The Duru is more than 100 years old. It feels like a place out of the distant past. The view of rising balloons, breathtaking panoramas can not be beat in avanos. The rooms are more than quaint. They are quirky. There was a small cicular window in the corner of the room that overlooked an arched passage. The historic society will not let it be removed. It just adds to the wondrous charm. The bathroom is sufficient but not up to some folks expectations. The view from the breakfast room was spectacular. The buffet was immense. There were as many as six cheese options. There was hot water for tea or coffee. There was no attempt to offer water or juice. The bread was very fresh and the olives were so tasty. Yes, there is a steep drive up to the Duru. That explains the amazing views. The town center is an easy stroll down the hill. there are many choices for food and shopping. I hope to visit this quirky place again. It fits with the ancient history and unusual geology in the region. And it is a great value.

Room Tip: Make sure that you get a room with a view. The hill can be challenging in the winter.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Duru. The sweeping views of Cappadoccia are amazing especially when the hot air balloons are flying. It is just up the hill from plenty of shops and restaurants. The breakfasts in the morning are perfect.

I advice any international student or traveller willing to visit Cappadocia to go to Duru hotel: it is in a very relaxing area, even though quite hard to reach (top of a hill). Nice rooms, nice beds and superb view: approved!
