I would hesitatingly give it 4 stars if I weren't sweating in my room, but that is because of the lobby being pretty and the staff. The room is like a motel room worthy of 2 stars. By far the best thing is the staff, who are ample and extremely polite. They took our bags from the cab straight to... More

We stayed on the fifth floor in a room with a private outdoor bath. It was gorgeous and relaxing. We were in and out of the tub, soaking in the water (and the scenery). And the meals were fantastic. Regarding the dinner menu, the Hida beef shabu shabu was particularly tender and flavorful. The breakfast included the traditional miso rice... More

We just spent two nights at this hotel with our 15 yo twin sons.We had two rooms on the 5th floor both with private outdoor baths. Rooms have two beds side by side - one single and one queen. You go through the shower to get to the bath. The shower is glass and you feel like you are showering... More

I haven't ever been in a ryokan but I strongly recommend this one. It might be old fashioned but it worths: it seems like you're in an original Japanese house, with futon, tatami, etc. The breakfast and the dinner are only Japanese - style. The staff doesn't speak English very well but they are all so kind and cute that... More

A typical Ryokan in an old town. Though rooms are a bit run down and small, but they are really clean. We like the atmosphere around the hotel as it is very quiet. Highly recommend. Breakfasts and dinners package were not impressed compared to Ryokan we had stayed in Kyoto. For dinners, we had to order extra beef for main... More

Having come from the Tokyo lights it was a perfect imersion in country Ryokan accommodation complete with traditional bath, breakfast to remember and very polite staff. The location works being on the edge of the old quarter but also on the slope of the park that also takes you to the old temple part of town. You need walking shoes... More

We wanted some traditional experience but booked a twin room with normal beds. The hotel is a bit tired and our bathroom really was in need of repair as toilet seat keapt detaching and there was a big step from bathroom to the room which i found not very safe. The location of ryokan is excellent with short stroll to... More

This was my first Ryokan experience and I cannot forget the experience. They provided transfer from station and is located ideally with a short downhill walk to the most interesting part of Takayama. The people were friendly and helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed the hit bath both open air and indoor in the 2 days I was there. Food was... More

I have stayed in many ryokans in Japan. This one is OK. The futons are very skinny, compared to those at other ryokans, therefore there is not much between you and the floor. The meals are average, one of our group requested no msg and got a completely different meal, leaving us to wonder! The onsen is good, especially the... More

Let me start by saying this was our only authentic ryokan experience while in Japan, so I can't judge it against other ryokans. It was a truly wonderful experience, and I only wish we could have afforded to stay two nights rather than pack up and move to a cheaper place on our second night in Takayama. I find it... More
