We were greeted by our host and chef Federico. A few hours earlier, when I made the reservation, he got in touch and offered a few choices of dishes, so we could pick ahead. The concept is Farm to Table, therefore fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The meal was outstanding, as were the drinks and of course the service. The small lodge is very tasteful, located on the river bank. Will return for a weekend stay!

We arrived here by vehicle from Montevideo. Having gone past Colonia you then turn off the tarmac and on to tracks (which were pretty smooth). You then arrive a a very unpretentious gate to enter the property which is in effect part of the garden. We were warmly greeted by the owner and shown to our room. We had the master suite. This is accessed up stairs so may not be suitable for all. It has a bedroom with a very large bed, a lounge with sofa and chairs. A bathroom with a shower. As I recall the owner is a former engineer and prides in some of the items such as the TV hidden in the cabinet at the end of the bed. The bedroom and lounge have large windows which have sliding screens to keep the sun out at certain times of day. There is sliding door from the lounge out on to a large wooden deck. This has two wooden sun loungers and a hot tub. Beneath is another deck area with the swimming pool. The view is over the gardens, and trees in the swamp area to the River Plate. A few tall buildings in Buenos Aries can just be seen. There is an observation tower in the grounds. There is a track down to the "Beach", this is fresh water not the sea. The service received was exemplary and nothing was too much trouble. The whole place is run for the comfort and enjoyment of guests. There area activities including a trip in to Colonia but we just were totally content to spend our time relaxing and enjoying the views and bird life. Within the building there is a lounge with books and games if you need them, there is a more open indoor seating area near the pool which also adjoins the restaurant. The owner has 3 dogs, we met 2 and they were very friendly. Also a couple of cats which we did not see. The name includes the word "Gourmet" and this is certainly the case. All meals are prepared to order and the owner gives his suggestions but if there is something you do not like an instant alternative is made available. Highlights include the Beach BBQ to watch the sunset and the Uruguay indoor BBQ. Portions are quite large but they will adapt to your requirements. During the day there are offers of drinks, both non alcoholic and alcoholic, The memory of standing on the deck looking over to the River Plate, glass of red wine, loads of birds will stay with me for ever. Anyone going anywhere near must go here. Just splendid.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Marcelo, the owner. He was warm and welcoming. The accommodations were fabulous. Everything was clean and of exceptional quality. The private chef was at our disposal. He masterfully prepared a variety of dishes, baked fresh bread and croissants each day and tailored each dish to our desires. The private beach was less than 100 yards where we were served lunch and an incredible dinner. As we prepared to depart we realized we were genuinely sad to leave such a spectacular place with amazing hospitality 💕 Thank you Marcelo, Miri, Federico, and Miriam! We were nearby Colonia del Sacramento and we found out Rio Ancho to have lunch. The place is simply amazing, dreamy, its a place were you breath peace and ease. Deborah invited us with a refreshment and gave us a tour of the house, each room invited us to stay. When we arrived to the dinning room we chosen the three steps lunch, and both options, so we could taste everything. I have to say that each dish was tasty, well served, and every detail was taken into consideration. This lunch was the best experience of the weekend. I want to go back and this time stay in one of the rooms.

There are too many things to say about this amazing place, but the best word that simply describes it is PARADISE. Not only does it has the best food, everything curated in detail, with the best flavors from the season and a treat to the eye as well. The service from the hotel is the best, is like being at home, like they know everything you like, exactly the way you like it and treat you like a member of a family. The Owners, Miri and Marcelo are present in every single detail, and you can see that too throghout the hotel. It's beautiful from every angle and every corner, full of love and magic, and whoever goes there will leave wanting to come back!

My girlfriend gave me a romantic new year surprise trip and took me to this amazing place. Upon arrival I was stunned by its simplicity, authenticity and good taste. The place is simultaneously rustic and state of the art. We stayed at the biggest of only three rooms: La serena. It's ample, comfortable and cozy, and a terrace overlooks the long and heated pool. But what struck me the most was the thorough attention to detail that owners marcelo and miri and the rest of the staff have. They remember your preferences and even suggest ideas to make your stay better than even you fathomed. 7:30pm was sunset time at the river, just a few steps away from the property. The beach is small and private, and the staff brings lounge chairs and prepare amazing natural snacks and drinks. Which brings me to my next highlight: the food. Star chef Patricia delighted us with meal after meal of her specialties, from chestnut gnocchi to broccoli soufflé to lamb so tender you didn't need a fork. They'd asked in advance whether we had any food impediments and catered accordingly. Outstanding and natural food. We stayed for only three nights, but it was one of those experiences where you go "I could live like this, you know". We'll definitely return sometime soon. Seba and Pao

There are too many places to start with rio ancho - food, service, room - but I will start with what matters to us which is the magic - the magic is Marcelo and his family who make you feel like guests in their home - the magic is an evening swim in the rio plata followed by sunset cocktails on the beach around a fire talking about whatever - the magic is a hidden drench shower in the trees - the magic is chatting to Patricia the chef about what you will eat tonite Besides that the rooms are lovely, the beds are great, the house is a mid-century modern dream, the gardens are lush. The food is amazing. The drinks lush. The location perfect. If you want to relax amongst friends this is the place. Sit back, engage, enjoy!

Excellent food - justifies description as gourmet lodge. We spent an long weekend and everything was spot on perfect. The food is absolutely superb, the young chef is widely travelled and experienced in Michelin starred establishments in France, as well as elsewhere in Europe.
