Hakone Retreat Fore is excellent choice if you want to have quick retreat from the busy city life. Establishment is very nice with high quality onsens, beautiful restaurants and clean rooms. We read quite a many of previous reviews, and a lot has improved in the past months but of course there is still room to improve. Few major updates: - WiFi works everywhere - Paint in the rooms is OK, it suppose to look like that - Staff is super friendly and speaks as good English as you can expect - Food is good quality - Lounge has free coffee all the time and it's very good! Regarding the talks about prices, well, concidering the average prices around Hakone, Retreat Fore is on the average pricing.
The hotel is located in the woods and have beautiful scenery. Beautiful architecture but the rooms need badly to be painted as the walls were pilling off. We were in room f23. It's a shame since very high potential. Dinner and breakfast were not included in our case and we're very exepensive. No option of a la card. It's a problem since the hotel is isolated specially if one is without a car. We ate at a Korean restaurant 3.5 km. Down the road.
I just want to say a massive thank you to all the staff at the hotel... From check in they could not of been more welcoming and we stayed with our 17 month year old and he loved it. A real attention to what we needed... from giving us a free room up grade as it would be on the ground floor and more suitable for us... to letting our toddler help feed the fish in the morning as he is obsessed with fish. They also gave us an amenity kit with slippers and toothbrush, toothpaste and a little face cloth for him. There is also great high chairs in the restaurants so they are used to having children. We ate here in the evening, and yes it maybe expensive but was well worth it. Michelin standard and ok the plates are not massive but you won’t go hungry. We also opted for breakfast and we worked out at £13 a head but a hot and cold buffet sure to suit all tastes and very welcome fruit and vegetables. The bakery is also great as we had some bakery items when we arrived so a good Option for breakfast if you want something lighter. The free tea and coffee is a great addition to the hotel in the cafe where you can sit and relax. They also have an alcohol selection and they are roughly at UK prices. One night as suggested we went to solo pizza and that was also a welcome change to all the Japanese food. The staff all spoke a degree of English and at no point did we have issues communicating, I am not sure what all the other reviews were about but you have to remember you are in a different culture and country! …
The rooms are spacious, with glass window facing the trees and forest. The whole atmosphere is amazing! Morning with birds, trees, wind and sunshine. Onsen is perfect or small scale and the products are well prepared. Staff are all helpful and they made you feel that they care about you without giving you any uncomfortable attention. Breakfast is great with lot of choices. I really like this place and I had a great time here.
Today checking in, the receptionist didn’t give warm welcome to me. As I travel with my friend who is American, the car driver and male receptionist only communicate and help carrying my friend’s baggages then ignore me. So I paid for unequally treat? I could tell this is not a good service, you guys treat your customers unequally. What a shame on you!
