We checked in on 26th Dec when the hotel was fully booked but the staff didn't neglect any guest and they were so helpful. We had buffet for all 3 meals starting from lunch and even though we booked on discounted rate, they've ensured that there were enough varieties of food and food was delicious. We enjoyed in the pool near our rooms and kids enjoyed later in the bigger pool facing the Negambo lagoon. Room was very big including a tub qnd it was very neat and tidy. Vintage look of rooms were very appealing. All guests followed health guidelines and hotel staff didn't bother guests by forcing them to follow those which was making us so comfort compared to some hotels we visited before. We enjoyed our stay very much and we recommend Arie Lagoon who's looking for a comfortable stay at a reasonable rate.

The Arie Lagoon Hotel could be wonderful but I suspect COVID has taken its toll. Firstly, we were expecting the spa to be open but were told on arrival that it had remained closed since it shut down for the pandemic. It would have been nice to know this prior to booking. Secondly, the hotel advertises an airport shuttle on Booking.com but actually it just orders a local and very expensive taxi. It also claims to be an airport hotel only 30 minutes drive and 6.6km from the airport but the journey is 40 minutes or longer in normal daily traffic and the true driving distance (as opposed to a straight line over the lagoon) is more like 20km. None of these points are show stoppers, it would just be better to know this up front. With hindsight, I should have done my homework on the driving times and distances. The rooms are a bit tired but large and comfortable and reasonably quiet although the area is busy so expect some noise. The swimming pools are perfectly fine but avoid the beach over the road; it was filthy when we visited. The lagoon is pretty but not for swimming. The staff are excellent and helpful and must take credit for working hard. They were catering for a wedding and normal guests when we stayed. If it wasn’t for the excellent staff, I would have rated the hotel lower. The food was OK but not brilliant. Certain items at the dinner buffet such as the soups, salads and desserts were good but many other dishes were poor. Breakfast was just about passable. If the hotel just tried that little bit harder with the quality of the meals it would certainly make up for the tired rooms. In summary, the price point of the Arie Lagoon is wrong. It is just too overpriced with the hotel in its current tired and sub-optimal state. That said, it would not take much to get the place running on full gas again. Arie Lagoon could so easily be returned to a vibrant and luxury hotel; I hope the management have the resources to do this now that the pandemic is easing.

This place is like a unique sanctuary or something you would only see in pictures, the rooms are spacious , the staff is extremely friendly and professional. The area is beautiful, every couple or family gets their own cabin on the ground floor it almost feels like you’re living alone in that beautiful place, the swimming pool area has an amazing view of the lagoon, go here if you are looking for peace of mind and calmness. Shaltih and Saranga treated us so nicely. From the moment we got the welcome drinks and they took us in the electric car to our rooms we knew it was going to be amazing. The ONLY thing I regret is not staying there longer. Also a couple of mosquitos so do take your mosquito repellent cream along. Definitely Definitely recommend. At least spend 2-3 night minimum !
