This was my first ryokan and onsen experience. I was traveling with a group of teens from the US and we had just come from a very rough tiny hotel in Tokyo so this hotel was fantastic for us. The staff spoke enough English for us to get by, but it is limited if that is important to you. The... More

Although some of the reviews are glowing, after 15 days in Japan, I can honestly report that this was the worst hotel we visited. The entire property is tired and our room, located with a view of the power poles and huge retaining wall, had a bathroom that looked like it was out of a 1960 mobile home. We paid... More

My boyfriend and I stayed for one night at the Hakone Yumoto hotel. This was truly a one-of-a kind experience. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room, had usage of both the outdoor and indoor onsen (hot spring bath) and we enjoyed a delicious multi-course traditional Japanese dinner and an all-you-can eat buffet for breakfast (Japanese and western style). The... More

We have booked one night in the Hakone Yumoto Hotel including dinner, breakfast and usage of hot spring bath - the rooms were nice traditionally Japanese equipped and also Japanese clothing were provided for the dinner and visiting of the bath downstairs. Everything well organized - staff was very friendly and extremely supportive although some language barriers had been in... More

Our first Ryokan in Japan and the best. Great Onsen although passing traffic can distract. The corner room we had was huge by western let alone Japanese standards. The tatami floor experience was a highlight of our trip. As we all the hotels we stayed in Japan the staff were friendly and helpful. A recommended experience

I came to Hakone for only one night with a group from work and this was a one of a kind experience: for a western, this gives you one of the true eastern spring experiences. Some eating options are available for the homesick (do not expect burgers) and accommodations are honest. The bath house is fantastic and it gives you... More

I travelled solo and booked a room which was reasonably price. However the room was located across from main hotel (called Annex Posada under my Japanican reservation). While this did cause slight inconvenience due to the rain, it's no show stopper to result in lower rating. The single bed room Is small but sufficient for one pax but clean and... More

We booked the deluxe semi western style room with kaiseki dinner for 4 of us for a night. Upon check in, my gal pal and I were led to choose our own yukatas which was a really pleasant surprise as we thought that everyone would be dressed the same! Whereas for the guys, their yukatas were already placed in our... More

Yes, I realize you visit for the hot springs. And their hot springs are wonderful. And so are their meals. The buffet dinner and buffet breakfast the following morning were outstanding. But I give it four stars because the rooms are small, the pillows hard as rocks, and the bathroom is something you might find in a Western RV -... More

This was our first experience of a Ryokan, and it was such fun. The staff were super friendly, and had enough English to help us use the bus, and order food and drink. Our room was lovely, with a little balcony overlooking mountains and hills. The novelty of wearing (supplied) yakatas throughout the hotel was fun. We tried the lovely... More
