Yes a cheap out of season AI holiday, I got what I paid for and would NOT return. Good points: Beautiful Beach, this made my holiday and if not for the beach and pool area I would have given a lower rating. Quiet when I went as it was just before it was shutting down for the season which suited me. Met some lovely guests. Never had to queue at bar, I had no problem with the alcohol drinks, always had what I wanted. Had water, tea and coffee station until late. enjoyed the cats and kittens and fed them daily. Bad Points: No air conditioning. Rooms very basic but kept clean and beds made and towels changed daily. I was a bit worried about eating the food, the freshly cooked food was always okay and mostly covered up, the food stations i.e salad bar, breads and puddings always seemed to have flies on it which put me off. I was not informed of beach towel policy so unfortunately could not make use of it. If you are not in a couple you get harassed by some waiters and some staff (not all, some were very respectful). being polite, friendly and engaging seems to be a green light to some of them and they will constantly try and get you to go out to the extent where you would ask them to leave you alone, sometimes not so politely, this worked with some but not all, would be approached when dining and sitting around pool. There were also some really courteous hard working staff too, would like to point that out. Long distance from airport 1hr and 45mins

As a TA DE I always do my best to evaluate my contributions and reviews in a fair and apt way. Apologies for being a long read. This was a very cheap AI holiday. Our room was of a reasonable standard, everything worked, It was cleaned and towels, bedding changed daily ( if required ). The beds were very firm, which suited us and our dodgy backs.  The bathroom was fine with a powerful shower.  Shampoo and soap provided and a wall mounted hairdryer.  You pay to hire a room safe... though we knew this prior to arrival, along with the Tunisian tourist tax. You could also borrow beach towels for a fully refundable deposit. Food.  I don't bother with breakfast, so was happy with coffee, fruit, croissant and maybe a boiled egg. OH was fine with cooked to order omelet, tomatoes, fresh bread etc.  For lunch we usually had fresh fish...sardines were particularly good.  Grilled veggies...loved the padron style peppers!  Also on offer would be pasta, turkey/chicken, beef and Tunisian dishes. There was also a salad bar and rice. -Neither of which we eat whilst on holiday, as we try to avoid upset stomachs .  .  . And mustn't forget the chips, they were always very good, consensus was they were cooked in olive oil.  A large dessert selection (lunch and dinner) consisted of various cakes and puddings and an ice cream station. Dinner was similar but with a larger hot choice. We did have one "bad" meal though ..it looked like they'd cooked straight from the freezer, e.g., potato croquettes, fried fish. Not very inspiring. One evening we ate in The Neptune Restaurant; the food was the same as in the dining room. Though we had waiter service..... In our opinion not worth bothering with. Drinks. Rum was not available at the start of our stay. After a discussion with staff, white rum finally became available. Beer ran out in one of the bars for a couple of hours and white wine for a day...though rose and red available. Entertainment. The animation team did their best to engage with guests, putting on shows, karaoke and dancing. Stopping to chat to guests during the day and organising fitness and Petanque sessions. The music from the poolside speakers during the day could be annoyingly loud and the choice of music questionable.. Fortunately it was turned down if requested. The hotel was home to 3 extremely cute kittens and 3, possibly 4 adult cats. The adult cats would wait for scraps in the outside dining area and the kittens did come into the dining room, they also made themselves at home in the reception/lounge. For feral cats they were all very friendly.  Maybe they were de-flead prior to our arrival, as we weren't bitten at all. The problems/complaints voiced in recent reviews seem to stem from guests who arrived when the hotel was staffed by an Italian management team,  the hotel was run to a much higher standard in all aspects, and when they left, the standards consequently dropped. This understandably must have been very disappointing to those guests. We were can't comment on the "Italian" weeks.  However, we thought our whole stay was good value for money for a cheap end of season holiday. The only real gripe from us was the distance from NBE Airport, the transfer time is a long 1 hour 45 minutes. .....And the annoying man selling the mint tea !

We booked this resort because of the good reviews we read on this site. Wow how wrong we were for a start we were not told that there is a local tax that can be anything from £7-00 to £20-00 when you arrive. There are no refrigerators in the rooms unless you pay for the priveledge can’t use the safe in the room unless pay for it no water provided unless pay for it. There has been no brandy, rum behind the bar only can have if pay for it also no beer all day on occasion. The food is inedible and of bad quality always served cold no butter unless pay for it. My husband is disabled do not come here if you have any kind of mobility issue stairs and steps asked for a more user friendly room refused his problems completely ignored. The town of Mahdia is a taxi ride away and it is busy and dirty outside the hotel there is nothing to speak of oh just rubbish tips!!! Loud thumping music played all day so if want a relaxing time keep away.!

I don’t even know where to start. I booked this holiday on the back of the good reviews but what a shock. First night we have been kept awake till 4am due to music blaring from across the road we moved our room to the other side of the hotel next day to an announcement that air conditioning will be switched of in the hotel despite temperatures still in 30 degrees. We have to keep balcony doors open which resulted in numerous bites from mosquitoes which I have to treat with medication from local pharmacy. Having doors open you getting no sleep as the room faces main road with traffic and noise from shops. You have to pay for the water but then rooms don’t have fridge to keep it cool and if you want fridge you must pay! Same for safe in your room nothing is included in here. You have no chance getting G&T in here drinks are just a mixture of extremely sweet syrups with diluted alcohol. Hotel run out of beer few times as well. There are flies and cats everywhere. Cats are doing there business next to pool sun loungers and faeces been seen in main reception and pool areas during dinner ti Ed cats are absolutely everywhere in dinning areas begging for food . We have resorted to eat outside of the hotel as food was just questionable and guests were falling ill with tummy problems. I have mentioned the issues to the manager and quality assistant manager who are dismissive, rude and don’t want to know. They dont come up with any reasonable solutions to the guests problems. We have found out that Italian company Bravo was running this hotel during high season hence the good reviews but as soon as they exited the hotel everything gone downhill! This is true review of the hotel please don’t waste your money here! Go elsewhere!

Stayed here for a 2 week holiday with my partner. When we arrived we was met by a brilliant entertainment team who really do make the holiday. The rooms are basic but clean and are cleaned daily and the cleaners are very polite and let on every day. The food is your general all inclusive some days good some days not but you will always find something to eat. The drinks are your usual lager and local spirits and 3 cocktails bar staff are wonderful and friendly . Now back to the entertainment team what can I say....so much energy they can all converse in English with you which is a plus. There is a professional hip hop dancer a professional gymnast/circus entertainer just to name 2(biu and diaz). The whole holiday experience is made so much fun with them and we have made true friends as well. Come and try for yourselves well worth it 👌

2nd time returning to El Borj this year. Can see my first review back in May. Can't fault the hotel when we stayed. The staff can't do enough for you. I had a sore throat and one of the staff even helped me get some throat sweets from the local pharmacy. Even through it was coming to the end of season the animation team worked so hard to have something on for everyone. Im a fussy eater and found something to eat every meal: from turkey, beef, chicken, fish and a fresh pasta and pizza station. Hopefully be back next year. Keep up the hard work El borj
