Travelers' Choice
Ancient Smyrna, the pearl of the Aegean.. 8500 years of history, witness of different religions & civilizations. The west end of the silk road.. all together in one place; IZMIR After the second half of the 19th century, with the building of the first railway in Turkey, the hotel culture started to take shape in İzmir city. Basmane & Çankaya were the first locations in case of a hotel need. One of these hotels was Işık Hotel, who served since 1965, and was a bit tired. In April 2017 our management took over, did a massive renovation and changed completely the concept with a modern aspect. We tried to keep the old and the new, and gave a minimalist and comfortable look to the inside of the hotel. Our furniture’s, beds, bathrooms, and breakfast room are different of classical hotel rooms. With our new design and the colors we used, we invite you to live this experience with us.

This hotel significantly outshines its peers and provides great value for money. The staff are very polite and helpful. The rooms have air conditioning, are disinfected consistently (against Covid-19) and are very clean overall. The general atmosphere is welcoming and good looking (especially when compared to other hotels in the same range). The breakfast open-buffet is also tasty. I'd definitely recommend you stay here wether you're a solo-backpacker or a family visiting Izmir for a short time.

The staff here are very friendly and helpful. I was trying to find somewhere to park so drove past the hotel twice. One of the staff saw me and came out to park the car for me. When I checked in, another staff member took my bags upstairs and showed me around. There’s a kitchen/ social area on the first floor which is nice. The rooms themselves are basic but clean and efficient and the bathroom has a lovely shower. The price is excellent. The bathroom sink was located in the room, which I hate this as I find it so unhygienic. There is a fair bit of road/ street noise and the curtains barely cover the windows meaning light comes in. However my biggest issue was how poorly soundproofed the rooms are. I had constant noise from the social area/ corridors all night. An alarm started going off at 2am in reception and didn’t stop for a long time, meaning I never got back to sleep. All this meant I was more than ready to leave. Unless the rooms are soundproofed with better fitting doors, I wouldn’t return. I think if they rebranded as a hostel and sorted the sound issues, it could be really successful.

Dear Matt, Thank you your review, and all your comments. We will immediately check the door of the room you stayed, and of course the curtains, as we have normally black out curtains, but we beleive housekeeping has mixed them up with another room. The doors change in the entire hotel was in our project this year. unfortunately because of the pandemic, and having closed our door for 3 months, everything is uncertain. Believe we are always taking under consideration all comments and doing every year changes depending on them. Yours will also be taken under consideration. hopefully to see you soon again.

We booked this hotel the last minute. The staff was very helpful and always had a nice smile on. The rooms were clean, little small but not big of a deal. I think the only bad review I have to give is the bed. It made lots of noise with the tiniest movement. I had a hard time to sleep trying not to move at all. Other than that, they have taken the necessary COVID measurements, maybe thats why the kitchen (breakfast) looks slightly different than on the pics but it was yummmmyyyy

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for your precious comments. We are very glad to have met your needs. And yes, we had to change the type of open buffet breakfast, that no guest touches the food except his plate. This is why we have the breakfast served by our chef. All for your health.. Have a wonderfull day

The staff is awesome, they gave us free upgrade for both room that we reserved. If you don’t mind absence of elevator ( I think it’s 4 or 5 storey building ) and don’t mind walking 7-8 min to the city’s attraction points and don’t mind not having unnecessary luxury stuff in your room, then you have already found your place. Before I booked, I compared all hotels with high points in the city center and guess what? It was in 3rd place after 5 - star hotels. This concept hotel recently renovated with all essential needs in the room, pretty clean, free WiFi with a meaningful password for Turks :) Nice breakfast. Also they help me with printing out my documents. If you are lucky enough, there will be a parking spot for your car in front of the hotel.

Dear Guest, First of all sorry for the late answer, as in the Pandemic period we closed the hotel (as almost all others in the city) for about 3 months, and have re-opened again on 12 June 2020. We are back again with all safety and hygenic precautions, even after the opening we have received the Orange Circle Hygiene certificate, one of the first in all Izmir city. We will be very pleased to have you back again. Thank you for your wonderfull comments

This is a small hotel in the central area of Izmir. Everything is decorated in creative piano-like style with a staircase like a piano keyboard and everything else is decorated in a very creative manner. Breakfast is quite abundant with nice tableware. Reception team is polite and speak fair English. Pricing policy is transparent, which is not the case in the most of Turkish hotels. We took the economy-class room, which was quite small, but still comfortable. So it's a good place to stay in Izmir, especially for those who like boutique hotels with a cozy creative-style.
