This ryokan is beautiful from the carp ponds to the private dining rooms. Our room had a private bathing area (apart from the bathroom - like a hot tub ) and we had traditional bedding, a mat rolled about at night, there are rooms that have beds if you have a bad back. “It you have a bad back request a bed, or do as I did and use a couple of mats, which makes it much softer own the floor. Public bathing in the nude is not usual in our culture and there are bathing rules, sit down to wash before entering the bath, do not dip your towel in the bath or take soap or shampoo into the bath. These baths are to relax and talk and they are gender segregated”
