See you soon Daffodil!
Can't wait to go home this time. We've come to Fethiye every year for 14 years and never had such a disastrous stay.
The room was horrible, in the upper roof, you hit your head constantly, all the time!
The staff was so bad they didn't even want to order a taxi for us,
call yourself was their answer. They didnt even say Good Morning!
Location: Situated just across a narrow road from the pretty Bay of Fethiye. The road is quiet, although it was October so could get busier in peak season. It's a 10 min scenic walk overlooking the bay & marina to the main centre of Fethiye therefore the Daffodil is well away from the main town traffic. The walk is well lit, but you can always get the local Dolmus which passes just outside. There are a couple of mini markets 2 minute walk away and the restaurants are mostly in the centre.
Room: Lucky enough to get a quiet, light & airy double room overlooking the pool & pine clad mountains at the back of the hotel (1st floor - room 302 or 303). The rooms on the ground floor (situated at the side of the hotel & at the back couryard) although appear a little dark, have their own patio areas. The rooms on the 1st floor have double doors to a very small balcony which is not big enough to sit out on, but have table & chairs tucked just inside the room. Rooms at the front have a fabulous view of the bay but may be affected by road/Dolmus noise. Our room was very clean, had sat TV (which we never used), air con (payable extra). The bedding was changed twice weekly but freshly made every day with clean towels & plenty of loo roll!
Pool: Small clean pool with wooden loungers, umbrellas & cushions. (If you want to find a bigger pool it's useful to note that nearby hotels charge non-residents for use of the pool/sunbeds).
Breakfast: Traditional - eggs, cheese, cold meats, bread, fruit, juice, honey.
Hospitality: Thought the owner looked like Shaun Connery! Very happy/friendly. Staff very friendly & hard working.
Extras: There's no restaurant/dinner menu at the Daffodil as such, but the owner will gladly arrange for fresh fish to be delivered to the hotel where he will cook/bbq it especially for his guests. It feels very exclusive so just have a word/tell him what you want and he'll sort it! We had huge 4 course dinner which inc octopus mezes, big juicy prawns & fresh squid skewers, mirror fish served & deboned at our table. It felt very special and was served by candlelight on the breakfast terrace overlooking the bay - we felt like king and queen! This obviously comes with a price and we paid £25 per head, which is pricey for Turkey but back home would have been double. Best thing is to fix the price when you order. Another exclusive is that you can hire his posh boat. He will take you and a couple of other select hotel guests out on an island tour and throw in a fresh fish lunch. For this personal touch there's a price of £20-£35 each depending on his generous mood! There's plenty of great cheap and cheerful boat trips available at the harbour for as little £6. (We went for the cheap option!!)
Beach: No beaches in Fethiye, hence reason why hotel quiet as not your traditional family beach holiday. Mainly a fishing harbour & yacht marina, so there's plenty of boats offering cheap day trips & a water taxi service to Calis beach. Olu Deniz beach is by far the best & is a 30 min dolmus ride.
Cost: £150 each - Thomas Cook - Transfer: 1hr
About us: Couple aged 30 wanting to get away from our busy work/hectic social life and spend quality time!
Final comment: Must not forget that this is only a 2* hotel, so forget it if you're expecting 5* luxury! It's basic with a twist of style, clean and quiet. The guests (mainly German & British) are people who want to whisper to one another and respect the other hotel guests. If you are naturally noisy and like singing Show me the Way to Amarillo on the Karaoke whilst your kids run riot round the pool, then the Daffodil is not for you!
We did refuse to pay at first but feeling that perhaps this was just the way hotels in Turkey charge and not wishing to get the staff in any trouble we paid for the extra day that we had not stayed for. To add insult to injury they then started to convert the price they charged from a rate set in US$ to Turkish Lira. Needless to say the rate they chose put us at even more of a financial loss.
I have since learnt that this is not the Turkish way to charge, only a rip-off hotel way of charging. I have attempted to contact the hotel owner, Huseyin, to resolve this situation since our return, but he has ignored all attempts at contact. He obviously holds his customers in very low regard and is probably rubbing his hands together waiting for the next sucker to come along.
For anyone reading this, I advise you to visit Fethiye, as the place and the people are truly wonderful, however do not stay at this hotel as it left us out of pocket and spoilt our last day in Turkey, and I wonder what other scams they have waiting to spring on their unsuspecting holidaying guests.
This was a highly embarrassing situation that I would not want to be repeated on anyone.
Villa Daffodil is renovated with taste and if you are lucky to get a room at the back of the property, around the pool area you will enjoy,
maybe, your vacation there. If you get the "best" rooms acording with hotel's staff, in top off their restaurant (where the music is played up to one in the night) the picture is completly different.
The Hotel is placed very closed to a bussy road, the noise in the front rooms is to be taken seriously.
The personal displayed an overfrendly atitude as long as they are not asked to resolve some of the inconveniences. When faced with a request, we had been "unfrendly" invited to change the hotel
(booked long in advance from Canada) if we do not like their conditions. We did and we had a wonderful time after "Daffodil experience"!
It was in three weeks holiday in Turkey the only place where we had been face with arogance.
Turkey is a splendid destination, a dream for a vacation in spite off our experience at Hotel Daffodil.
