Great stay, great atmosphere, great staff and all in a special building. Really great. The large rooms also very nice with the family of 4. Only problem we had was with the water leakage in he room, but this comes with old hotels.... and do believe it was a one-off. Highly recommended and great location in town!

This was our first stop in Sri Lanka and it's set a very high bar for the rest of our trip. We found the service to be immaculate - friendly and highly attentive. The hotel is ideally located in the centre of town and is a stunning renovation of a gorgeous colonial building. We initially booked into one of the...

Dear Nicholas H, I am very pleased that your stay and the beginning of your holiday started on a high note and you found our staff to be friendly and attentive. Shopping and exploring the Fort from the Hotel is ideal and can be done in intervals and at a leisurely pace, particularly as the Fort is a fascinating mix...

Love this hotel in the heart of Galle Fort. Warm friendly and attentive staff made our stay so enjoyable. A G&T or two on the terrace is the best spot to watch the activities of Galle fort. Location is brilliant. Guest rooms are comfortable and spotlessly maintained. Look forward to the next stay.

Dear Terri C, Indeed the location is brilliant and the terrace provides a cool sanctuary away from the tropical heat, noise and bustle that makes Galle such a fascinating place. So glad our staff made your stay such an enjoyable occasion and feedback about our comfortable and clean rooms is much appreciated, thank you. A pleasure to have you stay...

Very well located. Rooms are excellent overall but the downstairs bathroom is a little difficult to handle in teh middle of the night. Probably not a very functional solution. This was for the upgraded room Service very good and hotel is well located within the Galle Fort area Meals were very good but there are also may options for good...

Dear djconslt, Thank you so much for your review and especially for mentioning that the rooms were excellent overall and the hotel is well located. The Dutch strategically positioned the property in the middle of their fortifications to provide the best possible security to their spice trade. They also built over 200 smaller dwellings inside the Fort as well. Thank...

Every single thing about this gorgeous hotel-restaurant-Bar spells style and luxury with fantastic service ... We were all greeted at the entrance by a team of very well dressed in white staff and seated in the gorgeous lobby where we sat and drank amazing cocktail at quite reasonable prices considering the opulence .. Extremely impressed and a must to visit...

Dear Candycan053, Thank you so much for your review and for mentioning how much you were impressed by the elegance of our lobby interior. Its minimalist style and subtle blending of old with the new might be the opulence you refer to, or simply a sense of romanticism and tranquility which permeates the hotel. Or a mixture of all of...

My husband and I went to Galle Fort Hotel to just have a peaceful relaxed holiday. We went with no expectations. But when we left we felt it was the most awesome relaxed holiday we had experienced in sometime. David is so passionate about the history of the place and a wonderful host I must say. Dear Barkha13 It was great to receive your review and to read that you had an awesome relaxed holiday staying with us in Galle Fort. Great story about the restoration. Really nice hotel - small, quaint and rich with history. When you go to Galle Fort you are there for the history - why not stay in a 17th century building. The restaurant was also a surprise - excellent dinner. We enjoyed cocktails on the veranda in the balmy evenings. The hotel is very close...

Dear FoodieInAsia, Your review is very much appreciated and you make some valid points and observations. Galle Fort is a world heritage site and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. The "modern" history of Galle starts in 1502, when a small fleet of Portuguese ships were blown off course and ended up in Galle. In...

Dear ImranM78, So glad you enjoyed your stay with us while on business at Galle Fort. Indeed the hotel has a fascinating history but so too does Galle and it is interesting to note that it had been a prominent seaport long before western rule in this country. Many Persians, Arabs, Greeks, Romans, Malays, Indians, and Chinese were doing business...
