The hotel is well located on the banks of the Thu Bon River, immediately adjacent to the Hoang Dieu bridge which leads across to the main area of town, including the open market. The hotel was sufficient for our needs as we were only there for three nights. However, some aspects were disappointing, such as the breakfast, (especially if you do not get in early), the small safe in the room is not fixed to the wall, and our shower was in a bath and had to be hand-held. On the plus side, our room was fully air-conditioned and had a mini bar, the staff were very friendly, plus sun loungers and towels are available at the pool area, which overlooks the river. The hotel bar (The River Bar) is adjacent to the main entrance and we used it every night before heading into town.
We upgraded to a bungalow overlooking the river which was better than the previous room we had booked. We still had a mouse dropping under the dresser that stayed there for the two days we stayed. Great location, ok breakfast but had a power cut that lasted until the morning. At least they had their own generator. Pool towels were like handkerchiefs and room towels were thin and grey.
We chose this spot as everything in the old quarter was very expensive. What you pay for I felt you got much more! It is literally over the bridge from the old quarter (a 2 min walk if that). The foot path on the bridge is 1 way- however was never an issue. The room was clean, and basic. The resort had a pool with a nice view of the river which looked great to enjoy in the summer (was cool while we were there). The morning complimentary breakfast was great! Would highly recommend this spot for a budget hotel in an excellent location!
Booked the bungalows during Lunar New year and it was spectacular. The location is perfect with breathtaking views, day and night. Staff were superb and always happy, considering it is their tet holiday. Clearly the resort is older than most and yet still nothing to complain about. If you want a modern style hotel then Pho Hoi Resort is not for you. Bungalows 605 to 608 are the go.
Surprisingly bad service, followed by worse. Ordered a main meal in the restaurant of king prawns with coconut milk rice. After a long wait 4 king prawns and 2 lettuce leaves arrived. We checked the menu to confirm we had not made a mistake and then asked the waiting staff where the rest of the meal was. They apologised and said the rice would now be cooked and in the meantime we should just eat the prawns. We recognise that mistakes happen and so slowly ate 2 of the prawns while waiting for the rest of the meal. It arrived a few minutes later. One taste was enough to confirm it was just plain rice. By now we realised there was no chance of having the meal we ordered from the menu, so we said that we would give up, pay for our drinks and go somewhere else. The staff said they could not allow that so I asked to speak to the manager. He asked I come back tomorrow for another meal, which I think would have been complimentary whilst I helped him with translations for the menu - but he insisted we pay for the meals, even though we had only started on them and were clearly leaving most. In the end we agreed to pay for most of the meal to avoid any potential escalation. So disappointing, mistake, after mistake, followed by an insistence we pay. Basil Fawlty would have been proud. …
