Dickman Resort was our first stop at the beginning of a two-week private tour of Sri Lanka. I had chosen it rather by default, as I was not very impressed by the other hotels on offer in Negombo. My preference is for small, authentic-style hotels and, despite being a little put off by the name, Dickman Resort seemed to have individual charm and character – particularly the brightly coloured décor. I was not disappointed; in fact, it far exceeded my expectations! We were warmly greeted by the courteous staff, offering freshly squeezed passion fruit juice whilst we checked-in. Flowers adorned our bed and we were supplied with a generous fruit plate and cold water in refillable glass bottles (a plus point for eco-awareness; but the staff need to remember to offer this at breakfast time, as they automatically brought me water in a plastic bottle, versus filtered in glass). The Standard ground floor room was the only one available when we booked, but it was very quiet on account of few people in the hotel, and perfect for a 24 hour stay, despite its location (it is right next to the reception area and its large windows open directly out onto the pool, so no privacy when the curtains are open). It is tastefully and colourfully decorated, albeit a little tired and quirky in parts (atrium-style shower opens out onto a scruffy rooftop). I enjoyed a couple of quiet refreshing swims in the pool, where the friendly pool attendant was eager to provide me with a chaise longue, towel and even a Yoga mat! I also liked the fact that there were no time restrictions, so I could have a 6 o’clock swim before breakfast. The manager’s recommendation for dinner at a local restaurant was rather disappointing, especially as I had specifically said that I was seeking something typically Sri Lankan. It turned out to be a restaurant for tourists, complete with purple neon lighting and live English golden oldies! To be fair, the Sri Lankan food, on the extensive menu (principally international!), was rather good. In hindsight, being somewhat jet-lagged, we should have followed the manager’s suggestion to order food from the said restaurant, and dine in the hotel’s tranquil tropical garden (particularly as authentic restaurants in Negombo are few and far between – according to TA). Breakfast at the hotel did not disappoint, being a copious fruit plate (we soon realised that this portion was the norm, reflecting Sri Lankan generosity; so we used to share one between us to avoid the carefully cut fruit being wasted). We politely declined the kind offer of eggs and bread, which we don’t eat in the mornings. Healthy options such as muesli, granola or porridge with yoghurt/coconut milk (offered by similar Sri Lankan hotels), would have been a bonus, as would good coffee versus instant – but, I was seeking authenticity in the land of tea, so you can’t have it all! I would definitely stay at the Dickman Resort again, and I would certainly recommend it as a good temporary stopover, particularly as it is just 30 minutes from Colombo airport.

An atypical boutique hotel. Lovely rooms; kind, generous staff nothing was too much trouble. Fabulous atmosphere. A perfect start to our SriLanka visit. The breakfast description on the website was what initially attracted me to the hotel and it didn't disappoint. Very tranquil despite proximity to main street. Pool area small but relaxing. Thank you Dickman people..hopefully we'l be back . p.s trip was in March 2019

Dickman resort is a adult only hotel located in Negombo district. It’s around 15-20minutes drive from the Colombo Airport. The aesthetics of the hotel are just outstanding. The colourful property decor, swimming pool, and the foyer near the reception, everything was super pretty! I stayed in the Mango suite, which was just amazing! Not to forget, the passion fruit juice and the morning Sri Lankan breakfast was a delight and worth drooling! Thanks for hosting us sir! Hope to visit someday again ☺️

Overpriced hotel, not Sri Lanka prices. Staff is friendly, breakfast all right. Not anything as it seems as in the photos. Really has not aged good. There are many other better options in the area. Sorry but I would not recommend it!

Located a short ride from Sri Lanka’s main airport, Dickman resort is a tranquil oasis- perfect start or finish for an amazing journey through the wonderful variety of Sri Lanka! comfortable bed, great bath with shower/garden, lots of amenities and pool outside the view window- this is all nice - but what made our stay “five star” was the staff!! All the guys were genuine about their desire to make our stay comfortable and fun- the breakfast boys were especially good at their job- really the best food and smiles of the trip! Spoiler- the beach is not good in Negombo as compared to others in Sri Lanka
