This hotel was built about two years ago on an isolated beachfront location surrounded by tropical rain forest. This is great for swimmers and sun lovers, although there was a permanent red flag flying and very few people on the beach.(it is low season). There...More

We stayed at the Merlin for 2 weeks on an All-inclusive board. I can not fault this place, they go over and beyond to ensure your stay is as comfortable as it can possi ly be. We were well catered for, the food is amazing....More
Went in Aug 2018 with wife and 11/14yr old girls.
The hotel and ground are fantastic, genuinely felt like a tropical retreat. Loads of small swimming pools all over the places and plenty of wildlife and small rivers teaming with fish.
We went all inclusive,...More
The Merlin is an increbilbly beautiful hotel but there is hardly anything to do on the evenings. After dinner one evening, we went to the bar and we were the only ones in there. If you want a holiday with some entertainment in the evenings,...More

October is the official end of the monsoon season and paves the way for the popular tourist season of Nov-April. It is a hit or miss season as you could see a year where monsoon winds stopped early or see a year where monsoon winds stayed late. If you are lucky you’ll have sun and blue sky the whole of your time there, if you’re average you’ll have 50% cloudy days with sharp downpours which come and go throughout the day (most are evening time and into the night) and 50% blue sky and sun, if you’re unlucky you’ll have 80% heavy rain and wind from the sea which will erode the beach away. Regardless of which you get, it’ll be hot and humid in this month.
If you’re an dog and/or cat lover I recommend getting a taxi from
The hotel (they’ll take you, wait and bring you back) to the Soi Dog Sanctuary 45 minutes south; it’s a beautiful place where a british charity bring in animals and nurse them back to health and adopt them back to US/European homes. Check them on tripadvisor for reviews. I recommend Silk Spa which is in Khao Lak for your massages, again, they’re on trip advisor. I’d give the Tsunami memorial a miss, it’s rubbish and unkept.
