We stayed over weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. This boutique ryokan is perched on hill side secluded location overlooking the bay and Hatsushima Island. Most appreciate the excellent and warm service of manager Arai, Ito who attended us and other staff members. We had an unforgettable culinary journey of French Japanese fusion and traditional Japanese from Chef de Cuisine Miura. Very nicely appointed and spacious room. Watching sun rise and star gazing while in private onzen was blissful. A truly memorable stay. We will surely visit again.

Hospitality and indulgence at Atami. It's almost impossible to fault this establishment. We stayed for 3 nights with our 12-year old daughter and the experience was remarkable and memorable. Pleasantly surprised by the attention to detail; the finesse and passion that goes into food preparation and the curated wine list. We where lucky to spend summer at the start of Hanabi season - brilliant firework display from a vantage point, about 5 minutes drive from the hotel. Transportation; seamlessly arranged, museum tickets and staff are always at hand with useful tips from the best sushi downtown to the scenic beaches nearby. The only thing I would recommend is for the hotel to offer pick up service from train station. Otherwise, we left with beautiful memories and a bag full of freshly baked goodies and jam. Would love to return one day or try other hiramatsu resorts.

This hotel with good location! Atami is only 45 minutes from Shinagawa! Hotel will arrange atami station pick up for another 10 minutes! I walk to atami castle for 10 minutes! But it seems not many people notice that the best picture taking location is only 20 meter away from the hotel gate! The hotel provide japanese style franch food! Food is good! I like anomalies most! See the picture! They ask our opinion about the food because they want to be good prepare for 2020 Tokyo olimpic!

Yoshi, who attended to my wife and I, made sure all our needs were made. He went out of his way to address all our needs. Chef de Cuisine Katsuya Miura prepared some wonderful meals for us during our stay. Dining at the hotel was like dining in a 1 Michelin Star restaurant. Rooms were well designed and spacious. And bathroom amenities were first class. Compliments to an excellent team of service staff!

First rate service, attentive staff. Hotel is interesting mixture of west and east. Elevator, modern furniture and some Japanese elements. Luxury rooms with in-room onsen and stunning ocean view. Nice small dining room with nice setup and great view. First class French cuisine with local ingredients. I know that resort is run by French restaurant but I would prefer more Japanese style cuisine. Definitely excellent first class hotel. You just have to decide what you are looking for - modern hotel or traditional ryokan.

The quality of service is definitely first rated. The staff is very attentive from the moment you checked in, when you exit from the elevator, at meals etc. The meals are also excellent. If you have any allergies, you can tell the hotel in advance and they will alter the menu for you.

This was our first stop in Japan and first onsen for that matter. Only a 40 minute train ride from Tokyo, choosing this hotel in Atami was the perfect way to spoil ourselves after the long trip. Our wonderful experience began arrival, as the concierge was helpful in arranging pick up from the station. It is clear that deliberate thought has gone into every detail of the guests' stay at this luxury property. Among the highlights were the incredibly considerate staff, the in-room onsen and spectacular view...and of course the food. We spent two nights at the hotel and while we ventured into the town to explore our first Japanese city - we ultimately spent most of the stay in Atami at the hotel. Can't wait to explore more Hiramatsu properties!

If there really were such a thing as six-star hotels, they would look something like the Hiramatsu Atami – elegant service that anticipates without being overbearing or stuffy, luxurious rooms with unique design, stunning ocean views and fine dining with high execution. A small, boutique, design-focused hotel situated on an isolated bluff overlooking the ocean, the Hiramatsu blends the best of high-end Japanese hospitality with European elegance in a setting that felt to be a step above 5-star luxury. There are not too many hotels that we have stayed in which so consistently delivers across every element of a stay, but the Hiramatsu does it. The room, the service, the dining and the setting were all exquisite. The service was a perfect blend of elegance, anticipation and comfort. We really never had to ask for anything and it seemed like every moment and detail of our stay had been anticipated. From the greeting outside when our taxi rolled into the property, to check-in conducted in a dining room, to the way we were guided to our rooms after check-in and meals. Service during meals was formal – servers wore tuxedos – but it never felt overbearing or stuffy. We genuinely felt comfortable and relaxed with the staff acting with a grace that was incredibly guest-focused while maintaining the ambience of the luxury setting. They really were elegance defined. Dinner and breakfast were served by candle-light in a beautiful, almost-rustic, small dining room with beautiful views of the sea and gorgeous wood paneling throughout. It almost felt as if we had found ourselves in a hidden maison in the French countryside. The cuisine was French but with local ingredients and was naturally of very high standard. It brought together the usual Japanese focus on freshness and purity of ingredients with French execution. There were so many courses, it is difficult to describe them all, but I will just mention that the fried egg with truffle oil and foie gras at breakfast was so perfectly executed that I felt it was the best breakfast dish I had ever had. Each of the rooms comes with private hotspring bath and beautiful ocean views. The rooms are large and had a unique layout with the toilet and closet first upon entry, then bedroom, then large open bathroom with shower, bath and his/hers sinks which leads out to the terrace. The décor was bold and unique and the room was well thought out with excellent amenities. We particularly noted the Bulgari toiletries and the thoughtful separate sinks which could double as vanities. The bathroom is connected to the terrace by large sliding glass doors, so you can enjoy the hotspring bath in the open-air with unobstructed ocean views. Of course, all of this comes at a price and the room rate (including dinner and breakfast) was just north of US$1,200/night. But for that you get an entire experience well beyond just a hotel room including a spectacular setting, exquisite fine dining, unique décor and gorgeous views. One final grace note came at check-out when the chef de cuisine came to see us off. He had prepared for us a little care package of baked goods to see us off on our long journey home – a thoughtful, humble touch that perfectly summed up the spirit of the Hiramatsu Atami.

It was a delightful surprise to have the experience something similar to ones at Aman, GHM, and other global players at Atami, a traditional Japanese hot spring destination which has been known as a bit run-down place. The room with a hot spring bathtub was perfectly appointed, very comfy, and easy to use. Since this resort is run by Tokyo’s one of top-notch French restaurants, their dinner and breakfast were something that can live up to their reputation. (Even croissants they gave us as a souvenir upon our check out was pretty perfect- something you couldn’t expect in Atami before.) Some highend resorts and inns in Japan don’t welcome kids but Hiramatsu is different and we appreciated their attentive care (especially by their okami, female inn master, Mayumi-san) even for our 5yo. I usually don’t write a review but I had to because I was so glad to have this level of experience at a place just 50 minutes away from Tokyo Station. We will definitely come back.
