**Holiday in August 2024**
We had a wonderful time here. The hotel is located on a beautiful beach, and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive! The buffet offers a wide variety of delicious dishes. We would especially like to highlight the team: Kelum, Dilip, Malan, and particularly Mr. Tharaka, who made our stay unforgettable.

I stayed in the suite room with spa tub and it was nice. I was comfortable on the couch and the bed. Tv channels are only a few but i watched nature and that was enough. Patio was nice but the best past was that the resort is located on the beach and you can enjoy swimming. First time in the ocean for me in Sri Lanka and had some waves but watched the beautiful sunset while swimming with some other guests, it was amazing. Dinner buffet was nice and i could find something unique. Both CDP Sandaruwan& Roshan took care of me and made me a beautiful shrimp plate showcasing their talents. Was a huge surprise, very nice job guys. I found beef with Kang Kung and also a nice cold pumpkin salad and the lemon grass chicken soup was nice. Outside live fish cooking station was cooked perfectly. I really appreciate the GM and Assitant GM checking and making sure everything was perfect. Breakfast was nice with an omelet station and local fresh juices. I only ate a small breakfast but it was nice. I will be back for sure and even i only stayed one night i wanted to extend my stay.

We have visited the Panandus Beach several times in recent years but sadly we need to report that in our view standards previous experienced have fallen. We would start by saying the Hotel is in such a wonderful location, the staff are all lovely, all rooms face the sea and the sound of waves crashing in is wonderful; and we have had several very good holidays there in the past.
This year things like the number of broken sun beds/damaged cushions are considerable, there are broken wooded floor gratings around the pool have rotted away which are dangerous, dead trees have not been removed (a large part of one crashed down during our stay) and we had a feeling of a lack of maintenance on behalf of the Management.
The guest nationalities at the hotel for a large part of our stay were predominantly Ukrainian, and many of these were young people who just wanted to have a good holiday: but the sometimes loud music playing, the numerous alcohol bottles/cans from the local cheaper drinks stores were scattered around the pool area every morning, and there was no action to moderate this behaviour by any of the staff who were on duty nearly all the time.
The food in the hotel has also reduced in standard with many of the nicer meals not provided this year, and most of the guest there during our stay had very health appetites indeed so if you were late for dinner dishes were not sometimes replenished – all gone as we were told. There is a strange strategy that the bar often serves you drinks in plastic glasses in the bar area (away from the pool) and glass glasses around the beach/pool?
The Pandanus has such wonderful potential so in our view with a little effort and management the hotel could easily be turned back to the lovely 4 Star hotel we all look forward to returning to; and perhaps with a different marketing strategy attract a more diverse mix of guest nationalities. Let’s hope this review moves things forward.

Good Morning & a Good Day to you, Dear Valued guest, First of all let us wish you and your family a proeperous and a happy new year with wealth & Good Health, as you are regular to Pandanus Beach reosrty & SPA we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your comments to develope the Standards and we would like to answer your comments with the difficulties what we had during the past few months before we started the season in October 2019. The sunbeds were kept their for repair as we couldnt use many of them due to the situation of the country after easter sunday, as the trun over of the guest were very low, regarding the trees they were coconut trees which were taken off due to the bad wheather and we cant through them away as they are very valuble and we kept them from seasoning and we will use them when it is ready for the carpenter,As we are in the Hospitality field we must cater for all nationalities and we do the clearence of empty bottles and Glasses when ever the Guest leaves near the sunbeds and on many occassions the Guest says please do not remove as they have not finished the Consumption, with regard to the food we have the same staff who is always with us and so many very good comments for food cleanliness and service has appiered in the Trip Adviser if yoiu could just go through and Sir at the Bar we never serve Drinks in plastic Glasses as for not even in the Hotel as well, may be sometimes the Guest from the Rooms could use this type of Glasses as they could purchase them from outside. We the Mangement will look in to all your positive comments very closely and have breifings with the Staff and sort out the Matters. This is your second home and please do visit us again and we the mangement & the staff would like to thank you for your visit and we assure you of our best attention and services at all times. with kind regards. Checked in Yesterday( 27 Feb 2021), worst experience ever. 🤐Doesn't worth the price. Weekend Buffet is very basic comparing to other 4* Hotels offering much lower prices these days.Booked 2 deluxe rooms for Rs. 18k for double & 22k for triple. We arrived at the hotel at 4pm where the check-in time is 2pm and the rooms weren't ready and took another 40 mins to prepare the rooms. 🤐👎. After a while we had to shift to another room due to a power failure in the room. One water bottle they've given to us, has already been used by Rats 🐀. Room balcony is with full of dust. Although The staff is very friendly and the Deluxe rooms are very spacious. But overall experience is very disappointing and Total waste of our money and our time.

- Long, very little frequented beach in front of the hotel.
- The hotel is a long building, where every room has a balcony and a sea view at the front.
- The rooms are very old, but clean.
-
- Because the rooms are very old, some things are simply broken (e.g.: individual power sockets, hair dryer)
- The "all-inclusive" concept is a nap: When booking the all-inclusive package, only a few drinks are included (e.g.: only regular Coke, while Coke Zero and Light have to be paid for separately; only crumbly coffee from a Nespresso bag is included, real coffee has to be paid for separately).
- The staff speak very bad English. As soon as it goes beyond the general phrases "How are you" "where are you from", the staff just giggle and have not understood a word and therefore cannot help.
- The staff are largely unhelpful. Examples:
- "Snack time" is until 5 p.m. I came back from the city shortly after 5 p.m. and wanted a snack. I was forbidden to do that, even though the snacks were still on the plates.
- I wanted to get a towel by the pool. I was told that all the towels were in the washing machine. So bad luck if you've just come out of the water. Nobody felt obliged to offer me another towel.
- When I got a towel, it had two huge brown stains. I only noticed this when I spread it out on the lounger. After I pointed this out to a member of staff, he simply turned the towel over and presented me with this as the solution to the problem.
- There are always 4-5 members of staff at the pool, but they usually stand around together and chat. You have to move loungers, mattresses, etc. yourself.
- The food is divided into an intercontinental/western buffet and a buffet with food from Sri Lanka. I can't judge the buffet with food from Sri Lanka, as it was far too spicy for me (and I think many people felt the same). The buffet with western food was unloving, sometimes badly cooked (e.g. noodles still hard, always the same food (and I was only there six nights)) and with a lot of meat (stupid if you eat vegetarian, which is not uncommon these days). For snacks in the morning and afternoon, there is toast/sandwich with cheese/meat/fish (mostly non-vegetarian) and biscuits from a packet, which you can also get in any supermarket there.
- The meal times are very restrictive: breakfast from 7:30-9:30, lunch from 12:30-14:30 and dinner from 19:30-21:30. If you have a different daily routine due to the time difference or would like to have dinner earlier, that's just not possible.
- A lot of things are very unprofessional and poorly thought out (e.g. in the gym there are only very small water glasses (made of glass!), so you can't drink water while you're exercising on the machines, because nobody puts a water glass on a wobbly treadmill and drinks my running from it (there's a reason for sports bottles). On the other hand, there is a member of staff in the gym the whole time who annoys you with unsolicited tips in a few bits of English and watches you while you train (I was mostly alone).

It took about 3 hours to get from the airport to the hotel. We arrived at 17:00, gave our documents to the reception and waited for about 20 minutes. The hotel is undergoing renovation work, the ceilings are being whitewashed, the walls are being painted, there are stepladders everywhere, you have to crawl through them in a bent form.
The room was given on the first floor, nothing special, one large bed, a sofa, a wardrobe with a couple of hangers, I am glad that there is both cold and hot water in the shower. They provide shampoo, shower gel and soap, but not every day. They don't consider it necessary to bring toilet paper. Towels are collected in the morning and then brought only in the evening. If you want to wash yourself at lunch, you will walk around wet.
Beach: always waves, impossible to swim. We go to the rocks to the left, where they are not so strong, but there is foam there which is not very pleasant to swim in.
We weren't very lucky with the weather. It rains every evening. Out of 9 days, 4 days there was no sun during the day and it also rained.
Food: we took breakfast and dinner. For breakfast, eggs, sausages, vegetables, sometimes meat, but it is tough and not tasty. Fruits include pineapple, papaya and watermelon. Tea, coffee and a couple of types of juice. For dinner there were potatoes, rice, a meat dish (chicken or beef, but that’s the islands), and a couple of times they served seafood with sauce. Also fruits and sweets.
It is very annoying that local residents pester you with excursions, ask for your phone number, if you want to take a photo, and they stand next to you and stare intently. You lie on a sunbed, they stand opposite you and also stand and watch. They offer to buy paintings or spices...
There are a lot of Germans in the hotel. We were playing music at sea and they came up to us and asked us to turn it off. Because they read and we disturb them. In the evening at the bar it’s the same story. They come and say that they go to bed at 9 pm, and here we wake them up.
What I didn’t like most was the attitude of hotel workers towards vacationers. When we bought beer from them, they were all smiling, talking in Russian, and as soon as they arrived with alcohol bought from a nearby cafe, they told us that we had to pay for it or go drink in our room. Our request to return our money for the remaining days of rest (to change the hotel) was also ignored.
In general the location of the hotel is terrible. Everything is too far to go on an excursion. For example, the Ella tour: it’s a 4-hour drive to the Ravana waterfall, 2.5 hours to the 9-arch bridge.
If I go to Sri Lanka again, I definitely won’t go to this hotel.

Pandanus Beach Resort was an unexpected gem on our Sri Lanka trip. Set in a fantastic location just 10 minutes from Bentota Beach, it offers a more secluded and exclusive experience on its adjacent beach, away from the busier tourist areas. The sea-facing rooms boast breathtaking ocean views, perfect for capturing stunning sunsets that will stay with you long after your visit. You can also soak in the sunset from the resort’s beautiful pool, which sits right off the beach, blending seamlessly with the ocean horizon.
The hospitality at Pandanus is exceptional, with a friendly and attentive team at the reception who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. For those looking for an extra touch of luxury, some rooms feature private jacuzzis. The breakfast spread is extensive and varied, with the staff putting in tremendous effort to ensure we felt right at home.
I found Pandanus a more appealing choice than staying directly in Bentota, as it offers a peaceful, serene atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxation. If you plan to visit Bentota frequently, I’d suggest renting a scooter for easy access or taking a tuk-tuk, which costs around 400 LKR. The beach itself is ideal for morning jogs and, during low tide, can be safe for swimming.
In short, Pandanus Beach Resort offers great hospitality, unforgettable views, and a tranquil ambiance, making it a standout choice. Excellent management from breakfast service to front desk—highly recommended for a restful and scenic getaway.

We are here in the monsoon season. The sea is to rough to swim. However, you can get over it! We have had rain over night and a couple of 15 min down pours. But it's to warm to worry. Unlike some Asian tourist hot spots, Sri Lanka is clean, stunningly beautiful and they drive on the left! The people are welcoming and warm.
We travelled with Mercury again as we think we have found some of the loveliest boutique hotels around the Indian ocean with them. So we are adding another......Pandanus beach resort and spa.
I am writing this while eating lunch of prawns, pork, bbq chicken and salad. Isuru and Deshan taking care of us. As a small hotel, quieter at this time of year, the buffet is smaller to reduce waste which is good to see. The chef will accommodate whatever you need and the choice of veg and fruit is great. FYI wine is extra but the beer and local spirits mean you don't miss it. (wine is a little expensive in Sri Lanka generally).
The location is literally on the beach and the sound of breaking waves your constant backdrop. Our room is stunning and there is a 40m pool that is warmed by the sun.
So if the idea of Asia intimidates you a little, come here first. I simple can't say enough good things about this beautiful hotel. Check out the pics. I am not exaggerating!
Even the guys selling tours on the beach are polite and no issue. They aren't pushy and probs have a great prices?

We had the good fortune to spend 3 weeks at this idyllic resort. Cannot fault the hotel and its impressive staff in their efforts to make your holiday perfect. We had a deluxe room in the main block which was a very spacious and well equipped with a flat screen satellite TV, air conditioning, fridge, seating area, kettle (tea bags, coffee, sugar, water and coffee mate resupplied daily), safe. The bathroom is again a very good size with a whirlpool bath, separate W/C and walk in shower areas with towels changed daily. There are bath robes and shampoos etc which are again resupplied as necessary. The room has plenty of storage and a massive balcony and king size comfy bed. Also of note to UK travellers is that our 3 pin plugs work in these rooms so no need for any adaptors.
The buffet restaurant was excellent and we were satisfied with every meal across our stay which we appreciate must be difficult for the hotel to cater for some many different nationalities but nevertheless they achieved this admirably.
There is a pool which has easy access steps at either end and is 4ft deep throughout and a beautiful temperature. There are plenty of sunbeds and again the staff will always locate you a bed and move it to suit your preference. The pool bar is well stocked and opens from 10am till 5pm where upon the main bar opens. There is a set of toilets to use behind pool bar with 2 showers in each. We never really spent much time downstairs after dinner so can't really comment on the entertainment but heard good reports especially the fire eating act.
All in all we loved it and will be returning next year, only slight negative is they don't have have diet drinks on the all inclusive which as a diabetic is not ideal but you can get them from the bigger supermarkets in town.
