My family of four stayed here for three nights in June 2016. We reserved through Booking.com via tripadvisor, and stayed in the "family room with tatami area". It was an excellent room: comfortable, with air conditioning. It was very quiet at night. Although the ryokan has substantial capacity, our room and the whole facility authentic Japanese feel; we felt that... More

Enjoying our stay in Asunaro, staffs are friendly and warm. Everything in the hotel was explained clearly by the staff. We could wear our chosen yukata (ladies only), man can only choose different sizes, around the hotel. Dinner was at a good standard with Hida beef and other Japanese dishes. The decorations inside the hotel was amazing. They even provide... More

We stayed one night in May 2016 and it was something that we will remember for a long time. The staff were very friendly, helpful and inviting. The room was fantastic with traditional paper walls and tatami mats. We slept on futons on the floor and they were very comfortable. Our room included Dinner and breakfast and they were amazing.... We stay in Ryokan Asunaro 3 nights. The hotel is in a very good position, 5-6 minutes from Takayama train station and few minutes walk to center area and historic house street. The hotel is in full Ryokan traditional style and very spacious room with Western beds and very comfortable Japanese bed as optional. The breakfast was very lovely with... More

This is where I decided to spend a little more for the traditional ryokan experience, and it didn’t disappoint. You get your own Yukata (Japanese robe) to lounge around in, the rooms are comfortable, and the food is excellent. Location was great if you’re traveling in/out by train because it’s an easy walk to both the station and “downtown”. I... More

Experiencing a Ryokan is something every visitor to Japan needs to try and do. The Asunaro gives that experience and caters to foreignors so you don't feel like a fish out of water. I took first time friends there: their impression as they entered the building, then room, then dining room.. was all 'gasps' of excitement. We could wear our... More

Stayed here for only 1 night but this hotel is really nice with lovely rooms and incredible breakfast. Loved the place that is so relaxing. The location is very good and city center can easily reached by foot. Will go again

Stayed 2 nights with 11 months baby daughter and partner. Lovely welcoming, the area where the ryokan is located is the best place where to stay, we went to a couple of restaurants nearby, off from the main tourists track in the oldest part of the town, and we had the best meals since here in Japan. The people are... More

The ryokan is located a good 15 mins walk from Takayama station and features a decent sized onsen segregated by gender. I was overwhelmed by the size of the room (by japanese standards!), which came with a separate living room, bed room and washroom area. There's even a small fireplace stove where you can strike a match and boil water... More
