A beautiful city with hiking available for all levels. You could climb the mountain or just walk the trails along the river. A beautiful place with mountain air. If you want outdoor Japan, this is the place.

I stayed here in May 2015 and it was the best season transited from winter to spring. Kamikochi is such a peaceful place and there're a number of hiking routes nearby you can spend the day. The restaurant offers the traditional Chaliapin Steak that is quite rare to find in Asia. The hotel premises and the area around made you... More

Imperial Hotels are considered to be one of best and old hotels in Japan, or at least that's the image they have cultivated. This resort hotel is old and established with great original architectural details. It is located exclusively in woods, where you can have nice walk. My single night stay was very relaxing and comfortable. The services were impeccable.... More

Frequented mostly by locals due to its remote location, the Japanese Alps are a gorgeous retreat if you've time and money to spare. The Imperial Kamikochi is everything you'd expect of a 5-star hotel: comprehensive amenities, service, luxury, exquisite dining. Our room was in the style of a mountain chalet, spacious with high windows and beautiful views. Book well in... More

The Kamikochi Imperial Hotel is a gracious Alpine lodge in a national forest. Hiking trails begin steps from the hotel, and offer a full day of mountain, river, and pond views. The hotel itself is an historic building with every comfort and amenity provided-- without marring the architecture, for example, the bathroom was updated gorgeously, and sensitively appointed with a... I really couldn't see how they justify the price--there is no AC, the bathroom was in the shower room (quite rare in Japan), and besides a restaurant and a small library, there are no extra services they offer. This is really just a place for the older folks in Japan who just want to stay at the Imperial Hotel. I... More

We stayed at the Kamikochi Imperial Hotel during our Honeymoon in Japan. We wanted to hike in the so called "Japanese Alps" for a couple days during our stay, so we stayed in Kamikochi. This hotel is lovely and it is clearly maintained at the highest level. There are many food options at the hotel as well. The price is... More

This grand lodge is wonderful.  The location being a huge part of it... right in the middle of the National reserve, offering spectacular views and starting points for hikes.   The service lives up to the "Imperial" standard;  excellent, proactive, helpful and knowledgable.  The staff couldnt have done more.  We had a balcony room with wonderful views of the hillside,... This hotel was nice. It had the feel of a small Swiss mountain hotel complete with European cuisine and a massive fireplace. The staff was super polite and attentive and spoke conversational English. That said there were a number of downsides. The place was expensive and while some of the cost was warranted (Kamikochi is expensive and remote after all)... More

This is a very luxurious high class hotel with a long history in perfect shape and a very cosy atmosphere with its chalet style. We spent three very nice days there during our two-week roundtrip through Japan in October 2014 and we felt comfortable and well taken care of. However, at 310 USD per room and night, not including breakfast... More
