It has been over five months since I have been following up with the owners, asking them to refund the money they owe me. They charged me double (I have proof!) and are refusing to refund the excess to me. When they charged me double, I got an email assurance from Charles that he would refund the excess to me. But the money has still not come back to me. At first, the owners would respond to our reviews on google, etc. alleging that we were bad guests, until I pointed out that not only were we not, it also does not justify them withholding payment due to us. Once they realized that their opinion of a guest does not authorize them to charge the guest double, their strategy has changed - now there is only silence! We are not based in SL and hence, they are taking advantage of the fact that we cannot physically go there and demand the money they rightly owe to us. I assume that most of their guests are foreigners. So please note - be careful of this hotel and their attitude. It was a 4 night stay so obviously I am talking of a fairly high amount. Our experience there was terrible and I am really surprised and wondering how this place is getting glowing reviews. But the main purpose of this review is to highlight the fact that the owners have no honesty. They have cheated me out of my money and I demand my money back. Charles/ Maneyika, I will not give up. We stayed at Le Jardin Du Fort at the end of December 2019. Given that it was a last minute booking, the online transfer we made hadn’t been received by the hotel at the time of check out. We were keen to have them receive it and kept following up. During my stay, I also emailed them the SWIFT instructions received from my bank setting out the details of their beneficiary account and which specifically set out that the amount had left my bank account. However, Charles emailed me and told me that he hadn’t received the online transfer and that I have to pay in cash and that he would refund the online transfer when he received it. At the time of check out, Maneyika was extremely rude and also insisted that we pay up, failing which the hotel will call the police. Note that we were in the hotel with two little kids and we were the ones constantly following up and checking if the money had reached them and so the rudeness was absolutely uncalled for. Maneyika’s attitude was shocking and we were left with no choice but to pay AGAIN in cash. When we asked for the receipt of payment, the staff refused to give it to us. They eventually did since we refused to leave without that. Ever since we left the hotel, we have been constantly following up with Charles and Maneyika for a refund (we subsequently got proof that the online transfer has been received by them - incidentally, they received it on the SAME day as my check out, when they insisted I pay again in cash!!!). There has however been NO response from them despite sending multiple emails to them asking them to refund the extra we paid. Note that this isn’t a small amount. They owe us USD 630. I am shocked that they are trying to get away with cheating even though I have proof that I have made payment twice - through an online transfer and also by way of cash at the time of check out. Charles/ Maneyika - can you please explain why you have neither responded to my emails nor refunded the money to me yet? Request you to address the issue at hand instead of try to take attention away from this issue by blaming us, saying we were bad guests, etc. in your response which, not only do I dispute, but even if, for argument’s sake, it were true, it doesn’t not justify you charging me DOUBLE. Be rest assured that I am not going to let go of my refund and I will not give up till it’s back in my account. So I request you to do the right thing and return the money (USD 630) you have taken from us.…
Small boutique hotel in the middle of the Fort of Galle, very quiet, comfortable beautiful colonial-style rooms. All very nice, courteous and welcoming staff. Delicious homemade bread served for breakfast.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the property and service met all our expectations, indeed exceeded them. This hotel is superbly decorated and furnished, is highly comfortable and is staffed by a team that pay attention to detail and serve with genuine warmth and a pleasure in what they do. Loved the room, loved the quality, the location and the general ambience. In short, faultless. We’ll be back - one day.
