Extremely hospitable accommodation where everyone always greets you and always has a smile on their face. And the food! Absolutely delicious and very generous with portions. A great way to experience a Ryokan and I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone interested.

We loved our experience here! The room was large and comfortable. The futons were set up while we ate, and we all slept really well. The onsen was my first experience with public baths, and I found it quite relaxing. Our children loved the yukatas provided and didn't want to take them off. We really enjoyed the food for breakfast and dinner, especially the Hida beef. As some have noted, it is A LOT of food. Come hungry! We bought some peach liquer in town, and were given a key for a locked cold box to use to keep it cold. We enjoyed our treat in the public areas at night while our kids slept. The whole family really enjoyed this experience. The staff is helpful and very friendly. Some earlier reviews commented on the smoking, but the whole ryokan is non-smoking now so that is no longer an issue.

Best location, wonderful staff and amazing dinners. They went out of their way to make my stay comfy, pick up at the train station, maps of the city, make my bed while I was eating dinner. Wish though that their wonderful soa had also a cold water pond to sit in, just hot.

Great place to stay if you want a traditional Japanese experience with a futon bed and meals in a japanese dining room, all for a reasonable price plus they picked me up from Takayama Station (promply at the designated time) and dropped me back there in time to catch a 8.00am train. There is no shower in the bedroom but there is a toilet and washbasin and the shower is just at the bottom of the stairs.

Great hospitality. Comfortable inn. If you cannot sit on the floor to eat, they provide you with low stools. Futons are comfortable too. Food is varied and plentiful. Highly recommend the kabuki theatre which is a 12 minute walk at the ancient Jin-ya which is itself a majestic location. Hida Folk Village is a must see for all age groups.
