We were lucky to be able to book this place at the last minute and stay one night (Off-Peak Days without meal for 4,000yen per person/Main Building-Western style room) and our stay turned out perfect!! Hope my reviews will help you: 1. This spa/hotel was just next to the Hirayu-Onsen bus center. Walked 3 min only! Make sure you buy...

The outdoor onsens were very good but the private one was very dark & grim. The change room facilities like the rest of the hotel was very old but clean. The accomodation (very hard 'bunk' bed, sink and private bathroom) was very spartan/austere and the two meals were simple but acceptable. The room looked out onto the garden which was...

This is a great hotel in the Hirayu mountain area. The onsen, is a superb experience for all of us. Most of us are first timer to be naked in the onsen, a natural hot springs bath. The dinner, a Japanese style dinner is really awesome and great experience of Hida beef for some of us. It was -1 C,...

Initially we decided to stay at kamikochi but the accommodations there are pricier. Since Hirayu is only 30 minutes away from Kamikochi, we decided to stay here. Hirayu no Mori is just situated a short walk away from the bus station (which you can catch the bus to kamikochi/takayama). Hirayu no mori has 4 different types of rooms and we...

I've stayed here twice in two years. Once in a cottage with private bath and once in the main building with a shared bathroom. The hotel is older but is well maintained and clean. The hot springs are numerous and nice and hot. There are also two private hot springs available on a first come first served basis. The food...

We stayed at a nearby hotel in Hirayu Onsen but chose to eat at Mominoki restaurant in Hirayu no Mori ryokan on a couple of occasions while in town. Located along a series a passageways at the back of the ryokan, Mominoki has an extensive menu and a nice outlook looking at some greenery. All the meals we tried were...

We chose this attractive onsen amid the hills and mountains as a day trip from Takayama, taking a bus that took about an hour. The bus station itself is almost nextdoor but, once inside the onsen, you'd never know it. The property is set in grounds full of trees, shrubs and streams. It's a real warren of a place but...

We decided to stay at Hirayu Onsen since the town is only 30 minutes from Kamikochi, where we planned to spend a day exploring and hiking. We arrived in town on the Nohi bus from Takayama and dropped off our bags with the front desk. Although it was too early to check in, they were happy to help us. The...

This is a Japanese style hotel. Since we were all senior citizens we requested regular beds although I am sure that you could sleep on the floor if you would like to do that. The hotel served Japanese food. We were able to sample many different things which are typically served for a Japanese breakfast. We were out during the...

We visited this place for a whole day on onset relaxation. The many outdoor and indoor baths with various chemical make-up and temperatures were just sublime in the snow. There is a cafeteria and souvenir shop, but otherwise the place is quite spartan. Recommended.
