The Hotel is less than 5 minutes walk from the train/bus station. Check in was fast and staff is very friendly. The room has a good space and good shower, but the stars are the baths in the 13th floor. The private and public have a beatiful city view . Had breakfast and dinner in the hotel, both very good and... More

The only merit about this ryokan is it vicinity to the train and bus station. If a drive, I would never stay in this place. You have to take off your shoes once you pass the lobby area but no socks, slippers or sandals are provided. that means you either go bare footed or put on your own socks, even... More

The hotel is quite near the JR and bus stations. It takes from the station to there about 3-4 minutes on foot. Seria (100 yen shop) is nearby the hotel (2 minutes on foot). However, we needed to walk for 15 minutes to the sightseeing areas. You need to put off the shoes in the lobby and bare foot even... More

My husband and I stayed at Takayama Ouan for two nights in July, and had a generally positive experience. As people have noted, the lobby is extremely busy during check in and check out, though we were processed very efficiently. The room was nice, with an in-suite shower. We also took advantage of the on-site onsen - a private bath... More

There are many rules at this hotel. You take off your shoes and leave them in lockers in the lobby, no check-ins until the exact hour. However, lockers are labeled only in Japanese, there are few chairs to sit for changing shoes, and wheeled suitcases do much more damage to the tatami mats than any shoes. We arrived at 2:30... The breakfast buffet is great very good. You have to take off your shoes when you want to walk around in the hotel, which is very nice I think. The room and hotel floor is made of somehow plastic tatami and is comfortable to walk on. Be aware that only the superior rooms are on the non-train-track side. The normal... More

The location is only 5 minutes away from the station. The hotel and the rooms use tatami as floors. I chose one night stay with breakfast and dinner. The dinner serves local dish with beef and it's great. The hot bath is good and relaxing. The room is big and comfortable with a big wide bed. Everything is good for... More

Takayama Ouan has clean attractive rooms. Another plus is their private onsen with lovely views. The breakfast buffet is also quite varied and plentiful. But the positives stop there. The lobby is a souvenir circus. (South of the Border, South Carolina flavor.) You must remove your shoes after passing through the promotions to reach an assigned shoe locker. We're seniors... More

It is a small town of miniature-like streets and dwellings. They said that this village has been featured in films many many times! It reminds me of the town Lalock in England. We did stroll on the village center where shops and tourists converged . In spite of its understands village feel, the Takayama center is a bustling with tourists.... More
