Taxi driver at the Takayama Station said something that sounded like the hotel is close. We used the taxi to travel one block down and one across from the station... that is how close the hotel is to the station. Very touristy gift shop around the station. Very classic entrance to the 6 floor hotel. Shoes off at the door...

Simple and authentic, popular with Japanese and westerners alike. For that reason the bathing facilites are shared and split by gender. Very helpful and friendly English-speaking staff. Shuttle bus service from/to station available at certain times.

We have been pleasantly surprised by our stay. The rooms are really comfortable and traditional but the highlight is the onsen. Traditional cotton robes (changed daily), all toiletries and towels provided. Really relaxing steamy VERY hot baths inside and out. If you are lucky to be with Japanese old or young its even more special. Even if you don't speak...

Even if the Ryokan is pretty far from the centre of the town, the hotel is really nice. Rooms are big enough, clean and well equipped. Baths are shared but clean as well. The onsen is really nice. Dinner and breakfast simply fantastic. Staff speaks a very little English but very friendly, nice and helpful. Free shuttle only from the...

We spent two nights at this ryokan and it was great. The room was nice and confortable and the baths simply delicious. Breakfast was also really nice. The only setback is its location: be ready to walk or pay for a taxi (which is not that expensive, less than 1.000 yen from the station).

So far the best place we have stayed in Japan. Kind of a ryokan, it's really worth booking a dinner (you can book it the same day in the morning). They serve a big amount of different japanese traditional food, very tasty and at a reasonable price (¥2720/person). The hotel has a private onsen which is really nice also. They...

We stayed there for 2 nights. The place is a traditional Japanese style with tatami floors, shared restrooms and a shared showers/hot tub. very nice experience! The food was very tasty, also Japanese cuisine. The staff is very friendly. The place is abit off centre of Takayama, about 2 km, you need a car or a bus that runs every...

Despite the fact that Oyado Hachibei is kind of far from the center, everything else is just perfect. Nice room with the view of rice field, Beautiful onsen: outdoor and indoor, very friendly staffs, great breakfast, peaceful and quite atmosphere. We couldn't ask for me, it was a perfect stay. Direction: take Sarubobo bus from Tayakama bus center to Hida...
