Fantastic hotel, rooms spacious, spotless and ours also had a partial side sea view and a bathtub on the large balcony overlooking the jungle in the distance. Huge bed, plenty of storage space and even a large fridge in the room. The resort was quite quiet when we stayed, so never had any issues getting served or getting a sunbed, and the food we ate at both the pool bar and the breakfast buffet was great, lots of choice. The pools are huge and there are a few beds at Kokulo beach club overlooking the ocean but these tend to go quickly! The location is perfect, five minute walk down the quiet street at the side of the resort(which also had small supermarkets, massage places and a couple of restaurants), takes you past a great restaurant called Give me Five(must eat here!) & a very cool bar called the Fat Shark, where you feel like you're surrounded by jungle as it's just back from the road! A few minutes walk further takes you out to Bang Niang market, I recommend Be Bob Bar(owner very nice), Lan La bar(amazing fresh fruit daiquiris!), Mojito bar for a great cheap Mojito just across from the street food stalls which I highly recommend eating from. The beach at the hotel is stunning, clean soft sand and plenty of space, you can walk along the hotel beach to Bang Niang beach with even more choice of bars and restaurants. Kokulo beach club at the hotel was fun, they have a DJ, great cocktails, good service and beautiful views, was nice to sit here at night after a long day where we didn't want to venture out, but obviously it's a lot more expensive than the surrounding bars and restaurants, and a bit too easy to charge to the room which can result in a large bill at the end of the stay! We would definitely come back to this hotel.

Initially I was somewhat disconcerted by the bold angular design of this stunning immaculate hotel but as I started to understand the concept I realised it was absolutely brilliant.Think very white marble, slate coloured buildings, housing the spacious bedrooms, white walkways, shapes are triangular, green grassy areas and lush planting along the walkways. All the public areas are housed in angular stunning buildings concealed by walkways and roof top planting.
The bedrooms are extremely spacious with balconies, lovely views, some of the beach and sea others of the many pools. They all have beautifully fitted bathrooms with large showers and baths and and well fitted. There is ample storage space for the bedroom, desk, large sofa and chair and in addition an good sized fridge. Additional features some rooms/suites include baths on the larger balconies. Food is brilliant and one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. The beach and the beach bar are great fun areas and I know there is a sports club, spa and gym but I was always too lazy enjoying the rest of it to get around to using those other facilities. Some of the sun beds stand on the marble pool slips which mean that you can dangle your toes into the waters edge while dealing with the tan. The Kids Club seemed to be kept busy.
The staff, particularly the boys and girls at the Beach Bar and Restaurant, were the best trained and attentive staff You would want for, full of fun, efficient and a great team working together. We had a great Chinese New Year at the Beach Bar with entertainment laid onand a most impressive fire juggler.
The food is really great at both the Restaurant, the Dining Room, the Library Cafe and the Miner’s Bar these places being housed in triangular buildings and somewhat concealed by walkways and rooftop planting.
This is a fabulous hotel which you will want to leave. Highly recommended.

This was our first holiday to Thailand as a family, (2 adults and 2 young children). It took a day to get used to the architecture of the resort as it’s very different to other hotels I’ve stayed at and I really loved it for the remainder of the holiday. The location is excellent as it’s right by the beach, walking distance to local restaurants and a great base for day trips. We stayed in the family room, which was spacious and the beds were very big and comfortable. The pools never felt too busy and there was a small area for younger children to play. I found the restaurants exceeded our expectations. There was always a great range of food for breakfast. We initially opted for BnB but on arrival we changed to half board and glad we did because the onsite Kokulo restaurant was fantastic for lunch and dinner, providing a DJ, different shows on the beach throughout the stay. The staff at Kokulo were friendly and I would like to thank Zen and Yoyo for their excellent service throughout our stay. The drinks are naturally more expensive onsite but the hotel does provide happy hours.

There was a good sized gym onsite, as well as activities/classes you can opt in for.

To give this a balanced review, I there are a few extra areas of attention to detail that would make the difference. For example the steps to the rooms could be cleaned more often. I would have liked the staff to have come to the pool areas to see if we wanted drinks/snacks etc. These are minor points though.

If you are looking for a holiday in Khao Lak, you’ll be very happy if you pick this hotel.

We stayed for one week beginning of January. Exceptional service by all the staff. Hotel right on the beach with plenty of good quality sun loungers, great food/drink at kokolu beach club. Lovely pool and bar if you want a quieter, mainly adult area.
The breakfast was the best selection we have ever had and the dining area was very well organised for a busy turnover of people.
Loved every minute here, ate in the hotel a couple of times, reasonably priced and good quality food.
Hotel is In Khuk Khuk village, slightly out of main Khao Lak area but we thought it was a great location with just a short walk to nearby bars and restaurants and 5 mins to Biang Nang street market. If you want a hotel overlooking the beautiful Andaman Sea, high standard of accommodation and outstanding service, you won’t find better than La Vela.

Firstly I will answer all the questions I have about a hotel:
Beach Towel, Beach Mats, Pool Towels, Hair Dryer, Toiletries, Water, Bath Robes, Slipper, Flip Flops and Tea & Coffee making facilities are all provided. There are a couple of international sockets in each room so no need for adapters and plug in mosquito repellents are also in each room.
The hotel itself is very clean and the rooms are of a good size. The staff are very courteous and go out of their way to help you.
My husband is a coeliac and the service provided for him was exceptional. On our first morning he commented that the gluten free bread was the best he had ever had. He told this to the pastry chef in the bread room who then advised him of the flour he used etc. A little while later he came to our table with copies of his recipes and explained all the mixing & kneading techniques he uses to my husband.Thank you Turasak ( I hope I've spelt your name right) your help was much appreciated.
The breakfast buffet is vast and caters for all possible tastes.
The Kokulo Beach Bar is also very good. Again the chef and all the waiting staff were extremely helpful with my husband, especially on the BBQ buffet night where they walked round with him showing him all the dishes that were suitable for him to eat.
A special Thank You to Ked & Yoyo our regular waitresses who looked after our every need. We will miss you girls.
The location is Khao lak is very good, within walking distance to many bars restaurants etc & yet far enough away to remain very peaceful & quiet.
Would definitely return to this hotel.

Just came back from a 12 night stay at La Vela. The hotel has a perfect location directly on the beautiful beach, and with a lot of restaurants, shops, and bars within 5-600 m`s. We had a nice room (3656) with a great view of one of the pools, and also of the ocean. Breakfast was excellent, with a great variety of fruits, juices, bread and hot dishes. Staff very freindly, polite, and always smiling. Unfortunately there are some cons, that destroys the overall impression. I had, before our arrival, emailed the hotel requesting an early check inn, due to the early arrival of our flight. Despite that, we had to sit in a hot lobby for over two hours, without being offered anything else, than a tiny glass of something sweet blue stuff. 25+ degrees in jeans and sneakers, after 20 hours of travel, is not so funny. Cleaning of the room was okay, but outside it was non-existing . Not once in these 12 days, the outside hallways, and stairs were cleaned. We have stayed on hotels where we easily could walk barefoot from pool to room. But not this time. In the pool area, beside the Cotton Cafe, some stairs looked like they could break apart anytime. I´m sad to see a new hotel all ready looking old. We`re certainly not coming back

This was our second time in La Vela so overall we like the hotel very much. We appreciate the architecture and the overall nice and relaxed feeling in the hotel. My personal favorite is the beach pool, bar and restaurant (Kokulo), situated next to very beautiful and peaceful beach. Food in Kokulo is of good quality, of course pricey compared to local restaurants but that’s a stupid comparison: this is a high quality restaurant with attentive staff. And the DJ! Almost every day he was there all day playing chill summer beats for the hotel guests. How cool is that! Drinks and the bar tenders are also very good!! Most of the hotel staff was changed since two years ago so it seems the local hotel industry lacks the capability of creating long term employeeships: in my opinion this partly explains why all staff are friendly but extremely rigid in their service. It feels everything is ruled and regulated by a “process guide”, which leaves a clumsy feeling. This is one reason for not giving 5 stars. Further cons from us are that cleanliness could be better too, I know our standards are high, but still - this is a high quality and pricey hotel. And the hotel rooms are not sound proof: loud Germans kept us awake often. But finally, this is a very good hotel. Comparing to our own experiences and what others who have stayed here, this is one of the best places in the area. Additional plus points for the adequate gym, I hate those “lookalike gyms” that some hotels advertise, this one was ok’ish. Hotel pools are extremely nice too.

We simply loved our time at La Vela Khao Lak. From the moment we arrived the service was excellent. We had the most relaxing stay here, which was made easy by the superbly equipped room and the layout of the resort. The resort has a choice of pools of which we went for the quieter pool which is served by a coffee shop, but if you are looking for something a little livelier the pool with the bar is also excellent. We booked a "deluxe poolside' room which was not the most expensive but its was extremely comfortable and well equipped. It was on the top floor and overlooked the pool, I think on reflection this was more suitable for us than the more expensive rooms with direct pool access. The breakfast was superb, lots of options in a buffet style but with a large choice of dishes which are cooked fresh for you on request. The beach here gets the best sunsets as well. All in all this hotel is the perfect place if you are looking for a relaxing break with excellent facilities and services.

Gorgeous property right on the beach. Breakfast was extensive!! So many choice and you could have anything you wanted. Very friendly staffs.’

The room was large and very beautiful with a big balcony. For this kind of hotel we missed the bathrobe and the slipper in the room for guest. The room was cleaned but in some area in the bathroom was not really cleaned. Cleanness could be improved.

Good AC systems, hot/cold water perfect. Very big TV screen and the WiFi was very fast. Complimentary water for the whole stay.

The staff at the restaurant (at dinner) are very good what they do, they really care about you and very friendly. If you pasted by, they always greeted you with a traditional “wai”. The food was very good, Japanese a la carte was from a very high quality. Thai Food was good, the Portion was might a bit to small.

Actually the only department I was disappointed was the front office. They were nice but not really warm welcome and very friendly. They answer if you asked but they are not taking to you if you are at the front area, not asking anything how you feel, how was your night, what’s you plan etc. no small talk, no greetings if you pasted- not even heads up from the paper or computer. Even the GSM don’t talked to you when you are waiting in front of her. That’s not a good a service for this kind of hotel from the front office department as this is the face and as well the voice of the hotel. Regardless of the star rating of the hotel or the hotel type, the hotel has a front office as its most visible department.
Spa we haven’t tried as it was closed that time we want to go- I guess the spa is outsourcing as we asked for a menu at the front and they didn’t have them.

The bell boys were very friendly. Also with a smile and a “wai”.

Swimming pools were (4 or 5 pools) not really cleaned, could be improved as this
is one of the point of sale.

All in all I have to say, we have enjoyed our stay at La Vela and will definitely come back- and really hope the points will be improve for the future stay.

very nice modern hotel, reminds me of an art installation, all angles and quirky concrete and glass. Excellent location with a tragic past as this is the exact site of the most number of deaths in the 2004 Tsunami, if you check you tube footage you can actually see footage of this beach and rock formations which match the videos. About ten minute walk to the local town with enough bars and eateries without it being over the top. There is a main road about a kilometre away with a market and there is also another resort about 10 mins in a taxi. The bar prices as usual are too steep, they never learn! Happy hour consists of buy 2 get 1 free! What is the point in that? It has to be buy 1 get 1 free! There also should be a free tuk tuk to the town, i wasnt offered one. Its also right on its own beach. Wasnt impressed with some of the staff shreeking at each other when cleaning the rooms. Not at these prices
