We really enjoyed our time here in such a beautiful and historic building. The rooms are spacious with lovely furniture and giant beds. The hotel is in the middle of a longer term refurbishment programme and they are upgrading each room at a time so some facilities are a little more old fashioned than others and they are currently awaiting their drinks licence so you are allowed to bring in your own alcohol free of charges it is a training hotel so there are young, enthusiastic staff trying their best, always welcoming you with big smiles. The pool is very large and at night surrounded by wild peacocks..they are in the process of adding a screen to block of their unsightly neighbour but it didn't bother us. Breakfasts are tailored to your needs and they are happy to prepare anything you need for supper it's 3 kilometres from town but we liked the peace this afforded

Actually, I hardly write reviews anymore, but the Tamarind is worth praising.
A nice, small, (12 room), stylish hideaway 10 TukTuk minutes from the fort, very quiet, you can only hear the birds, the monkeys and the frogs. All rooms at Tamarind are lovingly decorated with dark wooden floors and wooden furniture (the main house is 250 years old). There are covered seats everywhere. Everything is freshly renovated and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. There were few guests, so there was served breakfast and dinner as desired, Western and Asian. We had room 4 with small terrace and views of the jungle and pool. So really recommended if you want to avoid the tourist hustle and bustle of Galle Fort.

A hidden gem , an exquisite colonial home with grand proportions, beautiful furniture and discreet areas to relax in . Staff are well meaning and in abundance , they may not speak much English- but I didn’t even try to communicate in Singhalese. There are only 12 rooms - all are very spacious and decorated with individual mahogany furniture . It’s NOT the Hilton or Radisson … thank goodness…. So don’t expect mini bar and extensive menu . The dinner from the limited menu was delicious , I would like to have seen more local dishes on offer . No wine license - but take your own. A peaceful retreat , very serene , no piped music, and a feeling that you are staying in a friend’s home. There is a resident turtle in the pond , peacocks grace the courtyard in the morning, monkeys can be seen in the jungle behind , a mongoose crossed the drive this morning. I hope no one spoils this little haven . The pool was clean and we had it to ourselves . Thank you Tamarind Hill .

Only customers. The next day it disappeared from Google and Booking. Breakfast not buffet to choose between SriLankan or English. Short and very slow. Dinner included just like breakfast. Old historic building with lack of maintenance. The pool without filtering running. The air conditioning in the room only worked at maximum power, there was less noise to sleep on the plane. Anything but luxurious. Far removed from Galle. Value for money, nefarious.

The staff at Tamarind Hill Hotel is friendly and accommodating, there are some areas of concern. Although the maintenance is generally good, there were issues with the AC in the suite room, making for an uncomfortable night, especially with a toddler. This is also because of April summer.
This property requires maintenance in a lot of areas.

This hotel just might be the most prettiest and most relaxing place I’ve stayed at. But I guess I can say that because I’m partial to the colonial architecture. From the moment we entered, the service was excellent. They adhered to the COVID-19 safety regulations. Our room was sanitized a few hours before we checked in and sealed till our arrival.
Everyone at Tamarind Hill was so courteous and wonderful. We went there for a weekend trip to celebrate my best friend’s birthday and they arranged a delicious complimentary birthday cake to surprise her at dinner. They were so discreet about it that she was definitely surprised!
I must especially mention Sangeeth. He went above and beyond to make our stay special...even telling us little facts about the hotel, making sure our food was always made to our specifications and telling us when & where to find the peacocks.
That’s another thing...while we were there, we kept hearing peacocks and that morning after breakfast, one was right there inside the hotel courtyard just hanging out. Apparently it’s a common thing every morning!
The food was delicious and the chef checked in with us on the very first night itself to get our feedback but all we could do was gush about how good it was. It was ala carte over buffet and I feel it was preferable. The menu was simple but we had enough to choose from (in fact it was hard to choose because everything looked yummy) and every bite we had was flavorful. Breakfast being my favorite meal wherever I go, I must especially recommend their ham & cheese omelet. I’m not usually a fan of rice & curry but I absolutely love the way they made it at Tamarind Hill. They included something delicious called a kara mallum which is made of leaves from a tree grown in their hotel itself. Apparently it has Buddhist historical significance that I wasn’t fully aware of.
The room was spacious and comfortable but the lighting could use some improvement I feel. The bathroom was quite large and it had a fan of its own so it would always be dry which we all definitely appreciated.
Though the hotel is not right on the beach, it’s just a walk away or you could drive to Unawatuna in less that 30 mins.
All in all, we were sad to leave and I could say without a doubt that I look forward to going back there! Thank you so much for having us and making our stay wonderful!!!

A place with colonial architecture of around 200 years old with antiques used during that era was a new experience. The hotel is well maintained and the staff provides an excellent service. Admiral Suite was very spacious to accommodate a family of 4 and nicely layed out with antique furniture to have that feeling of super luxury living in the colonial period with modernization to suit comfortable lodging without loosing the antique value. An excellent location to stay for a very reasonable price.

A recent visit to Tamarind Hill was an absolute pleasure. The limited number of rooms ensured a warm and personal service with excellent meals which were presented smoothly, without a rigid meal time. The pool was clean and provided a wonderful experience. Rooms are huge and elegant. The highlight of it all was the fabulous treatment the employees gave us, which was lovely and efficient. Tamarind Hills was truly amazing, pleasant experience is more than my expectations and has gained me as a loyal customer.
