It has been a wonderful experience from start to end. I have been surround by lovely, kind people, Amal Villa offers top service and everything with the very special personal touch! Heaven!

Amal Villa is a small villa retreat set within beautiful cared-for gardens and a large pool. The breakfast is made freshly and according to you wishes. agasin, its this personal touch, as if you have hired a private chef!!!

There is no pressure, no stress and the tasty breakfast and dinner is lovingly presented.

I loved the dinner at the beach. I mean, where can you get this luxury of having your table set up at the beach and in private atmosphere?

I stayed with friends and we had the best time ever. During my stay, I also made us of the Ayurveda treatment offered next door! 10 out of 10 rating. I stayed for 8 days and I returned to my sometimes high-pressure job completely recovered, full of energy and HAPPY. Yes, I will be back next year and I schedule my stay at Amal villa as a yearly must do. My newly regained energy is priceless!

Amal is the owner and he takes care of all the details. Ask him for advice and suggestion. He will organise day trips and longer excursions too.

We have been here so many times and it always feels like coming home: the people, the food, the stunning Villa standing on the nature and the delicious sunset dinners at the beach make this place unique. Let the owner and the crew take if you, they know what they are doing and they do it with a smile. We will come back again and again, a jewel in the west coast: don’t miss it!

The villa backs onto open countryside and the gardens are amazing. There are mature trees and shrubs and the pool is large with plenty of seating and shade. We saw Kingfishers, squirrels, and other native animals. The rooms are cool and spacious and some have terraces or balconies. They are clean and beautifully presented. An amazing breakfast is served on your terrace or balcony and if you don’t have one the guys serve it in the garden in a lovely area for you. Lunch and dinner is available across the road at the restaurant next to the hotel. The menu is new and has local, Indian, Seafood and European dishes. We ate there on 3 occasions and the service and food was great. The staff in the garden and kitchen are brilliant. They keep everything clean and tidy and the presentation of breakfast is amazing. Thank you to all at Amal villa for an amazing stay.

There are Moments where you can't find the right words to describe the beauty of a place and the kindness of its people. We enjoyed so many magical moments at Amal Villa Ayurvedic Center & Spa, that we don't know where to start. So far we have explored several places for Ayurvedic Treatments in India and Sri Lanka, but the professional and warmhearted Therapists of Dr. Nalaka have made our Ayurveda cure unforgettable, Panchakarma at it's best. Also not to forget the wonderful service around the Villa and Garden from Namal & Ranga, they treated us like Queens, thank you so much for all these magical moments. We will come back with a big smile and the suitcase full of Swiss chocolate!

Great Food and service with a smile. Much more affordable than other places and it a a scenic calm to it. Loved the fish and Shrimps were fresh. The chef knows what he is doing😁 and deserves a compliment. Wish them the best for future. Hope to be back soon

We’ve been holidaying in the Amal Villa for many years - I love its unchanging nature. It is living in the lap of luxury with great rooms, fantastic service, stunning daily breakfast and total relaxation.
We are already booked for 2035 to leave our February weather behind us.

We returned to Amal Villa for the 5th or 6th time. We visit SL every July and would not stay anywhere else on the west coast. The service is excellent. It is led by the excellent, multi- lingual Chandra who appears before problems arise! Please don't retire for a few years. The breakfasts are a feast and they will provide a Sri Lankan breakfast if required. Nalaka, Namal and Ragita were on hand all day and the gardener, Ranga, slid the mosquito burners under your seat without being noticed.
The restaurant is the best in the Bentota/Aluthgama area so gets busy but the hotel will reserve a table for you. We will be there again in July!

Amal Villa was the only place we stayed in Sri Lanka so maybe if we'd stayed at other places that were not so nice I would have appreciated it more. As it is, I can only judge it based on its own accord. Below is a list of positives and negatives of Amal Villa.

Positives
* The pool is beautiful, it is by far the best part of the property.
* The grounds are also very nice and well taken care of.
* The beach is very pretty, clean, and there were always beach chairs available. Also, there is a nice waiter to bring you food and drinks on the beach.
* The restaurant is attractive, clean, and staffed by attentive waiters. The food for the most part was good, the king prawns were very good and the best dish we had.
* The balcony of Villa #4 is large and a great place to have breakfast, read, and relax.

Negatives
* The room itself in #4 is quite unimpressive, it is dark and not very inviting.
* Another issue with this particular room is the road noise. Villa #4 is literally steps to the highway. The same busy highway you must cross to get to the restaurant or beach. The noise makes it difficult to sleep and we resorted to playing white noise on the cell phone to try to drown it out.
* The bed is very hard and the pillows old and lumpy which also made for a difficult night's sleep.
* The wifi is spotty and we had to ask multiple times to reset the router.
* The TV had three channels, one in German. It was not that big of a deal, but if you are only going to offer three channels, why have a TV at all.
* We had half-board which included breakfast and dinner, however much of the fresh seafood (including the prawns) were an up charge. This was never told to us when booking.
* The breakfast included was not from the restaurant, but rather prepared by the guys that cleaned the rooms. While it was fine, it was the exact same thing everyday - fruit, toast, and eggs. There was never an option to order anything else and it got old after 4 or 5 days.
* Water was not included in the half board and, since there are no shops within walking distance, you are forced to pay for small waters at the villa. We were staying 9 days with 2 kids so this quickly got old. The solution was to take a tuktuk to the store where you could buy 5 liters of water for water the villa charged for 750ml.
* There was no mini fridge in the room, however, Amal did get us one when we requested.
* Upon arrival we where picked up in a nice, new van, but when it came time to go to the airport we were picked up by a much older, less comfortable van. I thought this was tacky.

Again, I am not basing my review on other accommodations in Sri Lanka, but rather on travels throughout Asia. Based on the prices of Amal Villa, I expected a bit more. This is the only place I have stayed that didn't offer basic toiletries like shampoo and soap. Also, even though Amal is always around the property, when we arrived he was not there to welcome us. To me it is the little things in hospitality that make all the difference.

Easy booking and transfer process, excellent contact via email with owners. The staff at Amal couldn't do enough for us and it felt like a big family, everyone was so friendly and easy going without being over-baring or intrusive. We stayed in the larger 'deluxe' apartment, the extra was well worth it, spacious light rooms nicely furnished with all our needs well catered for...AND enough hangers to hang all of my partners clothes...which is a real rarity (she doesn't travel light).

The AC was quiet and bathroom had a large shower with plentiful hot water.

Each morning we had breakfast looking out over the infinity pool and paddy fields as chipmunks played in the palms! lovely selection of fruit, juice drinks, eggs and toast.

The beach was just across the road (past the best restaurant in Bentota - Amal Restaurant) beautiful for long walks! when the weather wasn't so good we walked into Bentota village and the local town...although the locals thought we were mad walking...it really wasn't far to interesting local cultural sites and temples.

We also used Amal Villa's preferred driver for an excellent day trip along the coast road to Galle's Dutch Fort. We also visited turtle sanctuaries, a Sri Lanka mask museum, moon stone mine on the trip. The driver was extremely knowledgable and also talked to us about the devastation caused by the tsunami in 2004.

We decided to change our stay dates due to adverse weather and the owners understood totally, allowing us to change our stay and helping us by organising transport to colombo.

We will be back, lovely place, great stay.

We chose Amal Villa on the recommendation of the reviews, which to date are very accurate. It is set in beautiful grounds, which are well attended on a daily basis. The pool area is absolutely lovely and as it is used by a maximum of 14 people from the 7 rooms at the Villa, it is often empty and you find that you have it to yourself. The staff at the Villa are charming and love to be helpful and please you, including the evening watch man, who assisted us on the main road when we were going for our evening meal. The Villa appears only to operate on a half - board basis and you take evening meals at the sister hotel, Amal Beach Hotel just across the road - though the restaurant is very close to the railway line, which is entertaining, if a little loud! Breakfasts are lovely, a fruit platter, followed by curd/honey and eggs in any style - we normally took at least an hour over breakfast as they deserve not to be rushed affairs. We also tried the Sri Lankan breakfasts with 'Hoppas and curry' which were also lovely. During our stay we had two rooms - no 6 upstairs first and later no 2 on the ground floor which we much preferred because it was so light and airy. All rooms look beautifully furnished, as is the whole villa complex. Despite the usual hustle and bustle of Sri Lankan life and the noise of the main Bentota / Galle road just outside the Villa, there is an air of peace to the place which we thoroughly enjoyed. We also had some wonderful Ayurveda massage treatments at the spa. Overall Amal Villa comes with our highest recommendation and we'd like to return sometime.
