The place is absolutely beautiful! The hostel is an old traditional Japanese house which is very well kept and with a slightly modern touch in the details. Staff is lovely and always very helpful. Atmosphere is very chilled out and nice. A very relaxing place to stay at and to meet people. During the day it turns into a very popular café, unfortunately I couldn't try their food and desserts but looks yummy :) Really enjoyed my stay here, highly recommend this place!

Its nicely located in the midst of the old town, close to the canal and to the temples. To the station you walk about 10 min. The staff was very helpful, showing me on the map what to see and where to go while in Kurashiki. The other guests welcomed me into their round, it was easy to meet others and have a chat over a tea. The guest house is small and has a shared bathroom where you sign up for a slot in the morning or evening, it is for certain time periods only. You can decide between private and dormitory style traditional Japanese rooms with tatami mats and futon beds. It’s one of the 100 years old traditional guest houses in Japan with an inner courtyard that has a tree. If you want have that feeling I recommend staying in this guest house. If you stay multiple days, you will need to put together your belongings during the day as this is a nice cozy café during the daytime and a guesthouse at night. The only con in my eyes is that you hear everyone else in the house during the night as it is paper-thin walls (as in many traditional places in Japan). It’s a beautiful town. Be aware though at times it can be full with tourists as it is popular with Japanese and Chinese people, not so well known to tourists from further abroad.

This guesthouse gives you kind of a traditional japanese experience, with small dorms where you sleep on the floor in a hundred year old house. Even though it was cool to experience, it was way too overpriced for what we got. One night the heater did not work, so it was freezing. The one toilet were placed in the backyard of the guesthouse, so form the female dorm you had to go down and out. Also, the showers could only be used until 9am and at night from 6:30pm. As I said, the sleeping on the floor was cool to experience, but not for the price we paid! Staff was very nice though, and the guesthouse is situated very nicely in the historical part of town.

Thank you very much for staying with us. Sorry for any inconvenience about the heater and toilet. As our property has no air conditionings, this is the true that our building is freezing during winter. We provide guests a ‘yutanpo’ (Japanese hot water bottle to get warm in bed) as a traditional life experience. We have repaired our facilities one by one and now that the toilets are available both in 1st floor and upstairs. As we operate a café during the day time, shower time and some facilities are limited in some way. Many thanks for understanding and cooperation of guests. The stay in traditional Japanese building in Kurashiki historical area must be great experience for everyone. We keep on doing our best to make this experience better and more special for you. Thank you very much for reviewing us. See you again!

I stayed here only one night so my review would be super narrow but I'll do it anyway. I really enjoyed staying here. Staffs in here are very friendly and warmly welcomed me when I arrived here before check-in time. While processing check-in, the staff briefly introduced the concepts of Yurian and facilities. After then guests got an opportunity to introduce themselves. Good for socializing and after party(hehe) When I got here I was the only foreigner and sadly I'm not so much great at Japanese language. I couldn't talk a lot with other guests but I liked being with them. They were vibrate and fascinate. The building is definitely old and traditional so I understand the facilities are not the state of art and somehow staying this kind of traditional house is inconvenient when you're super care about 'modern atmosphere '. Anyway I like staying in a traditional, old house :) It was my 1st experience staying traditional Japanese residential house. Neighbor is so much deserved. If you're tired of crossing bunch of people in Kyoto or feeling boring about Kyoto, Kurashiki might be another alternative place that you look for!

Thank you for staying with us and reviewing our property in detail. I am glad to hear that you really enjoyed staying and had a good time with other guests. We have time to interact with staffs and other guests every day from 6:30 pm to 7 pm so that you can get to know each other. So we strongly recommend guests to arrive or come back at 6:30 pm. The traditional building over 100-year-old is also our pride. It may not so convenient to stay in old house than in modern property, however, you can enjoy the experience of traditional life style of Japan. In addition, Kurashiki has many traditional buildings and people here is warm and kind. You can meet history and culture of Japan. I hope to see you again!

Everything was awesome in this guesthouse. The facilities were clean, the location was perfect. The most impressed thing was really warm staff. They talked with the guests super friendly, and tell us many things about Kurashiki such as history, style of architecture, good place for dinner and so on. I really had good time here, so I'm pretty sure to come back.
