Out of pure love for Shangrilanka Villa, Bentota, we returned for another peaceful, blissful holiday in July. Yes there's alot of negative news about Sri Lanka scaring tourists off over the past number of months, but the country desperately needs tourists. We went there purely to switch off from tge rest of the world, we hired bicycles to get around. We've already travelled around Sri Lanka a couple of times so we were happy to cycle the mains streets & back streets of Bentota. As soon as we can, we will return there & I hope the tourists industry picks up for the sake of the people & country. We were happy enough to pretty much have the place to ourselves though 😉
This is a really wonderful place to relax and unwind. We just loved the garden with its lush planting and the pool is beautifully situated. Our room was so spacious and comfortable and the whole atmosphere is very calming. We had superb massages from Niroshe Kumari in a separate building surrounded by water-a really lovely experience indeed. The food was delicious and our hosts Karen and Rohan were very helpful.
Rohan, Karen and the staff made our stay at Shangri-Lanka Villa one that we will not forget & we will definitely come back again. We enjoyed days of sitting by the pool, swimming, having a massage (or 3), admiring the wonderful gardens, sitting on the balcony over looking the neighbouring jungle & watching the vast variety of wildlife at the villa. We ventured out to the beautiful beach a number of times, which is about a 15 mins walk from the villa. We witnessed even more wildlife and passed many friendly locals when we were out. Rohan was on hand to arrange excursions for us & advise us of what was achievable in the time frame we were there. Our tour driver Samantha gave us interesting information about Sri Lanka, was a very safe driver & was such a delightful gentleman. The food was on point at all times - breakfast, lunch and dinner. The garden was being regularly maintained which gave the villa an amazing private sanctuary feel. The serving staff kept our room looking fresh every day & made us feel incredibly well looked after. They were all such lovely and hard working gentlemen. Karen has been so helpful with her local knowledge and gave us some useful insights to help us start planning our return trip to Sri Lanka. Shangri-Lanka Villa ticked all our boxes for a restful recharge in a country that has so much to offer - whether you’re looking for seeing lots of sights, or just relaxing to recharge. We look forward to our return & seeing Rohan, Karen and the team again in the future.…
With our two children (6. years) we had a wonderful stay. This oasis of calm gave us a great end to our round trip in Sri Lanka. The hosts and staff were extremely nice. The food great and the rooms spacious and tastefully decorated.
From the moment we entered the gates of Shangri Lanka, we experienced a sense of peace and wellbeing. It is like a little Oasis of beauty, within about a ten minute walk to a lovely unspoiled beach. The garden was beautiful with an abundance of wildlife and so much attention had been given to detail. Watching the gardener at work, you could see that he took immense pride and enjoyment in what he did. The pool is spotlessly clean and is without doubt the nicest pool that we had ever swam in, just the perfect temperature for a swimming pool in the tropics. The rooms are spacious and very clean, with hot running water and regular towel and bedding changes. Karen and Rohan are great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Karen was informative and helpful regarding the booking and all emails were responded to promptly. Rohan is Sri Lankan, so has great knowledge of the country and local area. The service we received during our stay was excellent and all the staff had big smiles and were happy to help. They had an excellent massage lady, who spoke very good English and gave without a doubt the best massage we had in Sri Lanka. Airport transfers can be organised on request in clean, air-conditioned cars with responsible and safe drivers. The villa has a lovely small restaurant soley for guests and are flexible very about meal times. The menu is varied and extremely good value for money, serving high quality food. You can also choose the option of eating on your balcony if you wish. The villa also has two lovely friendly dogs on the property, but they do not beg for food or jump up at the tables, although sometimes they may come and sit near by. If you do not wish for the dogs to be near you while you eat, the staff will usher them away, but we in no way found them intrusive, in fact we thought they added to the character of the place. If you want a nice quiet break away in a beautiful boutique style hotel, this is one that we would recommend.…
Spacious, well appointed bungalows and pool, set in beautiful gardens with an abundance of plants and wildlife. Central 'lodge' restaurant offers well cooked food at reasonable prices. You can enjoy breakfast on your own terrace while watching the peacocks strut their stuff! An ideal place to relax and unwind in a lively, peaceful setting. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would recommend.
My husband and I stayed here for just over 2 weeks we had a wonderful relaxing time in a beautiful setting Karen and Rohan and their staff made us so welcome, nothing was too much trouble and the food was fabulous Rooms clean and comfortable a home from home in the sun we shall return We wish them well Martin & Chrissie Rawlings
This Villa is based in a quiet location, close to Bentota, and the sea, very clean, good bedrooms, great hospitality....happy staff. Good food well repaired. A great place to stay, nice swimming pool....noticeable wildlife. Knowledgeable and caring owners. Our 4th visit.
An amazing place of tranquility. Beautiful spacious villas, Karen and Rohan run a fantastic place and the staff are so pleasant helpful and obliging We started our holiday there and ended it there and all in between activities were organised by Karen and Rohan who are experienced at getting all the details perfectly to your liking Best beach in Sri Lanka just a very short distance away with some nice beach bars to lunch at. Will definitely return for a 4th time
Returning for the fourth time in six years, Shangri Lanka Villa did not disappoint. Located on De Alwis Road, it is 15 minutes walk to Warahena Beach, with marvellous surf, deserted beaches and laid back beach bars. Karen and Rohan provide a tranquil base, pool and sunbeds surrounded by a verdant garden resident auyervedic masseuse, attentive staff, lovely breakfasts and beautifully cooked dinners. Easy access not only to Bentota, Aluthgama but also Lunaganga and Brief Gardens; as well as trips to Galle and Colombo. Karen and Rohan are happy to assist in arranging trips around the island. Two months after we arrived, we left, sorry to leave, and wishing it could have been longer.
