Lovely hotel just directly opposite Otaru Canal, can't beat the location. Staff are attentive - they greeted us outside the hotel when we arrived and carried our luggages. Command of English limited though. Room is small but offset by the lovely retro Japanese decor and feel in the hotel. Guests can wear yutaka and relax in the lounge after having...

First impression, very warm & personalised service. Staff even came all the way out to the help us picked up our luggage from the taxi. Excellent service! Check in was smooth & explained thoroughly. Very nice location by the canal. Walking distance to all the sushi restaurants at the Sakaimachi street. Japanese breakfast buffet was the best. Staff were all...

While this hotel is small, it is well decorated and has very friendly and welcoming staff. The atmosphere here is very warm and cozy. We booked one of the special rooms on the 8th floor with a private bath. Although a bit expensive, it's very worth it. The room is a combination of western and Japanese style and is very...

We stayed for 2 nites in this hotel. This is the second time we stayed here. This time we booked the special room which is on 8th floor. It is pricey but worth it. The panoramic view of the canal is splendid from both the lounge and hot spring room. The room is very spacious, well equipped with all amenities....

The hotel lives up with the reputation, very nice and authentic decor and friendly staff. Breakfast is amazingly well, but get there eArly to have a seat by the window, so you can enjoy beautiful canal view. However, the room was a bit small so as toilet. And somehow the toilet had a smell. We only stayed for one evening...

Great location overlooking the Otaru Canal. Onsen is top notch. Fantastic service as well. Helped me book a great sushi restaurant. Will stay again if I'm back in Otaru. Cons: No ice machine, charge 100 Yen or something for a bucket of ice, that's a first for me in Japan!

It is about 5min walk away from the Otaru JR Station, easy to find. Staffs were very kind. They paid attention to every little details, from the building decorations, welcome drinks, room amenities, public bath, lounge area to breakfast. The hotel's rustic charm is a perfect match to the old city of Otaru. I would definitely go back to this...

We stayed here for one night. The Ryokan is old and basic, but very cosy and charming. The staff are very attentive and they try to make you feel at home. Nestled in between the canal and shopping and sushi street. The location is ideal as a base to explore Otaru. Between choosing a typical hotel or a Ryokan, I...

Coming from Hawaii, where tourism and the hospitality business is the primary industry, I have an appreciation of Good versus Excellent service. The staff at Furukawa is the best hospitality staff that I have encountered. We visited Hokkaido in February to attend the Yuki Matsuri Snow Sculpture Festival in Sapporo. We were fortunate enough to have the time to visit...

I have seen the photos of the canal in many magazines but never thought I can see it so up close from the room I stayed at this lovely ryokan. It truly was a home away from home with a nice rustic feel to the whole place. The friendly staff welcomed us at a traditional Japanese style looking reception area...
