.
