Beautiful garden and country house. A must stopover if you are traveling between Galle and Colombo. Not easy to access - which means you probably need to have a driver to get you here. The "design" of the gardens and views are quite interesting, but I found interior design of the garden house and some other rooms to be very... More

Beautifully landscaped and self sufficient garden of Geoffrey Bawa who has designed some of the best hotels in Sri Lanka. His home known as Lunuganga which means salty river in Sinhalese, the garden consists of an abundance of local trees including the gigantic Mahogany, Teak, Ebony and various other trees. The old cow shed and the chicken hutch are still... More

We rang a bell at a large gate and waited to be let in. It was the beginning of what was to be an amazing experience. Our accommodation was The Glass Room, The Guest Room Suite and The Gate House. All three were absolutely delightful and housed antiques and treasures. We appreciated the little extras like torches, cool boxes for... More

Don't discount this National Trust historic ruins site as a place to eat, sleep and enjoy the beauty of the lakes and rolling grasslands. It is really worth the U$D 230 we spent to sleep in the studio packed with eclectic contemporary art; including sculptures, paintings and architectural wonder. The fee included dinner and breakfast; making it VERY affordable in... More

We have just stayed 2 nights at Lunuganga and it was among our favorite in Sri Lanka despite we stayed also in Bentota in another lovely Bawa property this one is very unique. It should not be considered as a hotel but as a secret to enjoy for those travelers looking for a a short or longer retreat and those... More

This place has a soul, which is miraculously alive thanks to two formers students of Geoffrey Bawa, Michael and Asha. Both are architects, both are knowledgeable about... More

Lovely place, felt like being transferred back to Britain with a tropical twist. Lovely and informative guide. Amazing staff. Hotel rooms looked lovely, sadly no children policy so we could not stay. You can book yourself for lunch before visiting. Booking is essential as it will be cooked just for you. Don't miss if interested in design and architecture.

The country home of G Bawa - with the jungle trying its best to reclaim and the conservators to repel with dignity - the home and gardens are being preserved as best they can be. While the employees would like to make you welcome it appears they aren't entirely sure how to achieve same. For Australians the various paintings and... More

Make this a 'must do' on your itinerary! Superlatives are inadequate to describe this place. This is the famed Geoffrey Bawa's secuded estate where he spent most of his life, the architecture is stunning. There are few straight lines in the gardens where everything works harmoniously with the surroundings. The gardens flow around the buildings which are inconspicuously blended in... More
