I stayed here for 2 nights in August with my daughter. The room itself is simple but has a nice window into a courtyard. The common area is a great place to gather and meet other travelers. I loved the location as it was very close to a great bakery and in a safe and walkable neighborhood. The owners who run the place are very friendly and hospitable. Unfortunately, they were all booked up on the 3rd night we needed and had to move to another hotel that wasn't as cozy.

Great location, nice size rooms, wonderful common area and lovely courtyard garden. However, the couple who own the pension have a disagreement about smoking. The husband smokes in the garden and in the office attached to the reception area, leaving the doors to both open. The entire common area and the garden smell like cigarette smoke. We expressed our surprise and concern several times to no avail. Luckily, our room was down a long hallway, but we couldn't use the common area and had to wait for smoke to clear out of the garden. Perhaps this is a new problem, as Pension Hakodatemura came highly recommended and I haven't read about the smoking in TripAdvisor reviews. However, I absolutely do not recommend it.

A nice and cozy budget accomodation near the famous Hakodate Red Brickhouses. I would say the rooms are a bit more spacious for a typical budget hostel. The toilet and shower rooms are clean and pretty standard. I believe all rooms in the 2nd level have windows. Our host was polite and helpful in accomodating our requests. I would have given this place a 5-star rating if not for the unusually high-price we paid (booked through Expedia) for our 1 night stay which happened to fall within the Japan Golden Week.

My husband and I stayed in the Pension B&B as part of our honeymoon in May of 2016. We were travelling around Japan and this was the most memorable place we stayed at. The rooms were neat and the main dining area overlooked a charming courtyard. The hosts were absolutely lovely! The wife prepared delicious breakfasts including homemade jam and the husband spent hours helping me upload and save my photos. They went above and beyond and even placed jasmine flowers in our room when they found out it was our honeymoon. Our stay was unforgettable and we hope to stay there and see them again someday. If you want to feel like you are staying with local family in a welcoming environment this is the place to go. The location was also perfect, walking distance to the peak funiculaire, the tram and the bullet train.

B&B Pension Hakodate-mura is a clean budget pension option in Hakodate. The location is very convenient, being a short walk away from the warehouse waterfront district, the cable car up to the summit of Mt. Hakodate, and the churches at the base of the mountain. It's a bit of a trek from Hakodate station (25 minutes) but you could also easily jump on a street car to cut down that time. Fun fact: the oldest concrete utility pole in Japan is just across the street from the inn. The place certainly feels like a budget option, none of the flashy or modern amenities that most other business hotels have. It didn't matter to us but it's worth noting that there was no television in the room. The woman who checked us in and out was very friendly and spoke good English. There is a nice seating area inside that looks out over the garden and is where, I presume, breakfast is served but we went with the rate that didn't include breakfast since we were leaving early. There is a curfew as well, the front door is locked after 11:00pm. Overall, this a very basic, no frills place to stay but it is cozy enough and the staff are nice enough and the location is convenient. The room we were in was a decent size as well (we had the one with the private bathroom). A good budget option for travelers.
