This is a nice guesthouse with private onsen (which you can use with no extra fee!). The rooms are basic but comfortable; the beds are typical japanese style (futon on a tatami floor) and are surprisingly very comfortable. The comunal areas are very clean and modern. It does not have the backpacker atmosphere that I was expecting but it is still very nice. The location is remote (in the middle of the Japanese alps) which may make it difficult to access and but it provides with amazing views and great hiking spots. The host, Yuma, offers to pick you up from the nearest bus station, we did not need it as we had a car.
This was my second stay here and it was just as fantastic as the first. The owner and all of the staff went out of their way to help us have a great time- including driving us to hikes and explaining the local area to us. We rented snowshoes from them and did our own hikes and they were absolutely beautiful. When I came in the summer the hiking was also great. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need. The breakfast is healthy and suitable for vegetarians, and at such a reasonable price. The Onsen are in my opinion the best in Japan and we really enjoyed using the outdoor Onsen. Perfect relaxing stay- thank you!!
Stay in Raicho is awesome. Around 5-10 minutes walk from the kanko Center. From the same kanko Center bus stop, is easily access to kamikochi and some tourist attraction nearby. They can fetch you for lunch or dinner (which you need car transport) upon request. We use the kitchen with clean utensils cooking food we got from supermarket. Room is clean. Onsen is awesome, can have private onsen session. Recommended this place to whoever love mountain, getting to kamikochi, etc. A very affable and friendly owner who giving a lot of Japan travel advice.
I stayed there for 3 nights. The guest house is located in a good location, about 7-10 minutes walk from the Kanko Center Mae Bus Stop, which you can take the bus from there to Mt Norikua, Kamikochi, the Shinshimashima train station, etc. You can start the Norikura highland trekking from the house. Not far from the guesthouse, there is a mountain bike shop that you can rent out. Yuma san, the owner, was very kind and was very knowledgable in the area. He gave me good advices about the itinerary during my stay. The place is very clean. You can either choose to stay in a private room or in a dormitory. The outdoor onsen was gorgeous. You can book it for your private use. I will defenitely go back to stay there again if I have a chance.
The nights spent in this guesthouse was the absolute highlight of our trip in Japan. There are nice trails close to the house with beautiful waterfalls and lakes. It takes just one hour to get to Kamikochi with several daily public buses. Good DIY breakfast option with tasty ingredients in the fridge for reasonable price. Excellent outdoor onsen, we started and finished our days there. The host (Yuma) was kind and extremely helpful. He even drove us to the next bus stop when we would have missed it.
