There could not have been a better start to our safari vacstion than to have stayed at the Safari House.
The effort that Inocent, Steve and Jamah have put into making your stay special is very unique. They have created an atmosphere that encourages fellow travelers to relax and share experiences past and anticipated with their community.
The common areas are filled with a variety African paintings and complimented with furniture and decor that provide a wonderful vibe and feeling of time and place. The outside area, inpartiular the shared gazebo, are designed to help you relax in preparation for your upcoming, or rejuvinating from your recently completed, safari.
We stayed in the King garden room, it was large and comfortable and the mattress was of high quality. Breakfast in the morning was great with a selection of fruit, a very tasty omelet, advacodo, toast and coffee.

Spent 2 nights here on each end of my game drive adventure and wished I’d stayed longer. The owner & manager, Innocent gives this place such a chillaxed (that’s chill & relax) vibe. Everything from the artwork (by local artists), the food (lovingly prepared by chef Steve), their beautiful K-9, Castro all give Mazzola the feel of “home”

I had the single room with private bath and really appreciated the space, it’s special touches of exquisite African artwork, the extra table to place my bag, the large armoire with full length mirror.

Especially the outdoor space with a garden and separate covered lounge sofas give it an added relaxed vibe. Breakfast is included as is bottled water (the large ones as Innocent discussed with me there’s a plastic dilemma in the country so I certainly respect his consciousness about being environmentally friendly) 👍🏽

Cannot wait to return to visit my family, that’s what they are for me. Oh yea, we gotta work out those salsa moves.

Ahsante sana.
Abrazos.

The accommodation was comfortable, in a quiet environment and extremely well-kept and pleasant. Innocent, Steve and Jamal are extremely friendly and helpful, they help with absolutely everything and make you feel at home. Hostel with 5-star hotel service. They also organize great safari and park tours with very friendly, fun and knowledgeable guides. We chose a trip to Mount Meru, where Steve, who is an excellent guide, took us. We are extremely happy that we chose this hostel and very grateful to the whole team!! If possible, we will come back :) Highly recommend!!

The host was ok enough and sometimes helpful. The place was also clean. But what really spoilt it for me was the fact that he suddenly said he would charge me more than triple for the laundry because I had 'underwear and other personal items'. Bear in mind I loaded the clothes into the machine myself, and hung them up myself and they didn't dry.

To think he was paying extra attention to what I had, probably gossipping and trying to charge extra left a bad taste in my mouth.

When I disputed paying $10 for a small load of laundry he demanded a tip.

He also mentioned at one point that he doesn't usually provide laundry facilities, which is pretty essential for a guesthouse. Without it, I wouldn't have stayed more than a day. Perhaps I shouldn't have done.

Wifi not working well either and constant electricity cuts.

No hot water and shower not powerful enough. No aircon or mosquito nets. He'd also overbooked the room I initially paid a deposit for via a booking website. Recommended tours were overpriced.

Bear in mind that it is quite a walk from the city and it is tough to do it by yourself at night because it is tucked away in a residential area, and difficult to find due to it being a maze of dirt-road streets. So if you don't have transport, you're kind of stuck there.

The smaller issues wouldn't have bothered me as much but I'm afraid that overall, my stay was marred by the problems I experienced.

Response from Innocent Samson, Owner at Mazzola Safari House & Backpacking
Responded Dec 5, 2020
Greetings Janine, Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Mazzola Safari House. Unfortunately you seem displeased by some of our practices. As you have mentioned some crucial aspects regarding our business. First for most we would like to formally apologize to you regarding this. Its a shame we did not get the chance to personally apologize & understand your part of the story. We would like to do so. Our laundry services start at $5, this fee may rise depending on the content you planning to wash. Our maximum laundry fee is at $10. We wish we gave a better explanation on this when you visited. You paid $5 (tip included), we apologize if this was not what you expected. We at Mazzola Safari house promise the best experience to all our arriving backpackers, we assure issues like hot water & wifi are available at all times. We apologize this was not so, we will work on being more. We are quite surprised regarding the overbooked issue. In the end we remember you having the room you preferred during your stay. Our rooms are free of Mosquitoes, we use electric Mosquitoes killers also. We have Zero Mosquitoes in the property & have never had a negative feedback regarding this. To all our incoming guest, please note, our accommodation is 1.7km away from the highway, in this short distance is a village. Authentic Africa village, very calm & good to experience. Please remember it may be difficult to navigate in a village but you'll never miss your way to Mazzola Safari House. We'll make sure you find it easy to navigate around this wonderful place. Janine, we are very sorry for the experience you had. Believe us, we deeply are not happy with how you saw things. We wish you find it easy to let go of this, to remember all the wonderful things we shared together & to look to the experience in all. We will do better, we always want to do better. Asante & karibu tena Mazzola. Innocent

Thank you Innocent for making us feel so welcome and at home. The garden is beautiful with a lovely comfortable garden room to relax in as well as the indoor sitting room and the artwork everywhere is lovely. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and enormous! Plenty of hot water and good WiFi. Extremely well behaved and quiet dog that is kept away from guests unless, like us, you want to meet him.
Yes it may be difficult to find as it is well tucked away (and therefore very peaceful,) but Innocent met us from the bus so we had no problem at al.

I just loved it. Innocent is a great host, his house is lovely and everything contributes to making you feel home. The garden is gorgeous, excellent to chill out before or after a safari or just like this. Location might be tricky, but this is not applicable to this case. Innocent is great at providing all necessary support. Wifi in the rooms and outside. He can help w organising safaris too.
