My husband and I visited both Miho Shrine and Izumo Shrine in Shimane Prefecture, which is called "Ryomairi" or visiting two shrines in sets to get prayers steadily answered. This Ryomairi was in fashion in Edo Era. Izumo Shrine and its surrounding areas have good hotels to stay but we had difficult to find even accommodation around Miho Shrine. Product of compromise was this Toko Hotel, that reminded us of the hotels we often saw in the films of Showa Era, when Japanese only needed to work for postwar reconstruction and didn't care too much for being comfort. Dinner and breakfast were probably delivered from outside and bath was unbelievably small. The interior of the hotel was old and shabby. But the landscape of Miho was so amazing as if we slipped back in time to fishing village in 30 to 40 years old. If you travel this area, I recommend to look for hotels in Sakaiminato or Yonago, which takes 20 to 30 minutes from Miho by car... More
