About 30 minutes walk and some parts uphill, better take a taxi about 600 yen. Once arriving you are ushered to a lounge and served green tea. Room is clean, but wc smelly. Odd to squat down for shower with a plastic chair provided. At night your room will be make up with beds on the tatami floor. Breakfast is...

Booked the private western/Japanese room for one night and wanted to stay in shiragawago for the second. Unfortunately rooms were all full and we eventually decided to book a basic Japanese room the second night at Hoshokaku. The rooms at level 5 where we stayed had a private onsen. It was lovely with comfortable space, own massage chair and could...

As a westerner there are few opportunities to trully get the full experience of Japanese Culture. The Hoshokaku hotel really does an amazing job at giving you this amazing experience. Note that you can indulge as much as you feel comfortable. They are always ready to provide you with comfort. The staff is amazing and willing to make your experience...

At 2:30pm I arrived by their shuttle bus , propped on a walking stick due to knee surgery .Reception says I have to stand and wait till 3pm or go sit in the smoke clogged waiting lounge . Its hotel policy they say . Never mind that room is ready and luggage already in the room. Location totally inaccessible at...

Clean, comfortable rooms but there's no distinction of smoking/non-smoking room and as luck would have it, the room we got stank of cigarette smoke. Unfortunately, they didn't have another room to change for us so we had to "air" the room and the staff sprayed plenty of deodorant on the curtains and sofa. The ryokan has an indoor as well...

Friendly staffs, nice view and comfortable room. Oh, the hot springs are awesome!

We stayed in this hotel last year and again this year because of its location and the onsen. The hotel is on a hill so be warned that it is a hike to get back from the town. The staff are fantastic. The rooms are looking very tired and dated. They could do with an update. There is no laundry...

Although billed as a ryokan, we felt that it was more of a hotel with some features of a ryokan. It's quite a large property so it lacks the intimacy you'd expect in an inn. Having said that it's still a very nice place to stay. We had a lovely room featuring a sizable private outdoor hot tub with extensive...

We stayed there for two nights, checked in to a large corner room with futon bedding. Lets be honest, it's not my cup of tea. The back was sore after just one night but now i know! We had breakfast and dinner included and the presentation was fantastic and the atmosphere really nice. The location is really close to the...

This ryokan provided a high quality ryokan experience and what we assumed to be traditional Japanese food, beautifully presented. However, the 'free' wifi comprised access to wifi for only four 15 minute sessions each day whilst in the public lounge which also serves as a smoking area and bar complete with television. There was no wifi signal on the bedrooms.
