El Borj Hotel is often celebrated for its immaculate cleanliness and well-kept rooms, with effective air conditioning that many guests appreciate, although a few report the beds and pillows could be more comfortable. The staff's friendliness and professionalism consistently earn high marks, enhancing guest experiences. While the hotel's amenities, including the stunning pool, beach access, diverse dining, and entertainment, are popular highlights, some minor issues with in-room fridges are noted. Despite occasional comments on monotonous music and a less lively atmosphere, the value and enjoyable excursions offered are widely praised for their affordability.

Despite what some of the reviews told us about the treatment of English guests, this was absolutely not the case. I was anxious upon arrival but there was no need to be, we have had the BEST week in Tunisia.
We could not fault a single member of staff at El Borj. They are all so welcoming and friendly and make the effort to try and help with any language barriers. The room in the hotel was clean, well air-conditioned and we had a lovely balcony to dry our things after being in the pool/sea.
The cleaners did a brilliant job every day at making up the rooms (they do not charge for changing bath towels despite what some reviews say, only beach ones that are hired).
The animation team are lovely. They do encourage you to join in the water and poolside activities but also accept if you would rather just watch/relax instead.
All the waiters at the restaurant are kind and make sure everybody has water as soon as they sit down. The food is really good quality and different each day. There is a variety of dishes including traditional Tunisian meals, pasta/rice/potato/bread, meat, cheese etc. Something for everybody. The desserts are also lovely and all the food is well-presented.
We took part in jet skiing, a camel ride and a dolphin spotting trip, all organised by representatives at the hotel. They are reasonably priced, a lot of fun and all the staff are funny and make sure you are enjoying yourself. They even took some photos on our phones for us which was really kind.
The pool, bar, private beach and reception areas are all well-maintained, there are always staff around to help and we felt completely safe and looked after all week. We would 100% recommend El Borj to anybody wanting to spend their holiday in Mahdia.
Thank you all for an amazing experience.

I am on holiday in El Borj with my husband and children aged 10 and 12. We arrived on Monday and will be home in 3 days. Before leaving I made the mistake of reading the latest reviews, almost all of which were negative, but luckily as soon as I arrived I changed my mind: enchanting place and splendid holiday so far. The sea was rough the first few days, so we chose sunbeds on the lawn near the pool, a well-kept lawn with plenty of space between the umbrellas (on the beach the umbrellas are very close together), so we decided to stay on the lawn every day . The children have a lot of fun in the swimming pool, which is well maintained and very beautiful. Every now and then we take a dip in the sea, which is still a few steps from the place we have chosen for our sunbeds.
Let's move on to the rooms, a little dated but clean and comfortable. We stayed in a connecting room, therefore a room for the children with an extra bed, and a room for us parents. With this solution there are 2 bathrooms, therefore very convenient especially for the pre-dinner shower of all 4.
Speaking of dinner, I was very worried about the terrible reviews on the cuisine, but instead we were very satisfied. My son, very selective in his food, always found something to eat and, given the variety, tried to try new things. I don't understand those who complain about the lack of variety and quality, perhaps they forget that we are in Tunisia (precisely because we are on another continent, I definitely avoided the famous pasta corner with the Italian chef, so I can't make any judgements). The staff at the bar and in general at the facility have always been very friendly so far. The cocktails are not very good, but since they are included in the price they are more than fine. A final, very positive note goes to all the entertainers, very nice and never intrusive, and to Emna who is always very kind and helpful. Very happy to have chosen El Borj

We arrived around midnight at the hotel. The welcome by the receptionist was very cordial. A snack was provided for our late arrival. Our room on the ground floor, very functional, large twin beds, comfortable with pillows. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and the pressure is good. Cleaning is done every day with little touches like flowers. The breakfast is very varied and good. A small terrace opens onto the outside with a small drying rack for laundry. We took the all-inclusive formula and the meals were very good and varied, several varieties of pizza, as well as pasta cooked to order, traditional dishes with little pigmentation. The drinks served at the bar are nice, apart from the beer served from a can, not too much taste, I prefer draft beer, but it was not available. Mint tea is offered after meals by a waiter in traditional clothing, for a fee (4 dinars). Lots of entertainment around the pool, the entertainers give their all and are very friendly. Being a non-smoker, we suffered a little from cigarette smells. Changes are made directly at the Hotel reception. To go to the Mahdia medina or visit the city, ask at reception, they will call you a taxi which will pick you up directly in front of the hotel. The journey costs 10 dinars for the outward journey and the same for the return. You can book once during your stay at the themed restaurant "Le Neptune". Wi-Fi works well in every corner of the hotel. The swimming pool is large, and there are stairs to go down to it. Access to the beach is direct, deckchairs are available for everyone, the water is clear and clean and to cool off, the beach bar is nearby. We had a very good stay, all the hotel staff are very friendly and attentive. We have no regrets and highly recommend this hotel.

Regardless of the tour operator used it is the structure that is bad. Safe deposit box for a fee.... ridiculous, but worse still fridge in the room for a fee (so not even the ability to refresh the water to drink in a place where temperatures exceed 40 degrees).... shameful. Beach towels with deposit and so far I understand, but the change for a fee for washing.... no comment ! Back in Italy with departure from the hotel at 6 pm and room to be vacated at 12 pm they did not leave the room even for a fee.... yet on the day of arrival we arrived just before 11 pm.... and at the same time new customers will arrive on the same flight that we are going to take to return to Italy so there would be plenty of time to redo the rooms.
To add the rudeness to tell us at the last moment despite having made a request from 2 days before departure.
As for eating: bread always old, remaining products, proposed in other formats increasingly disgusting. Not to mention the à la carte restaurant served to which customers, fortunately, can only go once a week, it is strongly recommended not to take advantage of even that one occasion!
Water to drink often and willingly warm to both glass and bottled dispensers.
In the room air conditioning that does not condition.
An indication to Tour operators.... LEAVE THIS FACILITY or you will be complicit in this crap and negligence.

Just returned from 10 days here, first the good points. Rooms are very nice, the whole hotel is very clean the pool area is lovely, the beach is very nice except for the jelly fish that appeared on day 7 so we stuck to the pool then. The air con in the rooms is very good and you don't need to use to door key for the electric to work so you can leave it on low for when you get back. The hotel animation team are brilliant and very friendly. Food is OK but not very warm sometimes some strange offerings but we found something that we could eat every time. Now the not so good bits. This hotel is mostly full of Italians they have their own entertainment team, most of who look down their nose at you after looking to see what colour wristband you are wearing and ignore you. The Italian company Bravo have also put a chef in the restaurant where he seems to be in charge of the pasta bar. The hotel staff are not really fussed they just plod along while a manager of some sort rushes round having a go at some of them while creeping up to the italians. The first couple of days at dinner the tables were nicely set with proper napkins then they changed to paper napkins and didn't bother resetting the tables once they had been used. One day I asked one to reset it and he told me to sit somewhere else and pointed at a big table despite the fact there was only 2 of us. The bar waiters would occasionally ask if we wanted a drink then ignore you, most of the time there was only one person serving at the bar but a couple more just doing nothing so sometimes a queue. We had a nice holiday but wouldn't return as we have been to much better in tunisia

We have been to Tunisia many times at the 3 *** hotel and were tempted by the good reviews here.
The place is quite ok and clean. You get the feeling that the cleaning girls are mopping all day.
80% of the guests are Italians it gets accordingly very loud. You might think that you are on holiday in Italy and not Tunisia.
Dining room clean.
Salads and cakes were good.
Always eat the same. Always tough meat, fish and chicken breast sometimes shreddry or almost raw!!! Traditional dish was always the same.
Noodle station fine. Italian guests stand behind me and order their food while the chef serves the guest BEFORE me. There's no waiting to get to it. It's like that all over the hotel! Their children also behave like this.
All day you are sounded with loud music, whether you are lying by the pool or on the beach.
Air conditioning did not run although stated! Very hot in the room.
According to the hotel, it will only be put into operation from 15 June is probably the case throughout Tunis. Air conditioning is available without restrictions in the hotel description.
One bottle of water per room daily. No matter how many guests the room has. Each additional bottle is charged at 1.50€. Room cleaning daily as well as fresh towels. Maid very friendly.
Beach towels are available for a deposit, which can be waxed for a fee.
Very nice beach, plenty of loungers. But as mentioned above, the animation and music is very loud.
We're really not picky about who two things don't suit.
But some things didn't fit here!

I spent two weeks at the Hotel El Borj in Mahdia/Tunisia and can only report positive things!
Starting with the reception, who gave me a nice welcome on the day of my arrival and were always ready to give information.
The rooms are big enough and you can borrow a fridge on request. My room was very clean, as was the balcony. I can also say that you don't see any rubbish in the whole hotel, inside or outside. The staff and the manager are very attentive and pay very close attention to this.
The outside area in the whole hotel is very well maintained.
The staff are very nice and always attentive, whether in the dining room, the pool or the beach bar.
The selection of meals is very varied and the food is very tasty. There is enough seating in the dining room and on the large outdoor terrace with a view of the sea.
The pool is quite big and there are enough loungers with cushions and umbrellas as well as seating all around. On the beach, which is cleaned daily, there are also enough loungers with cushions and umbrellas. Music plays all day at the pool, which is provided by the Tunisian animation team, while the Italian team provides entertainment on the beach. If it's a bit too loud for you in the immediate vicinity, you can move away from the animation box or talk to them and the music will be turned down.
To get people to join in, the animators go around and ask who wants to join in. They are not pushy and accept a "no" without arguing.
The gymnastics are very good and the games are always funny. In general, the animation is great. Great guys and girls who are friendly all day. You can tell that everyone enjoys their job. The shows in the evening are entertaining and a nice way to end a great day.
The service staff are great and very attentive, whether in the dining room or at the bars.
All in all, it was my best vacation (I've been to Tunisia at least 30 times now) and I have a new favorite hotel!!!
But I also have to write something "negative". Mahdia itself is pretty, but my favorite cities are and will always be Monastir and Sousse. The Medina does have a very nice café, but it's not really suitable for "shopping."
You'll just have to take a train or taxi to Monastir or Sousse for just over an hour if you want to escape the peace and quiet of Mahdia.
Visually, Mahdia also has its charm.

We spent a week at the property. Very nice village and I would like to mention the fact that the sea is crystal clear when it is calm. You can see some fish not far from the shore.
Very good and varied buffet food including Italian, international and typical Tunisian food.
Cocktail not the top, depends on who made them on staff. The draft beer instead very good. Overall top village and would stay there tomorrow.
Instead, I would like to tell more about the MAGIC SOUTH excursion that involves a road trip to the Sahara desert. We booked through Bravo directly at the property. We paid 150€ each and, for everything you visit, they are absolutely worth the expense. We left on a Wednesday and came back the next night. First stop, visit the amphitheater of El Jam. Then, we descended southwards first touching coastal towns like Sfax and then we went inland, heading towards Matmata. This location is located within the rocky desert. Vibes Star Wars. Bellissimo. We ate in a typical Berber restaurant and visited a Berber thing where they served us Arabic bread made by them, to soak in honey and oil. All accompanied by the classic mint teino.
After this visit we reached Douz, a village at the gateway to the Sahara and where we stay for the night (4-star all-inclusive hotel and salt pool). Just before the gold hour we took who the quads and who the dromedaries and we went into the dunes. It was really beautiful. Second day wake up at 4 o'clock to see the sunrise of the salt desert. We then reached a nearby location and visited an oasis of date palms and other fruit plants. After the visit, we got on the 4x4s and they took us to see a rocky desert canyon and finally an oasis always nearby. The oasis among the rocks was the most suggestive part of the trip. We then returned to the village stopping in Karouan. A positive note also to the Guide who was able to make the trip even more beautiful and full of information.

Holiday top in every respect!

The village is not modern but offers all the entertainment with Roberto, the head animator who is a nice and kind guy. The food is varied, there are both local products and classic foods. The rooms are large and not well kept, mine for example had peeling walls, a stained toilet seat and a unstable sink. Beautiful sea, clean swimming pool. There are lifeguards who clean the mattress where you can sit on the deck chair. In short, a beautiful village with good entertainment, Italian cuisine by Chef Benedetto, a bit of maintenance is lacking not only in the rooms but also in the deckchairs which were broken and the mattresses to rest on. I advise

I'll try and be as thorough as I can!

General overview - We really enjoyed our stay here. I think some of the negative reviews are probably a bit harsh, yes the Bravo team are as ignorant as mentioned in other reviews, if you aren't Italian, you don't exist, but this really had little to no impact on us. The bar, restaurant, cleaning and ground maintenance staff are all great, literally couldn't do enough to help. As I said to some of the guests that were complaining whilst here, we paid less than £1000 for 10 days all inclusive, I honestly don't think we could get a better service or value for money!

So from the start

Transfer - I would highly recommend booking a private taxi for the transfer. We did and it was still a 1 hour 45 minute drive ( he wasn't hanging around either ) at a cost of £70 each way. As the hotel is quite a distance from the airport, there is a good chance the El Borj is the back end of the transfer schedule so could easily be looking at a 3 hour transfer if there are a lot of drop offs.

Arrival at hotel - we arrived at the hotel at around 23:30, check in was quick and easy, we were greeted with drinks and a plate of food was brought to our room.

Rooms - The rooms are on the dated side however they were a very decent size and spotlessly clean. Good air con that can be left on all day, good strong shower and big bathroom. The only down side I had about the room is the mattress. I struggled with that the entire time.

Pool - The pool is faultless. Plenty of beds, front row did tend to get reserved by 07:30. The area around the pool is looked after through the day and is kept really tidy.

Beach - The beach is literally a 30 second walk from the pool, again, plenty of beds and the El Borj section of the beach is very well kept. We did venture along the beach a few times and once out of the hotel section, we attracted a lot of people trying to sell us the usual tat. They DO NOT take no for an answer so although rude, we just ignored them and they still followed us. No fault of the hotel but this was really off putting.

Food & Drink - Only the one local beer on tap but honestly it was fine. Worth taking your own thermos cup as the bar only serves in half pint plastic glasses. They have the usual selection of spirits and soft drinks along with fruit juices and slushies.
Breakfast served from 07:00 until 10:00, definitely recommend the freshly made omlettes. Loads of other choices from cereal and fresh fruit to salad and hams.

Outside of the hotel - There really isn't a massive amount however there are a few mini markets and a handful of restaurants and bars. Mahdia old town is 10 minutes away by taxi at a cost of 10 dinar each way ( £2.30 ). Friday at the old town is market day, quite an experience. We found a lovely cafè on the side of the hill overlooking the sea.

So that's it. I certainly wouldn't be put off by some of the reviews I have seen on here. I am incredibly fussy with hotels and I would have no hesitation in coming back here.
