Seriously, this is just a amazing Japanese experience, everything is beautiful and well organized, it's what i feel like a 5star Japanese hotel is, you have to follow the rules of the culture and you just feel in peace with nature in the onsen, the hotel itself is beautiful, the staff is very nice, the food is so wonderful, i... My husband and I stayed here for one night on our 2-week holiday to Japan, and it was without a doubt one of the highlights. As soon as you set foot through the door, the staff treat you like royalty. We arrived on a cool crisp day, and the reception was warm, with lovely fires burning and we were treated... More

The most scenic natural hot tubs in the middle of the alps that I've seen. Just by the river, in the middle of the snow until June. And Incredible traditional food (kaiseki style) for breakfast and dinner. 3 Michelin stars equivalent. Easily reachable in public transportation from Takayama or Matsumoto. Take the bus from Takayama to Hirayu and then change... More

This was the first Ryokan we visited during our trip to Japan and we found our stay simply amazing. The Ryokan is located in Fukuchi Onsen, a quiet and small village surrounded by Japan Alps and is perfect for a day or two of complete relaxation. There are nice outdoor and indoor hot springs, located in different areas of the... More

Soen Ryokan. This ryokan is in the Fukuji Onsen area of Takayama-Shi. It's not easy to find online, but it is well worth the experience. You will discover this is the true Japanese onsen experience. The staff are excellent and very experienced. Checking-in late in the afternoon, one can enjoy hot baths overlooking the lovely gardens. I imagine this would... More

It was very beautiful places surround by mountains. I visited in January, so very very deep snow, which also gave a fantastic view. Also, it's very quiet and peaceful place - good for meditation and relaxing. Staff are also very friendly. The quality of hotspring was also very good. It's highly recomended if one wants to enjoy quiet and peaceful... More

This is a traditional Japanese ryokan deep in the country side. We paid about US$600 per day for a couple with one child, inclusive of breakfast and dinner. So it is not cheap. While the setting is beautiful (especially in winter), quality of service was below what we would expect from Japanese ryokans at this price point. Some examples: -... More

Also called Fukuji Soen by some agents. First, this lovely onsen ryokan is not in Takayama town or even close to it. It's an hour by bus away in the beautiful Fukuji Onsen village in the Okuhida/Hirayu area. Snowfalls are deep and very beautiful but this also means that (apart from doing a stunning half day trip up the Shin... More

It's a very well managed authentic onsen(hot spring) japanese style resort. In winter, okuhida area has heavy snow, which gives the stay even more charming! Hotel is a 100 years old house, with japanese oven indoors. It takes you back to old times immediatly when you enter. Our flight delayed, which maked us predicting arrival the resort at 9pm. Usually... More
