We booked this hotel for its location and because, on it website, it looked to have beautiful gardens and seemed a perfect place to relax after 3 hectic days in Tokyo. As many reviewers have said, the hotel is now very outdated and, you might even say, run down. We had paid for a garden view suite, which was not... More

We were on our honeymoon and we were horribly shocked and disappointed by this hotel. The room was very small with two separate beds of small size with very old and dirty bed covers. The sheets when opened had black hairs from other guests. There were many bugs which we killed and the sheets and walls had squashed bugs from... More

We were recommended to stay at this hotel by a local travel agent and was very disappointed with the rooms. The rooms are very old and outdated but the view is great. You will get free vouchers to the Yunessun which is worth visiting if you have kids (and its free!). Reception Staff's english is somewhat limited but restaurant staff... More

Instead of going a Tokyo morning tour, we decided to go for a one day Hakone hot spring tour. The tour includes the famous hot spring, pirate ship rude and rope way plus this great buffet. There are so many dishes including all well known Japanese foods. It has a fresh BBQ seafood and Italian pasta with the best cheese... More

Location: We arrived by bus. As I remember it, it didn't take more than an hour from Gotemba premium outlet. There was also a mart nearby. Check in: quick enough. Service: polite, as expected. Room (size, cleanliness): The size was big enough for a Japanese hotel room, however our room felt old and a bit spooky. We slept with all... More

The room was really dated, not very clean, the bathroom looked like something out of the dark ages. The plastic bath had been cracked and repaired, big step up into the bathroom, quite dangerous. It all worked, but I really expected something a bit better. Breakfast was appalling, too many people, too few tables, food area very cramped. The Japanese... More

Staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Room was great, beautiful gardens with streams and ponds surrounding the hotel. Some parts of the hotel seemed dated, but our floor was very nice.

The main areas of the hotel are lovely ...with great views and a garden setting. The bedrooms are small and a bit tired and dated...in particular the bathrooms are crying out for attention. Wifi in the hotel is very weak and I found I lost the signal every few minutes and sometimes could not connect at all. But it is... More

After arrival it was a trek to find our room (146) down a carpeted corridor to a lift to descend four floors and again down a corridor. We found the signage to be poor, in general the Hotel layout was also poor. The bed room furniture was outdated. I tried to obtain ice and was told I would have to... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Several years ago I was in Japan for 7 days. Stayed in 3 different 6 star hotels, but Hotel Kowaki-en, Hakone National Park, impressed me so much as it was simply out of this world, with incredible service, hyper-luxurious rooms with elegant bathroom. Simply so fairytale like that anyone ever stayed there will remeber it forever. It's like Paradise. Have the correct address in Denmark, where I'll arrive in 10 days. ... more   less
