Well worth a stay. Not for those that like a conventional "hotel" with services but for for us it was lovely. Great welcome, lovely room, nice breakfast and perfect location. Do try it. Excellent recommendations on where to eat too.
La Posadita de la Plaza is not so much a B&B as it is a unique lodging experience. Owner/host Eduardo is a transplanted Brazilian one-time photographer who now pours all his creative energy into La Posadita and has turned what was once a small shop into a work of art and a labor of love. It’s crammed full with the stuff - no other description suffices - Eduardo has been collectiong since he was a kid. But it’s not just that. The place is cozy but comfortable, with a wonderful little garden offering a view out over the river. And best of all, Eduardo engages his guests in the kind of conversation that is just what travel is all about. We left feeling like we’d made a friend and learned in a very short time something about the heart and soul of Uruguay.
La posadita is a lovely small B&B located in the historic centre of Colonia. The B&B has an awesome and cool decoration, the room we stayed was spacious, spotless clean and very comfortable. The room offered air-con, fridge, safe and lots of storage space. The room we stayed faced the back of the property, and we had a lovely and quiet stay, being able to sleep till late. And the breakfast offered was also lovely. Its owner has gone to great lengths to make guests feel comfortable and enjoy their stay in town, he provided excellent recommendations for restaurants and bars, I probably had the nicest meal in Uruguay there. I cannot recommend this place enough, this was the best stay we had in our south american trip.
I have perhaps stayed in over 500 hotels round the world and this place I would place in my top 5. Excellent value, excellent position, wonderful breakfast but most of all ......different! The owner has shared with us his wonderful collection of photographs and artifacts he has collected over the years. It was a joy to stay there!
I had an overnight stay here in Colonia and really loved this place - close to being my favorite accommodation on this trip to South America. The place is, as noted by others decked out in all sorts of memorabilia / art and I wondered to myself wandering around what stories there must be about the collection. The room is spacious and clean - decoration is like the rest, full of memorabilia and is different to your stock standard hotel. Bed was comfy, bathroom was very good. Breakie was fantastic - and was made available to me a little earlier than usual because I was catching the early ferry. I didn't get to meet Eduardo, but his lovely assistant looked after me well - she didn't speak much english and my spanish is terrible, so we made do with google translate which was fine. There are specific opening hours and it didn't occur to me to check whether an arrangement could be made for an earlier opening as I arrived on the morning ferry. I stored my bags elsewhere until opening but I was annoyed with myself for not thinking ahead (don't make the same mistake if arriving outside those opening hours!). This place is located in the centre of the old town so is close to all of the Colonia sights and some good restaurants. The hand drawn map is a ripper too!…
