Nestled near Hammamet's historic old town, Hôtel Royal Azur Thalassa boasts a prime beachfront location that guests often applaud for its serenity and stunning views. While the service is generally celebrated for its attentiveness, some visitors have found interactions with certain staff members, like those at the bar and beach, to be subpar. The rooms are a mixed bag, with reports of spacious suites alongside concerns regarding upkeep. The cleanliness across the hotel, however, consistently receives high marks. Although the amenities are well-regarded, especially the luxurious pools and dining options, a few guests mention that the full enjoyment of these features sometimes requires tipping. The atmosphere is described as peaceful with modern touches, yet the bedding comfort varies. Critics of the hotel's value suggest it falls short of its 5-star billing, despite reasonably priced spa treatments.

This hotel is fabulous we was worried about the food due to the other reviews my wife is a very picky eater but there is enough choice for even her to be able to eat breakfast lunch and dinner we even asked the waiters if food contained nuts and they told us if there was a dish that you don't want all of the ingredients put in just tell them and they cook it in front of you the variety of food available is plentiful the waiters are super freindly and will do so much for you everyday lofti our waiter would have our table ready and set up with our drinks nothing was too much trouble for them even when we asked for other drinks all the waiters would simply get these for you . The hotel itself is amazing super clean so spacious loads of places in sit inside and out to relax our room as a premium double with sea view it was massive even had a bath that over looked the sea lots of wardrobe space cleaned everyday fresh towels each day and the cleaners would get you extra towels if required again nothing to much trouble all staff happy to help lovely clean white sand clear water beach with a bar serving drinks all day loads of sun beds again asked for beach towels no hassle they just brought them us there also is a adults only spa facility that includes a indoor and outdoor heated pool with jacuzzi this is salt water with a great view of the sea and beach there is a charge for this about £15 a person but definitely worthwhile it as so relaxing. This hotel caters for adults only so nothing for children which is why we chose it we had nighly entertainment from Tunisian dancers to saxophone ,keyboard player and singers it was wonderful nothing too loud just right to sit and sing along and have a little dance

Booked this holiday with Tui as it was advertised as 5* platinum and based upon previous 5* platinum hotels with Tui was expecting a similar standard. According to a plaque on the entrance, the 5* rating hails from 2005 – this has not been maintained over the last 19 years. Taking into account my travelling experience, the hotel is a 3 plus or 4* at best and Tui should review the rating they have applied. I have holidayed in Tunisia in the past to 5* hotels and the Royal Azur just does not meet the same standards I have experienced.

This hotel is rather dated in places with cracked and chipped floor tiles around the pool and accommodation block. The adult only areas, namely the infinity pool, was used regularly by families with baby’s and young children with no effort by staff to enforce the adults only areas.

Rather oddly, the pool bar serves drinks in glasses. Many of these had chips to the rims and on more than one occasion other guests dropped and smashed glasses around the pool. On these occasions the lifeguards seemed disinterested but finally called for a cleaner. To my surprise, the women cleaners were not provided with any assistance by their colleagues to clean up the glass and at least twice I found myself helping by moving the wooden sun loungers so they could clear the glass away. One time I stepped on a shard of glass getting into the pool but fortunately was not injured – I would hate to think of another guest / child becoming injured. Glass has no place around a swimming pool!

The beach was littered with cigarette ends and bottle tops taking the shine of what should have been a lovely beach.

With the exception of breakfast, lunch and evening meal the waiting staff was poor. Poolside and beach staff should be asking guests if they want service but sadly they ignored people unless there was a tip involved. The al la carte restaurant (Italian) was a fawlty towers experience (for non UK guests please google fawlty towers) – the food was good but the service atrocious and so slow (we had to visit the bar on the ground floor below to get drinks!).

Our room was cleaned every day but only superficially – tide marks left around the wash basin and mirrors not cleaned. Fire alarm went off 3 times over 3 separate nights – no mustering or advising if it was a false alarm. If it were a real fire would we have been safe?

If you get a 25% discount on your package holiday to this hotel it would be good value but not at the full price they / Tui charge.

Based on other trip advisor views, I am sure the hotel will come back with contrary comments to paint a better picture. My advice, do your research before booking so your vacation meets your expectation.

We visited for a week and booked through TUI

Arriving at hotel all the staff where friendly and showed us to us a room after a chance to grab a bite to eat

The room was comfy clean and can’t fault it so room was 5 stars, we quickly realised it’s a very quiet hotel no activities throughout the day very limited and poor singing in the evening with respect

The food is very hit a miss some days was good some days bad although the omelettes are fresh and tasty the desserts are very poor no flavour and barley any choice the Italian restaurant on site was good but the rythem with the good countinued desert very poor other food average

The pools are clean but be aware the flies are a nightmare they are everywhere and really do annoy you on your getaway the pools are slightly heated but still expect a shock when you jump in after that’s it’s okay when you are swimming around may I say not the fault of the hotel but the rep is non existent the food for room service or at the beach bar is very overpriced more expensive that uk the equivalent of £17 for a burger it’s a joke I would recommend for any trips go and see sammy at the bar opposite the hotel on the main road he is helpful and cheaper that than the tour operator(he’s English as well)

Overall I would score it a 4 stars not a 5 we wouldn’t rush back for context we are British couple aged 20

Good luck

I would absolutely not recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to have a 5-star hotel experience on an all-inclusive basis. Detail pros and cons of the hotel.

In favour:
- The outdoor facilities of the hotel like the pool and gardens are nice.
-The hotel is generally very clean.
- The location is perfect, first line beach and good views.
Good private beach.
- Quality and variety of the right food.

Against:
On arrival, the toilet tank was broken. They took about two hours to fix. I asked for a room change and was told there was no hotel was full. Suspiciously, if you entered booking.com it allowed you to book a room at the hotel.
- The ceiling lights of the room were fused for 3 days even though, from the first day, I discussed it at reception. We had to spend 3 nights with the room practically in the dark. Eventually I had to go down to the front desk and get really angry with the front desk staff to get them to do something.
- The wifi signal is non-existent in the pool area.
All-inclusive cocktails as well as wines are a joke. Lousy quality.
-The staff service is absolutely terrible: The hotel staff has little decency to whisper between them in front of you and laugh in your own face.
The hotel staff can barely speak English.
Hotel staff are polite and even aggressive and intimidating in their behavior.
- In the pool area from mid-morning if you order a towel there is no more.
- Parasols missing in the middle of summer at 40°
It is unacceptable that by 8 a.m. all hammocks are already reserved.
-No animation except 1 hour of music at night.
Daytime activities do not exist
- The gym is paid, I would understand if it was a symbolic cost but they charge you almost 80 euros for a week.

In short, although the facilities are correct and the hotel is in a good location, a hotel with a service that laughs at its customers, that takes no interest in fixing the shortcomings of its room and that lacks such basic things as having enough umbrellas or towels for its customers, cannot be called a 5-star hotel. No doubt the attention of the staff ruined our stay making us feel really bad.

The all-inclusive is not worth it: alcoholic drinks are lousy and non-alcoholic drinks are only soft drinks or water, you can not order a juice.

Worst 5-star experience I've ever had.

My partner and I have had a fantastic stay for 7 nights. Our room was sufficiently restocked with bottled water daily, which was great as the temperatures have been rather warm.

The overall experience has been great and allowed us to have a week away to forget about the stresses back home. The staff are lovely and have been very attemptive when communicating.

The dining experience is brilliant, and you're spoilt for choice for lunch and dinner each day. I wouldn't class this as a complaint, but I did find the breakfast options slightly restricted compared to other hotel experiences in the past. However, this may just be a personal situation.

Issam waited on us hand and foot and made the dining experience absolutely great. It was a pleasure to have him wait on us. He was extremely prompt and ensured our drinks were actively topped up and that we remained refreshed. We wish him all the best in the future.

We also spent our last day visiting the spa. The prices for massages and treatments were very good value and helped us both relax and get ready for our departure. Spa staff were very friendly and the facilities were great, especially the salt water pool.

In summary, our stay was great, and we would certainly recommend that if you wish to go somewhere to help you rewind and escape the manic every day back home, this is the place.

The Royal Azur Hotel has well-maintained outdoor areas, with beautiful pools and well-kept vegetation, and daily morning cleaning of the common relaxation areas. The lobby is spacious and modern! The beach has phenomenal water, but the beach service is not the best; on the contrary, the staff on the beach are quite distant towards Europeans, but it didn't really bother me. The rooms were quite an adventure, ranging from rooms with a direct view of the street, and therefore unbearably noisy, to basement rooms with garden access, but with a smell of sewage and mold, combined with cleaning products to mask the mold smell, to beautiful, modern, and clean rooms, exactly what we were looking for, but which were only given to us after we informed the reception that it was unacceptable to spend our 12-day vacation in noise and the smell of mold. Putting aside the room adventure, we really liked the hotel because it was quiet, without too much animation, the areas were well-maintained, the beach was not crowded, and the sea water was magnificent. The food was perfectly suited to our tastes, with plenty of fish, vegetables, and fruits. I would like to mention Amir, the waiter who served breakfast and lunch, always available, with a smile on his face, and attentive to details. If it weren't for the negative experience with the rooms, I could say the hotel is perfect, but because of this experience, I recommend being careful when booking rooms—choose premium sea view!"

I much prefer the Orangers Garden (5-star hotel in the same chain also located in Hammamet).

The reason :
Here it is impossible on an all-inclusive basis to have lunch, dinner or simply have a drink at the Bel Azur which is adjacent, whereas at Orangers Garden it is possible at Orangers which adjoins it...
If you go to the entertainment at Bel Azur or a nightclub in the evening, you will have to pay for your drink!?
Les Orangers Garden is a hotel where the clientele is also calmer and more respectful...
In short, I will not return to the Royal Azur for these reasons but I will undoubtedly return to the Orangers Garden.
On the other hand, nothing to say about the Staff in its entirety.
I am a faithful supporter of Tunisia and this, for the 23rd time...

Hotel is nice and the reception and waiting staff are friendly, but outside the bar staff are ignorant and unhelpful.

The lifeguards only talk to you if you’re tipping them to get towels and a lounger every day otherwise they just ignore you.

Food is nice but with every AI it can become repetitive.

Drinks for me was the big thing, only cold drink you can get is draught beer or bottled water, all soft drinks are out of a bottle so are warm.

You appear to be looked after more if you’re paying/tipping the staff which I don’t agree with if you’ve paid for AI.

Any music during the day is limited to Friday to Sunday. Evening entertainment is usually a singer or a dance routine.

Everywhere is clean and the hotel overall is nice

The beach again is nice but there is litter down there and in the sea.

There are very few English people there mostly French and again you seem to be greeted/made effort with if you speak French

We also asked for an iron everyday for four days, always being told we will bring one to your room. We are still waiting……….

Overall a nice place but definitely not a platinum holiday, think TUI need to rethink that. Very relaxing but little to do

Excellent experience at the Royal Azur Thalassa, my and my partner went for valentines day. The Superior double room was absolutely unreal, decorated with rose petals and coming with pool and sea views. The food in the all inclusive / half board restaurant was faultless, everyday was different and there was so much choice. The staff were all very friendly and helpful with any question you may have. The adjoining spa is also perfect, at fair prices, which is ideal if you come in the colder season and want a warm pool to swim in. The pool area for this hotel is 5*. Everything about this hotel is luxurious and we had a wonderful stay! we honestly did not experience any negativity because we weren't "french or arab" and every single staff member we spoke to were very friendly, chatty and helpful. We had no trouble getting towels or being around the pools. The location is perfect, only a 10 minute walk into Hammamet to see the old town and lovley beaches. Its only around a 30 minute ride into Tunis and you can take a local louage or a taxi there.

Currently here and can say very disappointed. We are in the top/best room the hotel has to offer. The private pool suit.
We have paid just over £4.6k pw for this hotel, thinking it we would be treated like vips. Oh, I was wrong. We ate treateted just like a normal person.

The room...
Is lovely spacious and clean. That's where it stops.

There is no overhead shower.

The bed is very, very hard

Towels are like cardboard

Water keeps cutting out.

No socket for razor/ toothbrush

There is no where to hang towls or clothes in the bathroom.

Air-conditioning won't go below 21c

Wifi is very poor

Was advised that there is no one over looking us, but there are 2 floors that can.

Our pool isn't cleaned daily so we have to remove items our self's.

You only allowed 2 coffee in the room a day even asked for more and was told 20dt for 1 by maide

Room isn't 100% secure if a theif wanted too access our room they could easily do so by going out of the fire exit onto the flat roof then come through the pool entrance door what can not be locked via guess.

The restaurant

Is clean and well presented.

90% of staff are rude and just ealk pass you like you don't exist.

Food is very poor standard we've come on a all inclusive holiday and have decided to eat out now.

Breakfast... you can get omelette waffles crepe over cooked sausage things and vegetables hot wise and it's the same every day very disappointing.

Lunch/dinner... again, very basic, not much on offer

The place is swarming with flies, which also puts us off.

The bars

Wide rage to select from for AL, but drinks are very small. Asked if I could have a bottle of coke Zero with 2 glasses was told we had to pay even though we are AL, but they could put it in 4 glasses. Really don't make sense. Ask for absolute vodka, and they still give you their vodka. Asked for Jameson whisky, sorry, we have known even though they have it in the cupboard under the spirits.

Overall, I am very disappointed we will
Not return. this hotel is a 3* at a push
