My husband & I enjoyed our few days staying here. It was nice & quiet location on the other side of the river to the busy Main Street, but only a 10 minute or so walk. Also it’s location is very close to the main attraction The Bridge Over The River Kwai. Our most favorite thing about staying here was the Blue Rice Restaurant just across the road right on the river. Apple & Noi run both establishments.
We visited Apple’s Retreat with high expectations, considering the good reviews it has received. This place is located in a quiet area, away from bars and restos. The room is clean but super basic. However, don’t expect your room to be tidied up each day. The bathroom has molds in the shower curtain and on the toilet seat. Breakfast was miserable, considering that you eat at Blue Rice resto...and the fact that cooking classes are offered. You get some toast (old), small jam and butter, then eggs. Coffee is pretty good but the juice is not fresh. You will also not be offered water. The owners can ‘perk’ up the breakfast a bit by offering seasonal fresh fruits (its not expensive), fresh bread etc. There are a lot of mosquitoes at night or early morning. Use a repellant.
This hotel is great. Rooms are only about 30 US dollars a night. I would have spent 3 times that and still felt it was a great deal. Great rooms and service! The owners are absolutely awesome and attentive. The hotel is close to everything but tucked away from the Thai hustle and bustle streets. You can’t go wrong by staying here. They also own the restaurant across the street. Best food ever! They also have cooking classes. Read my review on there cooking class. NOW! Has to be one of the best things I have ever done in my 41 year life. Thanks Noi, Apple, and Peach for making this one of my best experiences EVER!
From start to finish Apple’s were so welcoming, someone greeted us when we arrived and showed us to our beautiful room. The food was absolutely delicious, the best we tasted when in Thailand. We did a Thai cooking course which was well organised and we learned a lot. Apples also arrange a day out for us which included bamboo rafting, water fall climbing and a trip to the elephants. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to our holiday - so perfect! Thank you!
I stayed at Apple ten years ago and regretted not staying longer and completing the Thai cooking course. In their new location, Apple Retreat is equally as peaceful and relaxing as I remember it and coming back to do the cooking class at their Blue Rice restaurant over the road was a real highlight of my trip. The incredibly friendly Noi took me out to visit the local market as well as some of the local farms, which was a great insight into real Thai culture. Highly recommended!
