Okay... Unfortunately, I have to write my first bad review about the hotel I am staying in during my trip to Japan... The hotel name is Hakone Hotel Kowakien and the service is the WORST compare to many other hotels I have stayed in Japan... It's such a dissapoinment.... My first bad experience began when the reception didn't greet us... More

friendly staff . Dust seemed to sit on most surfaces in this hotel . Gardens are pretty , rooms need updating however we're more spacious then most hotels in Japan . Swimming pool was full of leaves and at this time of year should of been completely closed to avoid looking so untidy.

The worst hotel experience in years. The tiny room was bad smelling, moldy and worn out. The onsen was so small that I could't fit in with many other guests bathing. The hotel had apparently canceled our group's special dinner on short notice and it was replaced with a buffet dinner, which was good but obviously not the same thing.

Onsen experience and nice Japanese food in a buffet. It was not possible to book for accommodation only; we had to book a package with dinner and breakfast (both buffet). The price is very expensive for tiny rooms. The Olsen facility is interesting and there is a nice park around. It a great place to spend a week-end; there are... More

This hotel is well located in a beautiful and lush garden. It is large and spacious but is showing its age and is in need of a facelift. The leaves are just starting to change and it is spectacular. We're at the hotel on the first night of two. There are no English channels on tv. Japanese style hot baths... More

Stayed 2 nights for 2 rounds of golf games with a group of friends - played at Hotel Kawana Golf resort and Yunahona Golf Resort. Hotel rooms are a bit run down - need refurbishment soon - the door knob is difficult to lock and open - must be at least 30 years old - especially after a night out... More

The hotel has amazing garden and big lobby, but it has old rooms. Hospitality is great but it dpea not offer any nearby restaurant other those on the hotel itself. Still i do find it a very good choice with reasonable price

This hotel I'm sure dates back to the 1970's. Rooms were large, bathroom small. In the middle of nowhere. Absolutely gorgeous gardens and a popular onsen, but nothing else to do if you arrive in the afternoon. Breakfast was substantial

This hotel is looking rather shabby and in need of renovation. The rooms are large and comfortable, but the bath tub was the size of a laundry tub. However, the grounds are beautiful and the lobby is pleasant. The buffet dinner was quite good with crab legs.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Several years ago I was in Japan for 7 days. Stayed in 3 different 6 star hotels, but Hotel Kowaki-en, Hakone National Park, impressed me so much as it was simply out of this world, with incredible service, hyper-luxurious rooms with elegant bathroom. Simply so fairytale like that anyone ever stayed there will remeber it forever. It's like Paradise. Have the correct address in Denmark, where I'll arrive in 10 days. ... more   less
