We had great time in this reyokan. This is not a luxury hotel, but it provides an experience of traditional Japanese hospitality. The lack of English has been replaced with optimal service, including assistance in sending suitcases to Tokyo and transportation to the train station. The onsen was a real gem at the end of a long day. Great value for money.
This is a really good place to stay if you’re looking for a cheap Ryokan. Staff are super friendly, but unfortunately don’t speak much English. However, you can get by with google translate. There is an Onsen that is shared amongst the guests, however you can flip a sign on the door to mark it as occupied so you can use it alone. The only real downside is that the staff clean around 9-10am in the morning. So if you’re looking for a peaceful sleep in this probably isn’t the best stay for you. Though If you’re an early riser and like to try different types of hostels this place is going to be perfect. They also have free hire bikes you can use to get around.
Clean inn about 15-20 minutes walk from station, with comfortable futons, but hairdryers outside paper thin walls, and drinks machine clanking all night in the Annex made for little sleep. Definitely take strong ear plugs if you stay here.
We had the deluxe family room which was very spacious. The place was very clean and well kept. Staff very helpful though our lack of Japanese language wasn't so useful! The lift to station on checkout was useful as it's not an ideal location on the other side of the station from town centre through a reasonably busy few streets though we have some little legs in our family and just took taxis when required. As we had a fridge in our room and could use the downstairs microwave, some information on how we could borrow cutlery or crockery would have been useful as we didn't like to make any mess! It would have also been good to be able to separate out our rubbish as we knew how well Japanese segregate it and didn't like the thought of staff having to go through our rubbish bag to do so! The family bath was too hot for most of the family though we have young children <5 years. The fridge froze most of our food even on the lowest setting; perhaps something could be done about this but overall an enjoyable stay that seemed good value and gave us a Ryokan experience.…
A last minute change from a capsule hotel to this more traditional ryokan was definitely the right choice for my brief stay in Matsumoto. Simple Japanese style room with onsen facilities. About 5-10 minutes’ walk from the station in a quiet corner of the town. A nice little town it was too with the main draw being the 5 storey castle.
