Good parts: 1) The room is luxuriously furnished and spacious. The bathroom is big and well appointed, with lovely toiletries (coconut lime) and two separate basins. Hot water anytime 2) The resort is set on spacious grounds, and we spotted lots of monkeys there. Each room has a spacious sitout/balcony 3) There is a nice swimming pool (though we didn't use it) 4) Their cook is pretty good, as all our meals were quite tasty Bad parts 1) Just horrible approach road. I think the roads inside Serengeti were better. The resort is away from the town and accessible only by a gravel road which is just terrible. 2) WiFi only works in the common areas. We were in Bougainvillea room (number 2) and we didn't get ANY wifi signal in our room 3) While hot water is great, but the shower is weak and extremely unsatisfying. After 5 days in the jungle, the first thing you want is a good strong shower. However, the pressure is weaker than some showers we had in jungle camps 4) Being so far from the city meant that we didn't even have 4G signal on Vodacom network (and a weak 2 bar signal on Airtel) . Again, after 5 days in the jungle, we got NONE of the basics of being back in civilization 5) They were reluctant to refill some buffet items. We went for dinner at 2000 (started at 1900) and the pilaf rice was almost out. We didn't feel like scraping the bowl for the small amount left, and the staff made no attempt to refill it. So net, didn't get to eat it So in summary, the resort does some things great (furnishing the room) but misses on other significant things. …
No air conditioning, no fans, and windows don't have screens! After a 24+ hours of traveling to Tanzania, it was difficult to rest and sleep in the stuffy rooms. Walls are also paper thin so you hear your neighbors. Not a great way to start our 7 day safari. On a positive note the staff is friendly and the food was pretty good! Location is awful.
Such a peaceful location, everything about the lodge is just excellent, the cozy rooms, the well trained and lovely staff, delicious food, a really home away from home. Will definitely be back and I can't wait.
Fantastic place to rewind. Cozy feeling with clean modern bathrooms, no need to bring shampoo and conditioner. You will also get a happy dutch manager. Free wifi. Excellent food and service. If you have forgotten clothing they sell safari shirts neutral in color.
Checks every box. The lodge got us rested up before we headed out to many miles of bumpy roads and wondrous sights. The Lodge associates were all super friendly and the accommodations were excellent and the restaurant setting and food were great.
We stayed at Olerai before and after our safari. Location is a good starting point, however, in rainy season the roads are absolutely terrible to get in and out without getting stuck. The setting is nice with a few animals like the dik-dik, monkeys, and birds. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The units are spacious and nice. Both times we had minimal amount of water. Couldn't take a shower either time and last time we didn't even have enough water to wash our faces. Staff brought bottled water to wash and buckets of water to flush the toilet. This made it for a not good ending. I would not recommend this place unless they do some major upgrades to improve.
We stayed in the stunning Olerai Lodge in December 2019, before and after our safari. Upon arrival we were greeted by the lovely staff and offered a refreshing fruit juice. They helped carry our luggage to our beautiful room and gave us a quick tour of the grounds. The place is perfection. Beautifully surrounded by nature, with views of Mount Meru, it can hardly get better. The moment we set foot in our room we were overwhelmed by the luxury feel. The large bed was so inviting to just lay there all day and relax, and the bathroom! Oh my! The bathroom was probably the most beautiful we have ever seen. With a double shower, and a bathtub, stunning details and the combination with wooden elements, it was almost too beautiful to use, we just wanted to look at it and admire it. The room was very spacious, with its own sitting area. We had our own private porch outside our room, and little dik-diks (tiny antelopes) came super close in the mornings and evenings, a true feeling of connection with nature. And we haven’t even mentioned the food yet! The breakfast was so delicious, abundant, with tons of fruit presented in a beautiful way, pancakes, scrambled eggs on toast, coffee, juice, oh, so yummy! On our first night we also ate dinner here and it was absolutely delicious! Kash and her colleagues were so sweet and wonderful organizing everything for us and we cannot recommend their place enough. It was one of the most beautiful lodgings of our entire 3 week’s trip in Tanzania. 100% recommended, and so many thanks to everyone.…
I loved this brand new lodge (recently opened) for the way it fits naturally into the landscape. Also, I had just come off of a 30-hour flight (with layovers) and quite honestly, I needed a place to rest my head BEFORE going on safari. This place is gorgeous, the rooms are well-thought-out and they have everything you need to make your stay perfect. I love that it is close enough to the Kilimanjaro (JRO) airport and yet far enough away to feel like you are out in the African mist!
I stayed at Olerai Lodge at the beginning and end of my safari and it was perfect. Here’s why: 1. It's only about 15-20 minutes from Arusha airport, which makes it convenient to both the city center and to flights coming and going. 2. It has modern amenities, like wifi! 3. The rooms are modern, clean and well-equipped. This is a newer lodge and the rooms are pretty! 4. They food is yummy! I had the most delicious caprese salad with balsamic reduction! 5. The staff is super friendly and attentive.
We stayed at Olerai Lodge a day before and a day after our Safari with Shadows Of Africa, and it was the perfect place to start and finish. Cash and the team were great, even though we arrived late at night, the food was incredible and the guys just genuinely couldn't have been more happy to help. :)
