For most people who probably stay in Chiang Rai for a few days, this hotel is perfect; it has a lovely pool and relaxation area, indoor and outdoor with lots of shade. If you want a quick coffee (hot or cold) or a bite to eat, there is a coffee shop and pizzeria right next door! There is an excellent choice at breakfast and a well equipped fitness room.
I stayed at this hotel for 10 days and I enjoyed every minute. The rooms are comfortable with great air con, a fridge, free unlimited bottled water, excellent wifi and an in-room electronic mosquito repelling device which works a treat!
The best thing about this hotel are the staff; I have not experienced the relaxed, attentive, friendly and jovial atmosphere in a hotel before (and I have stayed in many). Throughout my stay I lost count of how many times I heard the staff chatting and laughing among themselves and with the guests, it is a real tonic to hear that.
Having spent a lot of time in and around the hotel I often saw how hard the staff worked even when they thought no one was watching; trust me when I say that there is not a leaf out of place in the lovely gardens! I never once experienced a perfunctory greeting which you often find with hotel staff, every time I spoke to a member of staff, it was genuinely friendly with a desire to help.
The managers at the Nak Nakara should be proud of their staff and congratulated on the happy working environment they have created. Thank you for looking after me.
The hotel is very nice, with quiet, spacious and clean rooms. Large swimming pool but in the afternoon is in the shade.
Breakfast was the best in three weeks around Thailand. From salty, to spicy, to sweet with many choices and variations.
For 1200 baths (about 35 Euros) we were arranged a taxi that gave us a private tour for a day in the various nearby attractions up to the Golden Triangle

The staff is young and very friendly (like almost all Thais) and they also speak English quite well. Included in the price (at least in our case) was fruit and water at any time (you could take the bottles directly from the fridge at reception) and breakfast which was very good. Rich in both sweet and savory food with a gentleman who made omelettes on the spot. Truly, truly an excellent breakfast both in terms of quality, quantity and variety of choice.
Very close to Chiang Rai night market.
Recommended only if you spend time in this place.

We had a family room consisting of 2 connecting rooms which were very spacious and modern with a traditional touch. Not much of a view from the window but for such a short time it was not a problem. Soft drinks provided for free in the mini bar fridge as well as snacks and water provided for free in reception.
Pool towels also provided and a freezing cold pool to take a dip in with some lovely sunbeds.
Wish we had arrived earlier so we could enjoy all the facilities. Definitely recommend.

There was a free mini bar and drinks in the room and a fridge in the reception with complimentary water bottles and fresh fruit every day which was a lovely touch when you came in from the heat! Also free bicycles to use, gym and a pool which we never got to use as it was always pretty full :( we booked a motorcycle with the hotel which was quick and easy. Breakfast was ok just not the best for vegetarians think we just ended up with toast and fruit - (almost no options for vegans)
Special thanks for Thepa (really hope I got that right) and all at reception desk they were all so helpful!
To be honest Chiang Ria itself appears to be a run down part of Thailand compared to many other parts of the country. I got the impression it more likely attracts back packers. That said the people were very helpful and friendly. There was a winter wonderland event on while we stayed and it was clearly a success.
Re hotel:
Clean and tidy.
Loverly sized room.
There was a nice size pooled.
Most importantly the staff were very helpful.
The only question for me is why the hotel does not offer a reasonable restaurant facility? Other than breakfast there was a very small and limited bar menu. If you want anything substantial you need to explore town.
So for us a nice hotel. Staff helpful and would recommend to others.
The hotel was then simply unable to cope with the surge in customers that weekend ( to be fair a holiday weekend). There were no free bikes available as advertised, food ran out at the breakfast buffet both mornings, and they didn't offer poolside drinks, an easy money maker as it would have been great to have a cold drink and lounge by the pool on a hot day. I understand that there may be low staff during this period, but how difficult is it to have a stocked fridge full of sodas and beers?
All was not bad. The rooms were clean and comfortable (if not slightly dated) and the grounds well kept. I found the staff pleasant and polite. They also have a nice salt water pool, and the location is right in the heart of the city.
This hotel is more suited for those looking for a clean and simple location to bed down for the night or tour groups, and for those looking to spend all day sightseeing, but I would skip if you are looking for a quiet place to relax or a private getaway.
"Plenty of parking spaces and the hotel also offer free bicycles to use around town. "Read full review
