Nothing but good things to say about the Murataya Ryokan in the lovely city of Kanazawa. First of all its location is excellent, in the middle of downtown, close to the tourist bus that takes you to all the sites, restaurants and shopping, but down a quiet side street away from the hustle and bustle. The ryokan is charming. Impeccably... More

Murataya was a special place from the moment we stepped in the door and were welcomed with a cup of a tea and local sweet. The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, our room was excellent in the Japanese style, as was the breakfast. We could not have been happier with our experience, everything was just as we hoped for... More

We did a quick 1.5-day visit to Kanazawa from Takayama before heading back to Osaka and decided we would avoid big hotels and stay somewhere a little more traditional. Murataya Ryokan was honestly the greatest decision! It's about 10-15 minutes away from Kanazawa station by taxi or you can take the bus (located in Katamachi district). We were welcomed with... A friend and I stayed at Murataya ryokan for three nights. It was the best choice I made. Granted it is not within a walking distance from the Kanazawa JR station, but it is smack dab in downtown Kanazawa within walking distance from all the major attractions: museums, Kenrokuen, Kanazawa castle & park, Samurai quarters, geisha quarters AND the shopping... Stayed here for a night. The innkeepers were a group of nice chaps who are very helpful, especially when we consulted them on popular local restaurants. They have actually prepared a hand-drawn map of the popular places and restaurants around the inn for hotel guests ! Rooms are clean and comfortable. Would need to take a bus from Kanazawa Station... I had to stay one night in Kanazawa to catch a 7.30am flight from Komatsu airport the next day, and found Murataya Ryokan just right. The one-person room was quite spacious and worth it for the 4,900 yen I paid. I enjoyed the ryokan bath which has just enough space for two people but is more comfortable for one. There... More

We stayed here for 2 nights in November. The rooms were clean and good sized with a comfortable futon and great heater. The shared bathroom and shower were also extremely clean. The ryokan is in a wonderful location for walking to see the sites. Yuichi was so helpful in giving us directions but in also recommending the best sushi restaurants in... More

We've just visited there during Kanazawa marathon. Murataya is a really nice ryokan with great price! The place is clean and nice. Though we had to do share bath & toilets, it was a great experience. The bath is nice and hot which is a great way to relax after a day of walking! My two year old really enjoyed... More

Firstly, it's in a fantastic location, really central to shops and restaurants. The whole place is immaculately clean, and no wonder really given the comment below! The rooms were great. Really nice, great size and all the bedding was really comfortable. The Western breakfast was really good. The owner spent quite a bit of time on our arrival cleaning the... More

Murataya is a very good ryokan at an excellent price - they've got a very nice staff as well! My friend and I stayed here after 5 very cramped nights in a ryokan in Tokyo, so the spaciousness was much appreciated. The rooms were a great size, very clean, very traditional, and very comfortable. The bathrooms are shared, so if... More
