We just wrapped up our stay at Carmelo. My husband and I visited with our seven month old baby. At first we had some minor difficulties locating the property (Google Maps has this property in the wrong location in Carmelo, be forewarned) and with our room upon check-in, however the tram at Carmelo went well above and beyond to ensure that our experience met our expectations. Sebastián, the general manager, in particular was exceedingly helpful. We stayed in a duplex and the rooms are very large. The bedroom and bathroom were excellent, while the furniture in the living room was totally acceptable albeit somewhat dated. The lobby and property itself is stunning. March was an interesting time to go as the property was fairly empty. The two days that we were there we were the only people at the pool. You almost feel like you’re at summer camp or in a lodge in the mountains while on the property. We would certainly come back. We visited other hotels and B&Bs in the area for lunch or dinner, and every time we left I was SO thankful that we chose to stay at Carmelo and not one of the other properties that all appeared a bit run down. A couple areas of improvement: - the food was not good at Carmelo or Narbona. We couldn’t finish our meals. They are using US prices, so the meals were expensive and mediocre. Better option are to try some local restaurants. Basta Pedro was our favorite. Overall we found the food in Uruguay to be fairly poor, but this restaurant was reasonable. So if you are t going to love the meals, at least make sure you aren’t paying $25 per plate and have a bad meal at $5 per plate :). - the lobby of the hotel is beautiful and grand. Some music in the lobby could really make it even better. - a fire in the fireplace would also really add to the character. Seriously the lobby would double in grandeur with music and a fire going. It would be grand. All in all, I’m picky with hotels and I was very satisfied here. The rooms are large and only a little dated, but that is made up for by the pools, lobby, and other facilities. The staff are excellent. This is the best option in Carmelo.

I was organizing a 80's birthday celebration during Carnival Season and It was amazing. Some special people need to be highlighted: Ana (group coordinatior), Mariana (sales director), Palo (food and beverage), Julio (chef), Sebastian (general director) and Lucía and front desk team.

If you are in Montevideo, this hotel is about a 3 hour drive from the city. More people come from Buenos Aires because it is just across the river by ferry and then an hour drive. We arranged a car service from Montevideo with Lucia and Belen who took care of us every day. This property is in the middle of a vineyard. The grapes are harvested for the nearby Narbona winery - which is worth a visit on it's own. The rooms are very large and many are two stories. They are almost a townhouse size. Our room faced the vineyard and the water beyond. The pool is enormous and the staff take care of you. There is a pool bar and restaurant. Lucia and Jesus looked after us every day. At the front desk, Belen and Lucia arranged wine tours for us to nearby vineyards. In the main restaurant, Noel, Matias and Luis made sure everything was great. I want to compliment the chef particularly. He knew we were staying for more than a week. He made a new egg dish for me every day. Where else would that happen? I was asked each morning if I wanted to try a new dish and it was always delicious. Personal service at this hotel was fabulous. We would go back in a heartbeat.

This is a perfect place if you are looking for a short, quiet, first-class experience. We went to Punta del Este during our first trip to Uruguay ... we loved it, but it’s ideal for a longer stay and plenty of action. Carmelo Resort is easy to get to ... we took the ferry from BA, and the hotel picked us up for the one-hour drive. The pool setting is serene and fantastic. Don’t bother with what they refer to as a beach, as it’s not a good setting and the three chaises there are worn. The gym and rooms are nice. There are bikes to use. There’s a daily yoga class and cooking class. We went to Pura for dinner one night in the hotel ... good, though empty. Narbona is owned by the same people, so there’s a free shuttle, and it’s quite good. We went to Basta Pedro nearby for our third dinner ... fun and more casual (the hotel took us there and back). Enjoy!

Food is terrible, terrible, terrible and there’s no service at all - get your own towels at the pool, get your own drinks at meals and by pool, no one picking up towels or empty glasses at the pool. Resort overall is dated and I dare say our room was dangerous with stairs very close to the bed. The setting was beautiful but that’s absolutely all this place has. We were so ready to get out of here and I can’t believe how much we paid.
