Having stayed at an array of luxury hotels and resorts throughout the world in the past 25 years and thus having seen many different approaches towards guest service, the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort has managed to exceed my expectations on so many levels during a short three-night stay. Comparing the property within the same brand, I can say with conviction that it is the best InterContinental out there, even better than the Fujairah Resort which had topped my list so far. And here’s why: First of all, the hotel complex, or at least the Beach Wing, is on the smaller side when compared to others in the vicinity and in town, which I appreciated. This supports a refined and intimate setting, rather than grand and intimidating. The resort is well designed and tastefully decorated with a sophisticated mix of traditional and modern elements. Much open space, greenery, flowers, definitely how a resort should present itself. All facilities including the garden, pool and beachfront area are spotless and meticulously maintained. Beautiful lobby with comfortable seating at the reception desks and a delicious welcome drink. Premier rooms in the Beach Wing have ample space and are fitted with all the luxury that you could wish for in a five-star resort. An excellent bed, wooden fixtures and a large marble bathroom (all in excellent condition by the way) make for a relaxing home away from home. The suites look very inviting as well, of course. I did not visit the BluPort Wing (connected to the main building via a covered bridge), but I presume the high standards are extended there as well. The two parking decks had sufficient space available at all times. Now that’s all very nice and comfy in itself, possibly what one would come to expect of a hotel of this class. However where the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort clearly excels is with the staff, who give the property its heart and its soul, its personality and its warmth. Never have I experienced hotel staff so dedicated, so positive, so attentive, always approachable, demonstrating genuine care and kindness, going the extra mile with any request that I had, anticipating what I may need next, working together hand in hand as a team to deliver truly excellent personalized guest service. I was swept away. Noteworthy team members (I hope I got the names right) are May, Lisa, Lalita and Marisa at the front desk as well as Marvin of the F&B team and Than at the Azure restaurant, who all shine with their passion for guest service, who have a meticulous eye for detail and such an elegant and pleasant way to converse. It’s plain to see that you guys very much enjoy what you do. When everything’s so nice and everyone’s happy, it may be easier to impress a guest. But a service team is put to a test when things do go wrong. I raised a lighting issue in the room after the first night, just a minor technical error. The front desk’s response was outstanding. I was attended to by May who was in charge at the time, she listened carefully to my feedback, and with concern for my well-being she swiftly found a convenient solution by moving me to another even nicer room. I had no hassle whatsoever with the baggage, she took care of all the arrangements and so much more. The new key was waiting for me at the front desk when I returned in the evening. Team members later followed up to make sure that everything was in order in the room. I knew then I was in good hands. Another thing worth mentioning, the breakfast spread is superb, among the best that I’ve experienced at any luxury hotel brand. Excellent selection of food items that are of very high quality across the board. The offering of creative smoothies and tasty juices in funky colors surprised me the most. The outside breakfast area has this lovely atmosphere and view, just the way you like to start the day. So all in all, I expected a comfortable resort stay in a location that would serve as a base for a couple of day trips. What I got was nothing less than guest service redefined, to perfection. Kudos to May, Lisa, Lalita, Marisa, Marvin, Than, and everyone else who had their part in creating this memorable experience, I will return for sure.…
