I don't think that I have ever stayed anywhere quite like this before. From the outside it looks like a corrugated iron agricultural shed. Step inside and all becomes modernist industrial elegance. The inn is spacious with communal areas set up for relaxing, reading or listening to music. The staff speak excellent English and are helpful and attentive, yet with...

The hotel is somewhat hidden behind a stone wrapped in metal wall. Most areas of the hotel (including the room) are extremely peaceful and somewhat inward directed: a great place to rest undisturbed by the outside world. We had a Japanese style split level room (apartment). Good beds, great bathroom, nice sitting room and a Japanese room. All very well...

The hotel is 10mins drive from Otaru, sitting on quiet country side. Garden is nice, breakfast is nice, the share hot spring is tiny but very nice. The bar provide free flow drink however we were too busy taking care of our two year old girl. I believe it's a very good bar. The problem is, the room is not...

Having searched for the most suitable nice hotel or ryokan to stay in Otaru while not staying in the same one we stayed before, I chose this because of some good reviews on Tripadvisor and other websites and it gives me a more contemporary feeling. So I chose the room facing the river. The environment is quiet and location is...

I read about it and I expected it was more like "Hoshino Resorts" in Karuizawa. But, it was not, except the price. It was not tradition onsen ryokan, but not quite modernly architecturally well designed resort, at most it was well decorated hotel. It was located next to a stream, not much scenic view and open space to visit. The...

On our last leg of our trip before heading home, we decided to book a night's stay at Kuramure and were glad we did. The Ryokan is located a little away from the city, but offer free shuttle bus pickup from the nearest JR station, Otaru Chikko, which is two stops from the main Otaru station. The decor and ambiance...

Spent one day last week in the hotel. The architecture and the atmosphere are the focus of this hotel. The room is big enough for my family of 4. But the Toilet room is way too small and surprisingly smelly ..... Which is a let down especially in Japan... ....The food is not as good as I have expected....so all in...

Wanted to come to this hotel three years ago, but it was fully booked then. So this time, I booked months in advance. And was I so WRONG! Two words to sum up my stay "VERY DISAPPOINTED"!!! Stayed for three nights, found the hotel to be very poorly managed! I would say most aspects were below Japanese standards! The attitude...

We stayed here at the end of our trip because we wanted something special to end with. It did not disappoint. Hidden behind an unimposing facade, the interior transports you to another place, far away from the semi-industrial surrounds outside. Accommodation and dining packages are somewhat expensive, but we felt that it was reasonable value for money. You can grab...

I stayed at Kuramure a few weeks ago with my mother. I was expecting it to be good for A$500/night and based on the limited reviews I had read. But we arrived and were just godsmacked at how lovely it was. Gorgeous setting wedged into a mountain over a stream, incredible architecture that oriented towards/perfectly framed the views, elegant modernist...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our hotel presents a total of 19 rooms of various styles. The decoration and furniture of each room is unique. From floor to ceiling, the decor and furniture are all totally coordinated. We make every effort to make our rooms as comfortable as possible so you can you can enjoy your stay to the full. The furniture is inspired by Japanese antiques, and antiques from the period of Li Dynasty and Ming Dynasty also appear in our rooms. The walls are painted with Japanese traditional plastering materials. The walls are also decorated with Japanese traditional paper, the texture of which gradually increases with time; its permeability is said to be good for people's health!
